My fiance is a bit of a photographer and so it was really important to us to have nice photos. However we nearly fell over when we went to our photographer's appointment because we didn't realise the price would be so high.

We had a think about it and we decided to go with the photographer and to just get what we could afford. Anyway for our $3800 I think we'll get about 20 sides (thats 10 physical pages I guess). Is this enough to capture the important bits of the wedding?

They wanted an extrat $500 to cover the reception plus we'd be up for the cost of those photos so we said no thanks. Our friend is gonna take pics at the reception and we'll make a separate album of those piccies we think.

Can anyone tell me how many sides their albums were and whether they feel there were enough photos in there?

Did you shop around before you chose your photographer? Sounds expensive, although I dont know exactly what you are getting.

We are only getting 20 sides too. i think that will be plenty. And if there are a couple more photos that you simply MUST have, just pay the little bit extra and get them!

20 sides is enough for a main album. You don't want to go overboard and put too many, otherwise then it will just be like your proof album.

Hi Amanda

Glad to hear someone else is having less than 35 sides:)

We did shop around but we really wanted that photojournalistic feel to the photos and it seemed the only places that could do this well charged like a herd of rhinos!

One place we went quoted a 7,000 APPEARANCE FEE FOR THE PHOTOGRAPHER and their platinum package was 20 GRAND.

For our money we get the photographer for 2 hours before the ceremony to 1 hour into the reception. She takes a minimum of 300 photos and they are done in film, digital, black and white, colour, sepia and cross processing. We get a big wall print, a c.d of the piccies, a nice album, 20 sides and we get the negatives for free after 18 months.

I think it's enough.

Although, I do think the price is really high for what you're getting.

(this of course is also hard to judge as i don't know who you're using etcetc)

Hi,

Our package included a minimum 20 side album - i budgeted for a 40 side album cause i knew we'd go over!! We actually went to a 60 side album, but we always knew that we'd never comprimise on what photos we wanted, so we didn't mind spending the $$ - we had a lot of trouble saying "no" to some of the photops cause they were such good quality of the photos we decided to go with what we liked - which ended up being the 60 page album. We were fortunate enough to have gone witha photographer who is letting us pay the extra off in monthly instalments - we pick up the album in 2 weeks!!.

just to give you another idea, my SIL's album was a 40 side album, but she was restricted by price.

Good luck for your wedding, but becuase of it being one of the most special days of your life, be aware that you may not be able to limit yourself to 20 pages.

I do agree that $3,800 sounds a lot for 20 sides though.....

Siobhan,

BTW your wedding plan photos look absolutely gorgeous. I absolutely love that dress! I sort of know that girl that is wearing it too, she is a friend of a friend.

And your ring! Oh wow! biggrin.gif

Anyway, I think your photos will be fine, if your fiance is a photographer and you are getting a professional photographer also, you will have HEAPS of photos...and your partner would have lots of photographer friends am I right? The first peice of advice i got from a bride was to not worry that you wont have enough photos as you end up with so many!

My dad is a photographer too so he will be taking photos at our reception and we are only having a professional photographer to take the 'formal' shots.

Good luck with everything.

Some of the suburban photographers do really good work too, and they charge WAY less than the big city boys.

Look in local papers or Local yellow pages.

Ours is a local mob but they have the style we are after.

Just a thought....

Hmmm- the general vibe here is that I'm paying quite a bit for what I'm getting so yes I think it is time to have another look around.....I must say tho when I saw the work our photographer had done I got a bit teary.

But then again it was played as a slideshow on a big screen with dimmed lights and Dido playing in the background tongue.gif

AMANDA27 I had a bit of a gander at your album and I really dig that cuff! Been looking for one for a while but can't find any like that- have you found place that carries it?

When we were looking for our photographer, "sides" never even came into it.

What we looked for was coverage of the day (7hr total), number of *total* photographs taken (as we would receive them all in a 6x4 format to keep, that we got our negatives to keep straight away and that the actual album they were presented in was of good quality.

We got all of this, plus we didn't have to go through and try to choose which photos went in, our photographer did this for us (thankfully.. i'd have never been able to choose).

All for under $1900, too.

There was no way we'd have paid over $2500 for photos.

I think its pretty much unlimited photos on each side (within reason- u couldnt say ask for a thumbnail size print of each photo on each page wink.gif )

I will definately keep my eyes open for something of the same style/quality which is cheaper. In all honesty I originally thought $2,000 was an awful lot for photos. Anyway we'll see how I goes...

We're using a friend, He's trying at the moment to build his portfolio so we're in luck. He's been taking photos for 25 years.
He is charging $5 per photo - you know the ones bigger than regular prints. - matted in that Black cardboard frames. He can make us an album and the albums he buys are $120 so that on top of our photographs.

We are more than happy with that. He thinks he'll take 5-6 rolls from the girls getting dressed, to the boys waiting at the park, Photos during the ceremony, and at 1-2 locations then to the reception for some 'setups'. Colour and black and white. Also as they aren't from a big corporation we can copy them at will.

All this and we are only paying for the actual film and printing.
I am wrapped!!!

Plus he's a great guy, I've seen his work, i've even been his work! I trust him and his wife, who is his gofer.

Our photography budget is $500.

So personally i think $3800 is a LOT.
And sorry i have no idea about sides...
Do you only get the photos that are in an album?
Have you seen the albums? how many photos fit in them?
The ones Calvin showed us fit 1 per page. 5*7 does that sound right?
