I am having problems getting my head around the cost of having my make-up (and the bridal party) done, I can justify the cost of hair - given the amount of time it takes, but the make up seems crazy

Were people happy with their results - is the outcome worth the expense?

I definitely think it is! I am really pleased with the way my makeup came out. Although I thought I would be able to do my own makeup on the day, once I had a trial and saw what a professional could do, I was sold!

Can I ask how much you're looking at paying? I'm paying $80 for me, and $70 for bridesmaids - I think that's reasonable.

it is DEFINITELY worth it. if you get a good artist who uses professional quality makeup they can make you look completely flawless (but natural)

the lady that did mine was really good, she had a little questionnaire that I had to answer (with things like what colours do I usually wear, what colours do I like, did I want my freckles completely hidden)

and honestly, i could NEVER have done my makeup that good.

oh, make sure that you find one that does it in matte colours. I had one trial with a lady that uses matte foundation etc, and one with a lady who used all this shiny stuff. Both looked quite similar in the mirror, but I took lots of flash photos, and in the shiny one I looked like I was sweating!

development is a journey, not a race

Yes its worth it. I see it as we are paying 3k for photos, $70 for make up is nothing if it will mean i will look good in those photos! Plus they know what colours to use, i usually just wear the same, varied a bit for work and going out. They also know how to make it say, and what looks best in photos.

The first photographer i saw asked me if i had booked a make up artist, which i hadn't, and he just told me to choose wisely, and told me a good brand of make up photographers recommend, and told me to chose someone who uses that brand, or is really good at what they do.

he showed me some pics of girls with not so fab make up, and it was so obvious in the pro pics - and they cant do much about it.

For me, i think its a necessity

I will be definately as I dont wear make -up at all, and do not have the faintest idea, so I dont think I'd try to discover some hidden talent on my wedding day and make myself look like a clown laugh.gif.

My SIL is pretty good with hair and makeup, so she will be doing the BM's.

I would never have considered not getting a professional to do my make up. I had 3 or 4 trials and paid through the nose for them (some in posh places, some not) and ended up going with a person who charged me $40 on the day.

I could justify $40.. even $50.. but $80 to me is quite expensive for where we are getting married and for the budget on the day... mmmm... might have to think some more about this

Thank you ladies for all your help, I will do it, I've been thinking about today anyway and realized that I would end up buying new make up that would end up costing the same anyway

Everyone I ring is around $90-$150
