smile.gif I think 20 is enough but you should check how much it would cost if you wanted more pages as you may change your mind once the pics are done. Find out if they CAN add pages later on as some albums are bound and it makes it nearly impossible to add pages later.

You can also get really nice digital collages, on some of your pages, which show a variety of photographs on the one image/page and can use alot of your fave pics that you want included in the album.

We are also getting our album pics on CD on high res if we want to reprint some. biggrin.gif

We went with a high profile (I think that's the word I'm searching for) photographer and paid for the privilage. We also ordered 20 sides however when we went into his studio to look at the photos there was no way we could go with only 20 sides. The photos he took were exquisite and we wanted nearly every one in our album. I think we ended up getting 40 sides aswell as some larger prints. In the end, our photography came to over $5K. Well worth it though, wouldn't change it for the world. There wasn't one dud.

I too have gone with a high profile photographer and will be paying $3800 for 22 sides. We have seen so many photographers its not funny and we decided to go with the better quality. However, I can understand that many would think that is a lot of money (including my mum biggrin.gif ) it just comes down to personal preference and budget.

Our package included 20 sides and I thought that would be heaps....
He basically laid it out in digital format to see what we thought and it was 37 pages....we had to cut it down a bit but there were some we couldn't
We paid $2,800 for the package and now another $1,300 on additional pages. It was too hard to choose.....
Photography is so expensive....

hi B2B's,

it looks like the areas we live in make a big difference to the cost of photographers as does the 'style' and 'feel' of the actual person and the pics...it seems to feeel comfy & confident with the person is the seller

we have been looking hard and are finding photographer selection the hardest part of the all he planning so far!

we have found a chap who we feel pretty sure we are happy with having browsed at many and he is the first we have actually spent more than 5 mins with.

the base package; for $2700 we get 5 hours, 13" leather look designer album with 18 sides, all the negatives (all digital, at the same time as we get the album, no waiting months), full proof book (up to 450 pics i think it is), proofs on CD rom, slide show on CD rom, free 8x10 and 6x8 enlargement.
pages
we can add pages including 'magazine style' pages for (magazine is $45 each within the black page border or $75 each for the entire page) A double magazine page spread is $150

As we are marrying on a friday (weekday) we get a 10% discount so that will cover a couple of magazine and 1 spread page....biggrin.gif

I felt very confident that he will show me looking devine on the day in the pics...he can even air brush if i have a large pimple of spill choccoy ohmy.gif on my dress! and if there is any 'rubbish' anywhere in the background....

We are in Sydney, and the options are endless.....would you beleive, i plan to look at 2 more in the next couple of weeks before making my final decision..i wnat to see that i don't like th others as much to feel sure...$2700 huh.gif is a bit more than we had wanted to pay too, but hey, it seesm realistic based on the feel of the guy...how much can one pay for confidence i guess..

all the best to everyone in this process.....and i will be showing the pics after end of may 2005...yaaaayyyyyy!

like with everything i think the general rule is you get what you pay for!

that said, you may find someone with not as much experience with a small setup can print some outstanding work just as someone with 30yrs experience with a large pro-lab may be having a bad day and botch it!

i agree with shirl, location location location.

But beware, I've worked for some real rip off merchants, if they do charge a lot more than seems reasonable ask why. Prestige of the company? (like a brand name) Expensive processing? etc

Our photographer wasn't cheap but i fell in love with their work. We went and viewed our photos last week and we were there for over 3 hours laying out our album. Our package included 18 sides and we've ended up with 38! And that was leaving out a LOT of photos too! We've got 12 months to pay of the extra pages though and it's interest free so there was no way I could say no they were just too good!

I've got to say... sides were never discussed when we booked our photography. I think we ended up with about 40+.

What as important to us, was the photography was good, the price wasn't exhorbitant, and we got our negatives to keep and use as we liked.

Thankfully we found all of this with Leisure Photography (advertises in I-Do). Sue was fantastic, we have some terrific shots, and a great album. Plus we got all of the photos that didn't appear in the album in a 6x4 format.

Best of all WE own the rights to our own negatives, so we can reprint, enlarge etc whenever we like.

All of this for under $2000 !!!! biggrin.gif

We are paying a lot - but we knew that we would. We are both interested in photography and do some work taking photos. We have seen a lot of photographers and felt the most comfortable with the one that we chose. We are paying about $4k - (ouch) but we are getting

- Pre wedding shoot
- unlimited colour, B&W, E6 and other colour options
- 2 photographers
- coverage from grooms home to night shots after the wedding
- copy of all photos taken in 6" x 4" between 700-1000 shots
- DVD proofs
- 4 16'x24" enlargements
- 30 thankyou cards of our favourite shot
- 30 side album
- 2 x parents album (4 sides each) (its a start!)
- negatives after 2 years
- travel and accommodation costs for the 2 photographers as we are not getting married in Sydney.

I really think that it has to come down to what you feel comfortable paying and what you want. I know a friend who paid $900 and at the time thought she was getting a real deal but wasn't as happy with the end result. We have researched and researched the whole photographer thing and "we" think that we will be getting our moneys worth. On that note though we aren't telling too many people how much we are paying because we don't want their opinions.

We think that at the end of the day the photos become the memories, so we are willing to pay.

As a photographer myself... I can honestly say that 90% of the time, you get what you pay for when it comes to wedding photos... it's the people with the experience and skills that charge the most...

Still there are exceptions to the rule.. if you or anyone wants to hear a photographers opinion on the person you've hired, feel free to PM me a website and I'll tell you what I can from looking at their folio..

Twenty sides will allow you to have roughly fifty images (realistic mix of sizes from 8x10" to 4x5" combinations). This would normally be suitable for up to five hours coverage for your average size (non-European) bridal party.

If your photographer has done a good job then you may find it difficult to stick to this limit. I would advise you to investigate the price of extra pages just in case you can't cull them back anymore.

We have booked our photographer, and he costs a bit more that we would ideally like to pay, but we decided that was OK because the photos are one of the few things we actually get to keep from the day. We're paying for food and drink that's going to get eaten, flowers that are going to wilt, a dress that I'm not going to wear again, etc, etc, etc. So we figured, why not splash out on the one part of the day that we get to keep and remember smile.gif

just thought i'd also tell everyone what we're getting smile.gif

we're paying $2250 to get:

- coverage of both groom and bride's homes
- ceremony and after
- locations
- start of reception
- unlimited in images, time, locations
- colour, B&W, extras like sepia, coloured tones, hyper colour as well
- preview prints in 6" x 4" (or a bit smaller, i think) in proofs album or on DVD

our album will have:
- 24 sides
- 11" x 14" in size
- unlimited images on each page
(i saw another photographer who told me there was a limit of FOUR images on each page!?!)

the package includes a 11"x14' enlargement, as well as a complimentary 16"x20"

as a special offer, we can also upgrade album cover to leather, metal, or wood, or receive a free DVD player.

he is also happy to throw in 4 EXTRA PAGES, or ANOTHER enlargement at no extra charge! biggrin.gif

i know this is quite long, but i'm quite happy with all of it and just thought i'd share. he's also a nice guy!

if anyone is in melbourne and is interested in him, PM me.
