hello,

thought i would join the thread, Hubby and i are going to LA and Vegas before we go to the Carribean for the Cricket world cup..

Not sure where we are staying yet, i have been researching hotels in LA. Basically we have 12 days to do LA and Vegas. We will most likely stay around Hollywood area for a few days and Anaheim for a couple aswell. then 4 nights in Vegas.

We wont have access to a car so will be getting around on Public Transport and cabs, which area in Hollywood/Beverley Hills do you think would be best?? Any reco on hotels?

We are living in the UK at the moment and are going home to Melbourne end of Feb until we fly out to LA on March 26th....very exiting

Mel

Janelle - I am most looking forward to seeing the sights in NY, and going to San Diego Sea World, we have arranged a day trip there. I can't really explain the fascination with seaworld, but since we booked it I have become obsessed!

I picked up my passport this morning, so I"m ready to go now, just have to get my luggage which H2B's parents are buying as a late christmas present for us.

What are you most looking forward to?

Hi Lissy Loo!

Another USA traveller biggrin.gif I dont know too much, but the place we are staying in LA, the Crowne Plaza Beverly Hills is pretty well located to everything. Well it took us a day or 2 to work it out last time we stayed there, but there is a bus stop bascily right at the front door, and those busses can get you anywhere. Most we ventured was santa monica, it was worth the trip! it i advertised in the travel brochures as being well located to all the touristy things.

Jaclyn, i dont know what im most looking forward to really. I look forward to spending more time looking around the casinos in Vegas, as last time is was rather rushed, and we saw no more really than the slot machines and buffets (not that thats a bad thing lol). I really wanted to see the shark reef at the mandalay bay, but never got around to it. And i also noticed that the silverton has an aquarium too, so ill look into that.

I was thinking of going to san diego sea world, as i love fish and stuff. I dont know tho, i think we may do universal studios rather than that, have to think about it.

I bet getting your passport makes it all feel more real, luckily i have that sorted from our last trip, one less thing to worry about! biggrin.gif

hello,

Are any of you hiring a car for part of your trip?
The more i research the more i think we might need a car for some of the days, not all..neother of us have driven on the 'wrong' side of the road before and i am quite scared of it.
We will be spending 3 or 4 nights in Anaheim to start with and wanted to go to San diego for a day at the zoo but the train doesn't seem to have anything available to come back on the same day which is odd...also would like to see Newport beach and Laguna although i have been there before in 2000...the only real way to get there easily is to drive.

Anyway what are you all doing to get around LA and to and from Vegas if you are going there??

Thanks
Mel

We will not be hiring a car. unsure.gif

We plan to just use public transport to get around LA, we did that last time and it worked well, once we got to know how it worked and stuff.

Anaheim - we will be using our feet, and maybe busses, taxi's - we did that last time too. Tax is a last resort, when we got lost and didnt know how to get back lol. blink.gif

To get to vegas we are getting a transfer from our hotel in anaheim to LAX, then flying to Vegas, and getting a transfer to our hotel.

OMG 7 weeks! biggrin.gif

Oh, I hear you! Sometimes I actually forget that we are getting married before we go! The wedding is basically organised, but there is still a bit left to do on the honeymoon.

What time of year did you go over last time, I know that NY is going to be cold, but what about LA and Vegas. I'm a bit unsure of what to pack, and if I have to get any new clothes before I go?

Last time we went it was sept/oct, it was so nice like spring temps here.

Im a little worried about going in march, i dont know what to expect!

Today in Anaheim temps were 9 deg to 14 deg unsure.gif I dont want to have to wear jumpers and stuff, i mean i only have a small bag! lol

I know its still a little bit off but is not going to get a whole lot warmer... I hope it does though... But at least vegas should be pretty ok, not hot but not cold, hopefully just right!

But i mean its still a holiday i suppose - and thats a good thing! biggrin.gif

I just want to go prepared! My sister-in-law has said that polar fleece and a wind cheater are going to be my best friends in NY, judging by the temp in anaheim, I might need them there too!

I'm getting sooooo excited! I can't wait to see disneyland!

I went to USA in July/August 06. We had about 51/2 weeks over there, and went to Las Vegas, New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles & Honolulu.

I loved all the places there, however Las Vegas, New York and Honolulu were my favourites.

If you want to ask me any questions, feel free as I've been there recently, and stayed quite a while, so may be able to help with questions you might have!!

And Jaclyn.... San Diego Seaworld is awesome! I loved it!! You have to, absolutely HAVE TO, see the Shamu show. It's fantastic. Make sure you get there well in advance though, as the seats fill up quickly, even though there's lots of seats!!! The splash zone is definitely the way to go! hehehehe

I also loved Universal Studios. It was really good. We got Front of Line passes when we went, and I cannot recommend them enough, especially if you're doing a half day there. The Front of Line passes (although a little extra $$) gives you the ability to get on rides through a seperate access gate, which takes you directly to the front of the line (skip the long queues).... and with the shows you get to go in first, meaning you get front row seats!! IT IS SO WORTH THE EXTRA $$$$!!

Disneyland was good to see, although it wasn't as wonderous as what my husband & I had anticipated. Maybe we're ruined from living near the big theme parks in QLD, but it seems to be not as big as we'd thought (although don't get me wrong it is huge)... and of course as we know it... it's very kid orientated!!! But please by no means take my advice to heart..... if you're planning on going there, definitely go there. As I'm glad we went there & saw it!!

I've got lots of other advice if you're interested.... feel free to contact me if you want more info!!

Cheers
Kate

My son is there at the moment with his girlfriend and her parents. They did 3 days at LA, during which they visited Disneyland and shopped. Then they travelled by bus to Vegas. They stopped on the way at Barstow and shopped at a huge factory outlet complex. He said it was well worth it. They bought heaps. They are now staying at Caesars Palace at Vegas. They went to Cirque du Soleil, shopped, checked out all the other casinos, they are next to the Bellagio fountains. He says they are awesome. They did a helicopter flight over Hoover Dam, Boulder City and Grand Canyon. They had brekky at the bottom of the canyon. They are also contemplating going on the stratosphere ride which is a thrill ride 100 storeys up.
Tomorrow they go back to LA to do universal studios.
It all sounds pretty exciting. smile.gif

Hi Jaclyn

Yep, I'm sh$@!ing myself!!! I hate planes, I get really edgy on domestic flights so I'm not too excited about this one. I think it's only 12.5hrs, but thats 12 hours too many!! I'm planning on taking sleeping pills to get me thru it biggrin.gif

We're going to Anaheim for 3 days, staying at the Hilton. Have arranged to go to Disneyland (YAY!!), and a day tour to stars homes, Hollywood Sign/Bowl, Maans Chinese Theatre (i think that's what it's called!) shopping etc, and one day to take it all in.

Then, 5 days in Vegas, staying at the MGM Grand. We're going to the drag races the night we get there. Also have a helicopter flight to the Grand Canyon/Hoover Dam, and another one at night over Vegas.

I can't wait!!! Everytime I think about it I really have to convince myself that we're going biggrin.gif
