I'm looking at Iririki for my honeymoon in February next year and just wanted some recommendations from people. What's it like? Is it appropriate for a honeymoon?

Thanks girls smile.gif

Our best man and his wif got married there in March last year.

They had an absolutely fantastic time and want to go back!

Their wedding was gorgeous (just the two of them) and all the staff were lovely.

They said they had a ball and there was always plenty to do.

I think they went in Rainy season though and it did rain alot when they were there,

but obviously that didnt stop them from enjoying it!!!

You go and have a fantastic time!!!

Aww thanks! We are also going during monsoon season, but I've been told that usually it might only rain for like 10mins at a time, so that's not too bad at all. I guess as long as I'm with my new hubby I won't care if we have to be locked indoors smile.gif

I've been there! It was about 5 years ago, but I'm sure it wouldn't have changed much since then.

Iririki Island is directly opposite the main town of Port Vila. It takes about 5 mins in a water taxi (free 24hrs) to get across there. Port Vila is really tiny and there isn't that much to see there.

Iririki resort itself was really nice. We stayed in one of the over-water bungalows which was quite fun! They have all the usual water sports etc. and there are a few day trips you can do to other islands.

We also stayed on Hideaway Island, which is a little further away from town. It had less 'facilities' and was a smaller island, but SOOOOOO romantic! Highly recommend it.

Finally, we did a day trip to Erakor Island, which I absolutely LOVED and wished we had stayed there too! They have private bungalows with your own piece of beach!

I haven't stayed there but went to Port Vila on a cruise a few years ago. I fell in love with the beautiful little island in the bay. I would love to go and stay there and thought about having our honeymoon there, but Adam really is looking forward to a cruise so that is what we are looking at right now.

I would definitely recommend it though!

Susie, is the water around Iririki resort really nice, or do you really have to go to other parts of the island for clear swimming water?

I just looked at the Erakor Island Resort, it looks amazing ... thank you so much for recommending it, think I'll get some quotes for it now smile.gif

Well, I just called about the Erakor, it sounds pretty much the same, except they don't have air conditioning in any of the rooms and it's a tiny bit cheaper than the Iririki. Hmm, I'm confused as to what to do now, lol! Maybe I should book half at one place and half at the other!
Other differences were Erakor doesn't have a pool whereas Iririki does.
Iririki has a crush coral beach whereas Erakor has a sandy beach which sounds much more appealing.

Hmm, so confused! Bl*e H0l!days just quoted me like $600 less per person than Fl!ght C**tre which is fantastic, but unfortunately they need full payment upfront sad.gif That money is gonna be hard for us to come up with seeings as we are building our first home atm as well. Bugger.

I just spoke to my girlfriend (who came with me on the trip to Vanuatu) and neither of us remember swimming in the sea while staying at Iririki. We seem to remember that the water got deep quite quickly (it's like a harbour there).

My friend also said that she prefered the Iririki resort, but prefered Erakor island itself (IYKWIM). She also still raves about Hideaway Island and told me to make sure I recommended it highly from her too! Apparently it's been done up since we were there and is even nicer now. smile.gif BEAUTIFUL water around Hideaway island, fantastic snorkeling right off the beach.

Good luck deciding! IMHO, you will have a lovely time whichever of the 3 that you pick. biggrin.gif

Thank you so much Susie, you've been a great deal help smile.gif
Looks like I'll be adding Hideaway Island to my list also, I'd love to be able to snorkel straight off the island.

Oh, btw, it is my dream to swim with the dolphins ... do you know if that can be done at all in Vanuatu? LOL, I'm not even sure if they have dolphins there tongue.gif

We are staying at Iririki I also have also done my research on resorts and by luck I have a friend at work that use to live over there she highly recommended Iririki to us. The fact no children either was also apealing for quiet time relaxing !! biggrin.gif

Have heard though that the over water bunglows can get smelly when the tide goes out though due to coral.... solved that though we are staying in harbour view room which have been recommended for honeymooners.

I booked through Har**y Wor** Tr**el and they were great we have been paying it off you should call your local agent and see what they can do for you

We also got onto a meal deal package called the Iririki pass $110 per couple which is cheap and is like a 2 for one meal and activity card at various restaurants and water sports etc if you would like more info pm me will be glad to share great info i have found smile.gif

Also heard there is a lot to do from another couple that honeymooned there ie tours activities etc

We are really not sure now about the whole Vanuatu thing. It's fairly cheap, but still way over our budget. We didn't want to go over $2,000 for airfares and accomodation, and we are already up to $3,300 ... oopsy! huh.gif Originally our plan was to go somewhere small after the wedding, to help us save extra money for our trip to Europe in May/June.

We have to go SOMEWHERE for at least 5 days after the wedding to get away from everything and spend time together, so now I'm on the search to find something cheap but decent at the same time!

Hi Nat,

I have been to Irikiki Island and it is so very beautiful!!! You will love it if that is where your decide to go. Also a guy I work with went there for there honeymoon last year and they were over the moon!!!

If you don't want to go over $2000 have you looked into places like Port Douglas or even the Sunshine Coast - they have some lovely resorts!!! Have a look at Getaway Website and they always have heaps of ideas for travelling in and outside of Australia.

Also check at this website it has some fantastic deals aswell Holidays

Good luck hon and I really hope that you found something soon..

Thanks Peta, you're always so much of a big help smile.gif
I guess H2B and I just have to decide if we really wanna spend that much money for our honeymoon. We both definately wanna go to Vanuatu, we are just worried that we can't really afford it. But on the other hand, we think 'bugger it, it's our honeymoon and we should go all out!'. Guess it's just hard cause we are building a house at the moment also.
Do you think that if I leave it a little longer that maybe some better packages will become available?
