I've just been reading and enjoying these posts and while tracking back to the time i came to i-do i have realised that i haven't posted my story here yet mellow.gif oops sorry girls wink.gif

So here is my story, romantic wub.gif and un-romantic huh.gif at the same time...

My parents had just returned from an interstate business trip (dad on business and mum just tagging along for the shopping laugh.gif ) after a month of travelling and mum was having "Nanna withdrawals" as she calls them. I picked mum up from the airport with my daughter and was greeted with a "Hi darling i'm confiscating your daughter for the night, i need some nanna time!"

No objection there. A child free night is always welcome to catch up on some sleep and adult time smile.gif

So I sent a SMS to Ryan, who was still at work, to break the news. His response was great let's go out to a nice dinner, after i get home we'll get ready and head somewhere without a playroom. And so it was agreed.

I beat him home, got dressed up nice (perfume and all which is rare for me) and then proceeded to address some neglected emails.

Ryan arrived home and got ready to go out as well. When he caught up to me in the study he said "aren't you going to have a shower and get ready.... you stink." dry.gif

Shrugging off his comment by explaining i had perfume on i continued with my emails. (He jokes with stuff like that eg i wake up in the morning sometimes to the sounds of goodmorning medusa and realise my hair is everywhere so i thought nothing of it due to the rare perfume)

That day, making an obvious comment and poking out my tongue didn't stop the comments. He continued to tell me i needed a shower because i stank or beacuse i really did stink. I told him that i was already showered and changed so he would have to put up with my stench through dinner like it or not as i was starting to get annoyed. He gave up and we left for dinner on time.

He had booked a table at one of our favourite "grown-ups" restaurants and requested a table outside under a tree covered in fairy lights. It was beautiful. We ate, we drank and had a lovely night. After dinner we went home.

He rushed inside like he needed the bathroom and i proceeded to lock up the house for the night. The last door i had to lock was in the laundry. I turned around and saw him standing in the doorway holding my engagement ring!

"Jenny I love you very very much. Would you please do me the honour of becoming my wife?"
"Yes!!!!" wub.gif

I gave him a big hug and the ring was on my finger. We debated for a while if we should call our parents because it was 10:30pm at that stage then decided it would be better for both our health if we called and woke them rather than let them discover we had made them wait.

He didn't get down on one knee because he didn't want to get that close to the pile of dirty washing we hadn't got to yet laugh.gif

He didn't propose at dinner because he had hidden my ring inside his computer and i wouldn't get out of the study long enough for him to fish it out of hiding before dinner! laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

The parents had mixed emotions... We rang mine first. My dad answered the phone and as i wanted everyone to hear the news at the same time i asked for him to put mum on the phone. I think i gave him some story about organising a family barbeque to keep him on the phone. Mum got on and she was annoyed i rang so late because my daughter was still awake and she was trying to put her to sleep. FANTASTIC put her on the phone please. After hearing all about her day i asked her to give Nanny and Grandad a message for me. "Mummy and Pop-Pop are getting married" I hear her turn and tell my parents. What? she repeats. My mum says give me the phone.... Did i hear her right? What are you doing now? Get over here NOW and bring the champagne." biggrin.gif

We rang his parents before we left for mine (after 11pm at this stage). We woke his mum and dad up and we got a half asleep "That's wonderful darling i'll talk to you in the morning" Needless to say we got a frantic call at 6am the next day excitedly finding out if it was a dream or not then finding his parents jumping in the car to drive from sydney to canberra to join us for dinner!

So that's my story, long, unexpected but cute in it's own way. I hope you enjoyed it because i always will... even though i really stank on the day laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

Mine isn't very romantic, but it was very sweet

We were having a lazy sunday morning in bed and Paul whispered in my ear "You know that we are going to end up getting married" I replied "I know", he then said "but it's 2008 and the girl can ask" I said "well lets run off and get married" and he said "ok".

It was really cute, and although we have really only known each other for (brace yourselves) 6 weeks, I know he is the one, and he feels the same about me, total destiny wub.gif

so not alot planned as yet, as we have only been engaged for 2 days, but niether of us are the type to wait around for years, so sometime next year I would imagine. I cant wait to be honest - and to think I never even wanted to get married a few months ago - lmao biggrin.gif

If its right for you, then... does the time really matter? Two of my mum's friends got married after 3 weeks. That was 35-ish years ago and they are still together and very happy! Actually... now I think about it, I have some friends who got married after 3 months, and they have been together for 5ish years now. When they got engaged all our friends assumed that she was pregnant though (she wasn't). FH and I have only been together for 6 months, but we have been friends for 8 years or so.

My proposal story is kind of boring actually. We just got a new couch and had moved our old couch to my parents house until we figured out what we were going to do with it, but at the time had just dumped it in their lounge room. We went over on a Monday arvo to move the couch downstairs and have lunch for our 6 month anniversary, because that is where we'd had a quite drunk conversation about actually having a crack at the relationship (at the time he lived in Queensland and I lived in Melbourne, so leading up to this we were both a bit "do we want to do the long-distance thing"). I was outside reading a trashy magazine and he went out to the car. He came back out and asked me to stand up and delivered a kind of "I love you very much" speech, that I assumed was going to end with "Happy 6 month anniversary" and instead ended up with him on one knee with a ring and a "will you marry me?"

We had talked about getting married before this, and I had always said that I would prefer something simple and casual, because that's the type of people we are, but he wanted something traditional and romantic. So this was his way of trying to blend the two together.

So the first thing we did after we got engaged was... move a couch!

Thank you Ellie. Yeah we are both in our 30's and both have been in serious relationships before, so we know what we want.

I knew was the one for me the first day I met him, and he was the same. My mum loves him which is amazing as she never likes any guy I have been with, and his family love me.

I'm just looking forward to celebrating our love for each other infront of family and friends wub.gif

It was March the 30th 2008 our one year Anniversary. We were on our way back home from Perth, when my FH pulled over and went down this dirt track to where this well was at.( We had been passed it many times before and always said we will go down there one day and check it out.) So I just thought he decided that we would go check it out. We hopped out of the car and went for a walk down this path to this well. He went down on his knee and said will you marry me and i was so shocked and so happy. I said yes. He slid the ring on my finger, then he pulled two coins out of his wallet and handed one to me. We both threw the coins into the well and we made a wish. It was so romantic.

We were staying up the coast for a couple of weeks holiday with my parents in their unit. Anyway...mum and I had to go back to Brissy to get some things and H2b was left with my Dad. Little did I know that was when he was asking Dad for his permission.

So the next day we go out to a few fun places in the morning and then in the afternoon we go for a walk down by the beach. H2b was wearing a jacket and it was boiling and I said to him - why are you wearing your jacket? Leave it in the car you'll get hot. He said, no no, I want to keep it on (he had the ring in the jacket pocket). I thought that was a bit odd and he seemed to be acting nervous and holding his arm against the jacket awkwardly.

We walk down to some rock pools (no one was areound), he turns to face me, gets down on one knee and asks me to marry him. I say yes and the ring is on!! We head off to have some dinner at one of our fav restaurants - Montezumas, haha - and then back to the unit where mum and dad are anxiously waiting and have the camera set up for photos.

I nearly hyperventalated and was crying and laughing, seriously one of the happiest moments in my life. poor Paul was Sh**ing himself, no idea why cause he knew I would say yes. So ring shopping tomorrow smile.gif

That is how I proposed to my man!

LOL! or just look at my signature!

Emma-Jane, FH and were only together 3 months before we decided that we wanted a family! We've now been together for a 1.5 years with a gorgeous little girl and plans on our big wedding day. If you know that it's the right thing to do, than go with what your heart tells you!

This is basically my proposal story when I posted it. smile.gif

That has to be the very best birthday ever!

I'm getting married!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lee proposed today, after tricking me and it was just so beautiful. I cried through the whole thing.

He took me into Bills for brunch, then we headed to Mosman for some window shopping, then down to Bradley's Head for a picnic. I thought it would happen down there. Well, he was very blah, and tired, wanting to sleep. I wanted to stay there no matter how tired I was!!

Eventually he convinced me to go home for a nap as he said he was taking me out tonight, so I then thought it would happen tonight. So, dejectedly I got in the car and we came home.

I arrived home busting to go to the loo, walked in my door and the house was covered in rose petals!! It looked stunning, and the table was beautifully set for two.

I followed the trail up to my bedroom and saw my bed covered in petals, with a wooden box in the middle. He picked it up, dropped to his knee and asked me!! ******SQUEAL********

I am just so excited, my face is hurting from smiling, and my voice is going from talking for 3 solid hours! My two best friends secretly did my house up, and I am mortified as it was a disgrace! They are so lovely, they made my bed and even did my washing up! laugh.gif

Anyway, so here are some photos. I could bore you with hundreds, but we'll start with four.

I am just so thrilled to be able to tell the world I am marrying to most wonderful man! I still can't believe someone was silly enough to agree to marry me!

Yea, so there's my soppy story. smile.gif

My apologies for asking the pics! how can i be such an ass??? seriously sorry!

WOW they are all amazing stories! So here's mine!

We decided to go to Sydney for NYE 07/08 to see his best friend who lives there as i had never been to Sydney for NYE. I had picked out a ring a few months before but had no idea when it was going to happen.

So NYE arrived and FH was acting very strange! We decided not to go to the Rocks for the fireworks as it was packed so FH friends wife suggested we go to Pyrmont Point. It was a long hot humid walk and we were oh so sweaty by the time we got there! We got there JUST as they were starting the count down.... i looked over to FH to see what he was doing as i couldnt feel him behind me. I turned around to find him on his knee infront of hundreds of people proposing. As soon as i turned around the camera's started flashing and i felt like a celebrity. FH had organised for his friend and wife to both take photos of him proposing! Of course i said yes however FH wasnt to happy he had to get down on his knee aobut 10 times as everytime he stood up his friend was like hang on didnt get it properly! lol.

I later found out FH had also asked my dad for permission! Oh such a romantic!

Thought I had added mine, but apparently I didnt tongue.gif

I got mine 4 Jan, so at last I can add smile.gif

Chris & I went horse riding on Sunday morning. Neither of us had ever been before, but it's something I've always wanted to do, so he booked us in for an hour trail ride around Mt Tamborine, which was amazing wub.gif (even though scary at times laugh.gif )

After the horseriding we went for a picnic on the Mountain, which was lovely and on the way home he stopped at the lovely old railway tracks very close to our house. We've been saying that we wanted to take photos there for AGES, but we're somehow always missing the camera or tri-pod or something, so "since we had everything in the car" we decided to stop and take some shots...

So we set it all up, took a few shots and as we waiting for the timer to go off on the camera I looke down and noticed he had a little purple box in his hand (He'd done it on purpose so I would turn around wink.gif ) Anyway, so I turned around and he got down on one knee and asked me wub.gif

He apparently was going to do it at the amazing night at Christmas carols that we had, but hadn't talked to my mum at the stage so decided to wait until he had rolleyes.gif smile.gif

Nov 14th 2007

Originally from the UK, I hadn't been home for a while and I also wanted to show DH where I grew up and meet all my friends etc so we planned a trip to the UK & on the way back thought we would stop off in New York.

Then my Mum and Step Dad decided as treat whilst we were home to take us to Paris for a couple of days.

S and I had been dating for about two years and had lived together for 18 months and although we hadn't really talked about marriage - we both had talked about our future together. Secretly I was hoping that he would ask me and my thinking was - well we're going to be in Paris and NY, what a fantastic opportunity! But then I thought don't be silly, its wishful thinking etc and besides we share our finances and I knew that we had saved every cent for our trip, there was no way S could buy a ring.

So we arrive in Paris and are having a lovely time, we do the touristy stuff and during dinner on our first night arrange for the following morning to go to the Eiffel Tower. So in my head I am thinking if he does it in Paris, this is the spot!

WRONG - that morning, S says he doesn't feel well and doesnt want to go as it will be windy and might make him feel worse. So my parents and I head off by ourselves and I even say to my mum, well I guess he's not going to ask me to marry him then, all sulky!

After lunch we all meet up and go to the Lourve and Notre Dame, so by early evening we are all quite tired and decide to have a couple of hours to relax in our hotel rooms before heading out for the evening.

As soon as we get back to the hotel room, I take my clothes off and jump into bed for a nap. However S mentions that we havent had a moment to ourselves since our trip started, so can we go out for a quiet drink just the two of us and I begrudgingly agree.

We are in this lovely little cafe with candles on the tables and music playing softly in the background, when S takes my hand across the table and tells me how much he loves me, then at the exact moment a large group of workers burst in all laughing and smoking etc, so the owner puts on some dance music and turns the lights up! So moment ruined! S then says lets get out of here and he, knowing how much I like to take photos, says lets go get some snaps of the Eiffel Tower all lit up.

So we are walking next a park trying to find a break in the trees to get a good snap, when S says here looks a good spot, so as I am fumbling around trying to get my camera our of my bag, S says my name and as I turn round he is down on bended knee holding a ring in his hand, he then mentions how I make him the happiest man in the World and would I do the honour of becoming his wife and will I marry him........ wub.gif

Now as I have turned around and seem him on bended knee, a sound escapes my mouth that I have never made before or since but it wasnt very attractive that much I do know! If anyone has seen dumb and dumber, picture the scene where he says do you want to hear the most annoying sound in the world......... That was me!

During the weird noise making I do manage to say 'yes'. Then after lots of hugging and kissing, I ask was that a ring I saw? S promptly holds out the ring and puts it on my finger, he explains though it is just a place holder, he didnt want to get me a ring incase I didn't like it (I probably should explain that the first item of jewelry he bought me - I hated and after two weeks, I had to tell him, because I thought if I don't tell him now I am potentially in for a lifetime of jewelry I dont like - I was in floods of tears!).

Now at this point we are pretty late to meet back up with my parents for dinner so we hurry back to the hotel. On our way back S mentions that he hasnt asked my mums permission, because we had been joined like glue since I had been home and he had not had the chance. So we hatched a plan, that when back at the hotel I would make an excuse to head back to the room for something and then S would ask. So on arrival at the hotel, my parents are sat there with a grumpy look on their faces, saying we are late and that had been waiting for ages etc. when all I really want to do is scream from the rooftops - I am getting married!!! However, as planned, I head back up the room, give it a couple of minutes, then try to call the lift back - and nothing happens - so I am stood upstairs for about 15mins by myself, before the lift finally comes mad.gif . When I get downstairs, my parents and S are stood outside the lift, all with huge smiles on their faces, each with a glass of bubbly in their hands, then they hand me one, have lots of hugs etc before we head out for a fabulous dinner and some Dom Perignon - well when in France biggrin.gif !!!!

I was recently on a trip to Japan with my boyfriend and as we're both relatively young and have only been together for around 2 and a half years, I really wasn't expecting ANYTHING.

Anyway, we were in Kyoto, which is a truly amazing part of Japan. It is mountainous and wonderfully picturesque. We were wandering up a mountain to do a bit of monkey spotting (which we eventually did). On our way back down, my boyfriend said "Let me just get some water out of the backpack" which turned out to be a good segway for him to get down on one knee. I wasn't looking at what he was doing, just the gorgeous view, so you can imagine my surprise when I turned around... and there he was with a ring box.

I have to admit I asked him if he was joking at least twice before I finally accepted! We're the kind of couple who have talked about Marriage openly many times before, but because it was so unexpected I was really dumbfounded.

Anyway, I said yes and we had our romantic moment... and honestly, it's STILL sinking in. It was such a strange feeling. I was so excited, but because we were on an international holiday I couldn't spend a lot of time on the phone to anyone and it was just us and a couple of random backpackers I told that knew!

We're home now, obviously, and it has been nice to receive congratulatory hugs and kisses from all our family and friends.

I also managed in our 'moment' to capture a quick happy snap of my ring. He did so good! It's exactly something I'd pick for myself. It's an 18 Carat white gold band with 4 princess cut diamonds in an invisible arrangement mounted in a claw setting. I seriously knew NOTHING about rings until he told me all of the afore mentioned facts, and it is honestly not important. I just love it because it is so special to me that he chose it and chose to give to me, under no pressure and under no obligation. Just because he wanted to :-)
