I've never been that far up in Queensland (past Brisbane) and was just wondering if anyone can tell me much about the Sunshine Coast, in particular, Noosa. We were recommended to Noosa Blue Resort, which looks wonderful.

One main question I wanted to ask is if it's really expensive to eat there? Also, is there many activities to do there?

Thanks gals smile.gif

Noosa isn't an incredibly cheap area - but it isn't over the top either.

I know a few years back (don't know if it is still true) Noosa had the most restaurants per capita in Australia!
So you certainly won't be short of choice for places to eat!

In terms of things to do, you have Fraser Island, Steve Irwin's zoo!, Sunshine Coast hinterland, Big pineapple, Ginger factory tongue.gif

Obviously you have the beaches and restaurants too! smile.gif

Thanks for all the info ... I've been to Fraser Island, but when I was about 12 years old so I'd love to go back there, remember it being GORGEOUS! I didn't realise it was close to Noosa, how close is it exactly? Ooooooh COOL, the Australian Zoo, I'd love to go there also! biggrin.gif

I'm sure like everywhere though there will be cheaper places to eat. Just like here in Melbourne, you have your expensive places and then your cheaper places ... it just depends on where you go.

I got quoted about $1,900 for 5 nights at the Noosa Blue with airfares and transfers (no food) ... does this sound ok or do you think I could get a lot further for this amount?

Noosa is gorgeous! We're in Brisbane and are going there for our honeymoon.

If you're going to Noosa then your first stop would have to be the national park. It is just beautiful with plenty of beaches to stop and swim at.

There are plenty of 3 and 4 star apartments on Hastings St to stay in. There are also heaps of restaurants and shops, too.

There are plenty of things to do on the Sunshine Coast so maybe hiring a car would definitely be a good idea.

OMG I'm losing the plot. First we wanted The Whitsundays, then Sunshine Coast, then Fiji, then Vanuatu, then Thailand, then Sunshine Coast again ... and now I'm thinking AGAIN of Thailand or maybe even Bali, I can't make up my damn mind, ha !!! laugh.gif

Reason why I'm so confused is cause I want to get the BEST package, something with the best value for money seeing as we are planning a wedding and building a house all at once.

Got quoted $950pp for 5 nights at Noosa, but from what I've been seeing I could go to Bali or Thailand for a lot longer than that!

LOL, you people must think I'm crazy changing my mind all the time, but I think now I'd rather spend the money on going overseas instead of staying in Australia. This time I better book something before I can change my mind again, lol!

Natalie,

where are your airfares from??

I am just on my QLD quoting machine thingy! tongue.gif

I am getting a price of $1145 for the accom for 5 nights, with breakfast daily, sparkling wine on arrival and a one hour massage per person at Noosa Blue.
Transfers aren't expensive to add onto that... just wondering where the flights are from the see if that is a good deal...

If you are thinking a budget of around $1000pp, I wouldn't look at going to Thailand or Bali for that, as even though you can get there for that price, you would be staying in 2 star accomodation - not nice for a honeymoon!

Noosa Blue is 4.5 star, so even though you think you could go somewhere overseas for the same price - would it be the same quality??
Just something to help you decide (I hope!! tongue.gif Hope I didn't confuse you more!)

Thanks for the advice!

Those prices are quoted with Virgin Blue airfares.

I'm waiting on a call back from the travel agent on prices for 4 star accomodation in Bali, she seems to think it won't go too far over $1,000pp ... have to wait and see. There is no way I would trust 2 star accomodation in a place like Bali or Thailand!

noosa is pretty exxy - definitely high-level tourist zone...

the sunshine coast though, is gorgeous. if you want something cheaper for a little longer, consider going 1/2 an hour north or south of noosa - mooloolaba etc. they are less 'known', so a bit cheaper, still have great beaches, the restaurants are cheaper, and you can still drive to the mountains, national parkes etc.

i'm actually going to the sunshine coast hinterland for my mini-honeymoon (we're from brissy though), and staying at a gorgeous B&B. it's pretty expensive, but SOOO worth it (self contained cabins in rainforest). we went there last year in winter and it was gorgeous.

Hey sweety

I keep popping up in your posts !! tongue.gif

I live on the Sunny Coast and yes noosa is beautiful but can be very exxxxpensive depending on where you stay and dine etc ....

The sunshine coast is not to spread out im meaning that in the aspect from mooloolaba to noosa its only approx 30 min drive so you could even stay down mooloolaba and travel to noosa etc the coast has a lot to do and see in way of attractions ie aust zoo, hinterand ie maleny montville which are beautiful

visit this site it will tell you more about what you want to know

sunshine coast

Hi Nat,

I'm going to Bali for our honeymoon and we are going for 11 nights and it is cost us $3300 at a 5 star hotel, you will be able to find something in Bali for the price range that you are looking for. We stayed at 4 star place in Phuket and it was beautiful and really cheap aswell. We paid $3000 for 14 nights including 3 nights in Bangkok, if you go for a shorter period of time you will be able to get it cheaper. The thing about going to places like Thailand and Bali is that it is cheap once you are there so even if it is a little bit more expensive to go there, you are most likely going to save money as it is cheaper for food, shopping and other stuff like tours. If you look in brochure look out for place that offer bonus like stay 5 nights pay for 4 - that will keep cost down aswell.

We are the same as you - we would prefer to spend the same amount of money and go overseas then somewhere up the coast...

If you do decide to still go to Noosa, you can always buy a copy of Cheap Eats book and that will give you a good idea on the best places to eat that isn't going to charge you a bomb.

Good luck sweetie - you sound like a very confused little duckling at the moment...

Ha ha ha ... you got it in one Peta, I'm EXTREMELY confused! You say you stayed at Phuket for 14 nights for $3,000 ... is that for the both of you? I've been getting quoted HEAPS, what time of year did you go? I got quoted $1,400 each just for the return airfare ohmy.gif I know February is peak season but that's just rediculous! Ideally we'd love to spend no more than about $2,300 on airfares and accomodation.

Do you mind telling me where you book your holidays?

Hi Nat,

Sorry I just read what we wrote and it was 14 nights in total with the 3 nights in Bangkok. It was $3000 for the both of us and that included all airfares, transfers to and from the airport, accommodation and breakfast each morning. It was a real bargain for what we got.. We booked through H@rv#y World Travel for that holiday and are using Fli%gt Ce&^re for our Bali honeymoon. Have a look at this website - they have great deals aswell Travel

I just had a look at this website and I noticed that low season in Feb starts on the 14 Feb so it might work out cheaper to leave a week after the wedding!! We are leaving 4 days after ours cause it was cheaper. It worked out $1000 cheaper for us to wait that couple of extra days... Which works out well for us as we don't have to race around after the wedding to get to the airport...

Hope this helps. Any place to think about (sorry cause I know that you are confused aswell) is Sabah which is in Malaysia - that is meant to be beautiful and cheap aswell...
