it sounds like everyones plans are coming along nicely...
I have ideas but not 100% sure on anything yet.....except the theme were having black and white with hints of red and gold.
But due to financial reasons we may be moving the date even to 2011 sad.gif
I dont really want to as the date we have is special to us but i dont want to race into things and not be able to afford the wedding i have dreamed of.
ps congrats nat nat

Hey gals !

Congrats to all !

I have lots of plans/input for 2010 but we're still undecided on a date. I started a thread to get some feedback on this a while ago and got some great feedback, but maybe you lovely ladies could help us out too.

Our date at the moment is 19th December 2010. We're really hell-bent on having our wedding on a date that is significant to 'us'. Unfortunately, all of these dates between when we got engaged and 2010 never fall on a weekend. Can you believe that?? 19th December in 2010 is on a Sunday. What concerns me is that where we want to have it is no cheaper on a Sunday and our wedding is going to be quite a fan-fare. I don't want the day to affect people (ie, want to leave early or not drink because of work the next day, etc). Also, it's 5 days before Christmas.

Would you be affected by an evening Sunday wedding?
Would you begrudge it being 5 days before Christmas?

My mother keeps trying to convince us to just have it on any Saturday in that year in a season we like and make that day special. She has a point, but I'm relatively anal about these things.

Sorry for the annoying post, but I'd love some really honest feedback.

I'm so excited about this thread, by the way. Can't wait to read everyone's ideas and plans. I really do think the year will sneak up on us all.

Hey Mel,

I think that it would be kinda awaful having it so close to Xmas...think of people with families...they like to enjoy Xmas with their families & u would like ur wedding to be all about u...my SIL is having her wedding 10 days b4 Xmas this year & nobody is happy about it as most people tend to go away...also think of the cost, to u & to them...acommodation tends to be more expensive....& Xmas time is expensive as it is....

Sorry if this offends u hon but im just being honest...hopefully u find something that suits u & everyone else...

Good luck XO

No, that's exactly what I'm after. Often I'll feel people in some forums don't give their honest opinion out of fear of the backlash, but there's no point contributing otherwise, in my opinion.

No offense taken whatsoever, it's all constructive feedback as far as I'm concerned !

Thanks

Hey guys,

Thanks for the feedback.

Just a quick one:

Has anyone started considering money? I suspect it's one of the first things a prospective bride must do. Reason I ask is that with 2010 being 'so far away' in wedding-land talk, how much are you or should we expect to add on to cover inflation costs? I've been trying to ask some vendors how much their prices have increased over the last 3 years and then trying to come up with an overall percentage increase to cover it. I mean, a 10-20% charge to add to the top of an entire wedding bill makes a huge difference to budgeting. Makes me want to get married sooner just so I can get things slightly cheaper.

I was talking to a friend the other day who is getting married in January next year. She was saying that vendors have estimared a threefold price rise over the next few years.

For this reason, we are plannig on booking reception, photographer and cars, in Feb next year. Apparently once you lock in a price and that is on a signed contract, you will get it at that price?

We wont have to pay much for the church as a close family friend is a parish priest and we will be married by him, in his parish at Quakers Hill in Sydney.

Threefold? As in triple the cost?? I hope I read that wrong - I can't come up with $450,000 by 2010 !!!!

Hmmmm........I wonder if people are still buying organs on the black market??........

Yeah - I have asked a few vendors the same thing - very few of them agree to locking in a price over 2 years ahead. They let you book but caution that prices will be amended. Only the reception venue we want allows you to lock in the price and it remains the same. If you can get it and know you won't change your mind then, yep ! Will also lock everything in as early as possible (or funds allow)

HAHAHA

No, I dont think you'll be looking at $450000. But the point of the matter is that it will definately go up!

Its handy to know that some vendors wont sign contracts that far ahead (I didnt know that).
The main thing that my parents are concerned about is the cost of the reception - If I can lock that in I will be happy.

Totally agree with that one, Nat. If we can lock the reception in, that is a MASSIVE load off !

I hope the prices don't triple, or our tiny little budget of $15k will only equal todays $5k! ohmy.gif

I'd really struggle to comprehend that anything could triple in 3 years. That seems a little too extreme. I'm banking on 20% max! Which already adds another 20k or so to our estimated 'budget.' I'm hoping for 10% - that would actually be a decent increase. I think if we're totally sure about our date and what we want, (provided the vendor are happy to lock me in), then I'll lock it in and pray to God that the vendor is still in business by the time the wedding rolls around.

(Oh and believe me, the initial stages of planning have begun!!)

Geez, girlfriend ! You do have it all worked out.

It's actually really amazing what you can make work when you do a little financial research. We've done a similar thing involving moving money here and there.

Really pleased for you. Keep us updated with the plans, though !

hi guys.

i think i can join you in here. We were looking at Dec 2009, but i have a few friends coming from the states and we can cut costs if we wait to 2010. So looks like it will be March 14th 2010. Funnily enough we arent actually engaged yet and it will be a suprise as to when that happens but becuase this shin-dig is going to be huge we have decided to start plannning early.

So far we have planned squat lol.

Well actually all we have compromised on is that it will be a catholic church ceremony (his family wont have it any other way) and we honeymoon in vegas (belated!!), and that there will be 357820149 guests argh!!!!!!

Theme is red white and black. how does my theme sound like a st. kilda jersey?????
i have one bm. and two flower girls and two ring bearers(?) well i will have an eight year old boy and a 6 year old boy at the time.
the only other thing is this will be my second wedding. I had the elopement type thing last time so we will be going all out.

kristi, if your still around. this loan will it have redraw on it? and extra repayment option?
you may be able to leave the wedding money on the loan and keep your interest down till you actually need the money then redraw it. It would problee save you more money that way than putting it in an account to yield interest.
and your dog is adorable!!!!!!!

Hi girls, I'm back! I haven't been in the forums as so much has been happening.

Have thought a bit more about our wedding plans -
- We have picked our bridal party (5 bridesmaids/ 5 groomsman)
- We are having a Catholic church wedding
- I am having red roses

Thats about it, my mum has put a ban on talking about the wedding until after Christmas. After that I think we will go full steam ahead.

Hey Nat !

Hope you haven't been away for any bad reasons? Hope all the stuff going on has been good stuff!

Wow 5 of each, hey? I had been thinking the same - maybe even 6 but everyone thinks that is overkill. I'm also constantly getting slammed because everyone has told me to keep my mouth shut about picking bridal party members until closer to things because everything changes. Unfortunately, I keep asking people when I've had a little to drink. At this rate, I'll have 25 bridesmaids ! laugh.gif

Love the roses idea. We'll be having white ones - everywhere !

Oh, and I have to say it's not too bad an idea that your mum has banned wedding talk. I've kind of banned it myself. I started to annoy myself going on about it so much - I can't imagine what other people felt like. I think coming here and seeing people's ideas and sharing your opinion on wedding related stuff helps because it provides you with an outlet.

I printed out a price guide from Peppers menswear upon Brett's recommendation. They have gorgeous suits. As I keep saying, I have everything planned, it's just a matter of throwing money together and waiting around for time to speed up. I seriously have no idea where we're going to find the money for the kind of wedding I have planned, in addition to all of the other life plans we have. I feel so guilty when I think about it and not ONE person thinks it's a good idea to spend a lot of money on a wedding. I find that hard to understand? Doesn't anything think it's special enough or worth it? When I'm old and grey I won't be bragging to the lovely Mormon boys that come knocking on my door about how quickly I paid my house off back in the day, I'll be bragging about the most amazing wedding I had. Does that make sense to anyone or am I seriously just unrealistic about the whole exercise?

Meanwhile, good luck Nat. Come back here when you're allowed to talk about plans again ! LOL
