I was recommended to buy "What to expect in the first year"

I find it almost completely useless and poorly set out. A section "How to cope in the first 6 weeks" is in the back. To me. something like that should be somewhere in the front, or at least in the 6 week section.

Has anyone heard of or purchases this book "The Nappy Bag Book"

?

Birth Skills - Juju Sundin/Sarah Murdoch
I have recently purchased this and I have just started reading it, but so far I think it's great. There is lots of practical advice with photos to demonstrate

I've just about finished a Labour of Love - (thanks Bella Angel for the loan!) and it is a brilliant read. I feel so much more confident going into labour now... I wish I had read this before Jordan was born!!

Baby Love by Robin Barker - fantastic book, especially dealing with breast/bottle feeding, sleeping, nappies etc.

A friend has a tradition of giving it to all her friends who are expecting & I got it last week. It has some great help and advice.

I am reading Up The Duff at the moment and whilst it's funny, I am not finding it particuarly useful at all.

The funniest thing is that she says she wrote the book because she read so many conflicting things when she was pregnant, but I have read a couple of books and done research on the net, and everything has been consistent so far except for her book. So I'll keep on reading it for the humour but am not taking on board anything much that she says.

I have read a book which I absolutely SWEAR by but can't think of the name of it at the moment. I'll have a look tonight and put it in here tomorrow smile.gif

JPD: Don't know if you are still interested, but one of the girls at my work (I work at a bookshop) read 'How to Afford a Baby' and said that it was increadibly useful.

A NOTE TO ANYONE BUYING PREGNANCY BOOKS: If you are going to buy pregnancy or baby book from a bookshop be sure to check that you get the newest edition (not just what the worker gives you). At my work we still have copies of the older editions of some titles like "Up the Duff" and the Miriam Stoppard books, but my manager can't return them and is telling us to give them to anyone who asks for the book even though we have the new editions available :S . If getting an older edition doesn't bother you, then ignore this- but if you are paying the same price you would probably be best of getting the new edition. (The new edition for 'Up the Duff'is purple and yellow)

I have just bought the updated Australian version of Conception Pregnancy and Birth by Dr Miriam Stoppard and swore to myself I would only buy one baby book (as I'm sure too many will send me batty) but by the looks Baby Love might be worthwhile too...

Pregnancy magazines on the other hand... hmm... OK so it is just for the pictures.

I have Up the Duff and its ok. Not the most informative but amusing at times.

I bought Birth (cant remember who its by) from a fellow Idoer and it is by far my favourite. Gets right to the point and has lots of information and is well layed out in the book.

I also have What to Expect when You Are Expecting, just cant get into it for some reason. I have noticed a few things seem outdated. And the picture on the front annoys me laugh.gif Its like Grandma is sitting there about to start knitting.

I also liked Breastfeeders anonymous by Rachel Blair, found it very imformative.

Save Our Sleep by Tizzie Hall!!! biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif
We call it the bible. We had a lot of other books given to us, but I found this one so handy and I still pick it up and read regularly to keep my routine on track. We totally attribute Joe sleeping trough from 8 weeks old to her routines.

I have Up the Duff and yes it is funny at times, but I did not find it very informative.
