I was so excited to see Pipeline expecting it to be like in the movies with big waves crashing etc but i forgot that you only get the surf in Winter and we were there in Summer rolleyes.gif laugh.gif

MissMookz, we were pretty excited to see Pipeline too. But, the funny thing was we couldn't find it at first. We were expecting there to be a sign saying "Pipeline". tongue.gif But there's no sign. So we had to stop at the local surfshop and ask them where it was and get a map. blink.gif

They had waves when we were there. But they weren't the huge monsters that they get Dec/Jan. Would love to sit on the beach and see them. wink.gif

Your photo's are fantastic. smile.gif

Hi girls,
we're planning to go to Hawaii for our honeymoon in December for 2 weeks...
We have been lucky enough to have booked a self-contained apartment in Manoa owned by friends of the family. I've spoken to a friend who has stayed in the apt. and apparently it's lovely, air conditioned and all the creature comforts.. and it means if we don't want to eat out I don't have to, but if we want to we can, and we're able to stay a bit longer.

Empress, can I ask how long before the wedding you booked the Jetstar tix? I keep watching their sales and I'm on their emailing list, but I'm a bit frightened about leaving it too late and missing out. A friend recommended www.bestflights.com.au, so I'm keeping an eye on that too.

We're trying to cut costs (in the right places) and get a great deal. Usually you get a better deal with things if you book early, but I have a sneaky suspiscion that it doesn't always work that way with airfares...

We were thinking of tacking on an extra week to the honeymoon and getting some flights across to the mainland to check out San Francisco and Las Vegas, but this looks like it'll add a whopping 3K onto our holiday, which is almost what the first two weeks combined will have cost... not sure how to book it all, because sometimes the travel agents are more expensive than booking online... hmmmmmm

Can anybody offer any advice? I'm in Melbourne.

Thanks heaps girls!

Hi Ronnie

I booked our tickets in September. The reason why they were cheap is because they were launching their new international routes. A month or two earlier I tried to get tix to Vietnam or Thailand but couldn't find any on any decent dates we wanted. I guess we were lucky to get these, they only cost us $777 ea return, including taxes, 1 meal and 1 set of headphones.

Yep, I'd recommend joining up to all the major airlines newsletters so you'll be first to know if more offers come up. I've already seen several good offers in the last few months, there was a great deal to Bangkok the other day through Bestflights.

Yeah usually it's cheaper if you book about 6 months or so in advance, but then also if you book last minute it can be cheap too, it's just a bit of a gamble unfortunately sad.gif

Good luck finding a cheap flight smile.gif

Hi there lovely Empress...
I chatted with one of the girls from bestflights tonight on their 1300 number, and sussed out what to do... I've joined their newsletter and she said that they're selling their early December flights at the moment, so I'll keep my eyes peeled for deals coming up in their newsletters, and the best part is I don't have to pay in full, just a deposit (even tho it's a website).

That was our dilemma.. we didn't want to fork out the $K's all now, rather spread them out a little.

I also found some reasonable travel insurance underwritten by CGU I think.. www.1cover.com.au
We can get unlimited medical insurance for the US for 22 days for only AUD $82 each - pretty reasonable.

Great! Also join Qantas and Jetstar's mailing lists smile.gif

Ohh that's pretty cheap insurance! Usually US is more because of their high medical costs. Thanks for reminding me, I hadn't looked into travel insurance yet smile.gif
