We are going off peak (sept) - and managed to do it for $1530 per per person. This includes:

Return Airfares
2 nights and Pathumwan Princess Hotel
4 nights at Holiday Inn Patong
4 nights at Marina Phuket in their jungle villa

This was after loads of research though....

We're going, March next year. We only just confirmed today, paying deposit tomorrow.

My advice is book quick smart if you can! Accom and flights are going like hot cakes!

at the moment thailand is the place to be and you will need to book quick smart to get a full choice of hotels.

we found the holiday inn to be quite expensive compared to some of the others, but then we were looking at pool access rooms.

when we booked in april (for feb) they were booked out of pool rooms at the holiday and the kata thani, so we had to change our accomm. which suited me, as we upgraded!!! biggrin.gif

everyone keeps telling me to book, but the travel agent told me the flights are only released 9 months ahead....

i.e. we could only booked about jan/feb for oct/nov 2009

it is also sounding as though it could be a bit more than i initially thought!

Oh okay.. Now I understand why you are having troubles getting prices.

If they havent told you yet, you should be able to at least find out when they release the next seasons prices and inbetween then and now you can just research as much as you can into the places and hotels you want to stay.
You can at least get ideas of what you will be looking at paying and start saving.

Feel free to PM me if you want details of our costs etc.

Me and my FH love Thailand.Especially FH as he lived in Thailand for a few years when he was young, so it's like this third home (1st Aussie, 2nd NZ). We went to BKK Dec last year. When you are in BKK you should go to Chinatown its realllllyy big, i heard its the biggest chinatown outside china. There are lots of whole sellers, most shops let you buy min 6 pieces of whatever they are selling. so we bought quite a lot of souvenirs there. We wanted to watch the lady boys shows but didn't manage to do that. We stayed in Mercure Grand PArk avenue. we also went to hua hin, a few hours train ride from BKK, it's where local go for short break but when we were there, there are lots of Europeans. We stayed in Anastalia Hotel, which is right by the beach. All we did just lay by the beach and then go to the city to have dinner and come back in a motor bike, 3 people on 1 motor bike. Love to go back to Thailand...

i hope you don't mind me asking you all but how much is everyone paying for flights and accommodation?

I have a 'loose' budget of around $300-$4000 for going to phuket.
I would like to stay at Holiday Inn, Merlin Beach Resort, Kata thani, .... those sort of hotels.

We are also considering stop overs at koh samui and bangkok!

Travel agents haven't been to helpful, as you can only book 9 months in advance.

Anyways we are leaving from perth. But just wondering if my budget for it is ok!

we areplanning on $5000 for 14 days but that is with quite a few flights in country (bangkok to chiang mai to koh samui and back to bangkok or something similar) and staying at decidedly nicer accomodation than what we are both used to! we are usually backpacker/hostel type people and as we are limited to 2 weeks for school holidays decided we would splash out.

Hi ladies

Just thought I would add my experience in....

My hubby and I went to Thailand on our honeymoon in april last year and it was amazing, we had the best time ever.

We stayed as follows...

7 nights in phuket at the holiday inn busakorn wing (couples only no children) which is in patong, it was a beautiful hotel right in the centre of patong which was great but when you were in your room or at the pool it was like you were miles away....

5 nights in koh samui at the Muang Samui, beautiful hotel, right on the beach in chaweng....just stunning

2 nights in bangkok at pathumwan princess - fantastic location on top of MBK, which is so good because at that time of the year shopping in an air conditioned centre was so much beter than the night markets which was sooo hot!

also anyone going to Koh Samui make sure you go on a day trip out to the islands Kho Lak and Koh Nang Yuan, they are so beautiful just stunning, and I had never been snorkelling before it was soo amazing we saw Nemo and so many beautiful fish so much better than the great barrier reef!~

any questions pm me...

I'm just wondering... for those of you who fly between Bangkok, Phuket, ching mai or other cities in Thailand... did you guys joined a tour or something and they arranged that for you, or you arranged all the flights and accomendations yourselves?

for those of you who stayed in koh samui, how did you find the beaches? It seemes to be be best beachy/island place for us to stay but I have read quite a few comments on tripadvisor that talk about how coral/coarse the sand is at the beaches. I know h2b wants to be able to swim at the beaches and in Oz we are spoiled for white sandy beaches...

where are other staying/have stayed in koh samui?

i would go to your travel agent and book your accom now, and tell them you will book your flights at a later date. especially if you want a particular hotel

Prob not much help, but we are planning on staying at Koh Samui @ NOra Beach Resort, this was the best place price-wise I could find that had good reviews on trip advisor.
WE're hoping to be able to do alot of swimming & snorkelling there.
