We stayed at Karon when we were there too! So much nicer than staying in noisy Patong, especially for a romantic trip! How long will you be there for? Have you been before?

Wooooohooooo! I am so excited for you. smile.gif

All I can suggest is sleeping tablets on the plane, it gets very boring on there.

I'm soley basing my decisions on accommodation on whether there is a pool bar or not! laugh.gif

Brett, see www.bestflights.com.au for cheap flights. I am about to book a package with them. One of the specials they are advertising for Phuket is 4 nights accom in a range of hotels with return flights on Thai Air starting at $653! Cheap as! Obviously it's more from Sydney but still flippin cheap!

$ingapore @ir has a sale on now too, ends March31st. So check them out. We watched movies the whole way because we couldn't sleep.

There are great little markets in Karon that are all undercover. We also did an elephant safari while we were there. It included a little cooking demo, some cultural stuff, a few other animals, you watch the baby elephants do a few things like paint, play soccer etc then go for a ride in the forest. It's great, just make sure you pick a company that looks after it's elephants properly.
Get a cheapo massage on the beach, check out the restaurants on the beach too. Easy day trips to the islands for snorkelling and stuff. So much to do, you will have a fab time!

FH and I went there a couple of years ago. We stayed at Kata Beach (just past Karon), and I completely agree that it was great to stay somewhere away from the busy Patong strip.
My brother gave me some advice before I went (and I didn't listen to it but should have):
Don't walk down the main street of Patong without a tan. Otherwise they know you are new tourists and everyone preys on you. I lasted five minutes on our first trip and FH and I bolted to a Tuk Tuk to take us back to our resort. At the end of the week when we were both tanned, we walked down the main street with no problem at all and actually got to have a good look around as opposed to feeling harrassed. I have to laugh about it now.
It's a gorgeous place though - you will love it! And the resort you chose looks so luxurious!

Brett we will probably be there the same time. We are staying at Kata Beach at the Katathani. We booked Singapore Airlines because I'm terrible at sleeping on planes so wanted a airline that I could watch movies!
