We are staying at the Sheraton Mirage but have stayed at the Raddison Treetops previously and that was so beautiful.
I love it up there - I grew up in the Soloman Islands and now live in SA so I really miss the humidity - I can never wait to holiday up there!
Does any one know the name of another cruise company to cruise the barrier reef as someone posted the Quicksilver may not be the best but that's the only one that keeps popping up when I google.

It depends on what you want to do and where you want to go, really. For example, do you just want to cruise out to Low Isles and back or do you want to snorkel or dive the outer reef, or do a bit of fishing...

Here are a couple of the companies that go out from Port Douglas:

If you like, PM me, I can look for some more for you. smile.gif

For anyone doing a reef trip out of Cairns who would prefer a smaller group I went with These guys and enjoyed their service.

Also if there is anyone who would like to go on a day trip tour around the region rather then hiring a car I can recommend some good companies.

Oh and if you go up the Tablelands please go to the Mungalli Dairy. Only web info I can find is through another page here. The senery here is breathtaking and the food is great, if you love your cheeses it's a great place to visit smile.gif

Hi. Oh - i didnt mean both in one day - I meant dont want to go on a tour for 11 hours on the one day - We thought if we could do it ourselves we could spend less hours there instead of coming back exhausted.

We would do spanish castles one day and skyrail a different day...

Just wanted to answer your question!

You definitely don't need to do a tour to Skyrail/Kuranda. Just drive your hire car to where the Skyrail starts (just outside Cairns) and buy your tickets! The Skyrail takes you up to Kuranda and you can either take the Skyrail back again or the train. Although when I was there in May the train was out of action.

Actually you reminded me of a question MrsD is there much distance between the skyrail start and the train station? If we drive our car to the skyrail i am worried it will be too much effort to get back to it from the train station if we catch the train home. Does anyone know? smile.gif

In Cairns we stayed at the Lakes Cairns Spa & Resort which we both LOVED. The place was a lot more classy in general. However we did need to hire a car for the time we were there (although there was a bus into the town center which prob ran quite often). But this place has 2 restaurants on site and 2-3 beautiful pools. It was more like a mini-village than a hotel i guess and great service also.

this is where we are staying oct for our honeymoon

Woohoo its all done.

We are going to Port Douglas for 4 nights staying at the 'Pink Flamongo'. They had a cancellation right when i emailed so we got a room! Then we are going back to Cairns and staying 3 nights at 'The Cairns Hotel'. Im so excited now it is done. Some things we may do are

* Cairns Night Markets
* Kuranda - skyrail and scenic railway
* Dinner Cruise - 4 course seafood buffet, music etc
* Daintree river train
* Hartleys Crocodile Tour
* Day trips to the reef
* Paronella Park and rainforest (castles)
* Breakfast with the birds (thanks for the tip KellAdz smile.gif )
* Wildlife African Safari (again thanks)
* Butterfly sanctuary

and i think i am going to surprise H2B with a helicopter tour biggrin.gif

We arent going to do all these things it is just a few of what we are interested in. We wouldnt have any time for ourselves if we did it all ph34r.gif

For our honeymoon we stayed at Mantra Aqueous on Port and it was fantastic.

Excellent location in Port Douglas. We were in a one bedroom spa apartment, that had a fully self contained kitchen, which was great in terms of cutting costs. Coles and plenty of restaurants were a short walk away, and the gorgeous four mile beach was a 2 minute walk.

Accomodation cost us around $1300 for 6 nights.

I have some pics also, which I haven't yet uploaded to my PC. Let me know if you want to see some.
