I got nothing.... quite disappointed actually. We had the travel agent indicate on all our travel bookings that we were honeymooners, but they didn't give us any freebies!

Oh well... we had a great time anyway!

It will be interesting to see what comes up! I very much doubt people get flights upgraded as they are honeymooners when there are CIP's or frequent fliers waiting for upgrades.

So I don't think that you can expect freebies (which makes them nice surprises!).

We booked business class to our destination wedding as being easter the chances of an on departure upgrade are pretty slim. I also don't think the resort will be going out of the way for us as they weddings every day of the year.

Ooh, we got lots!

1) Our first hotel room on our honeymoon was in New York where the rooms are tiny, and the lovely guy at reception upgraded us to a huge room which was just lovely.

2) We were upgraded to first class on a flight from Vancouver to San Francisco. It wasn't a big plane so first class just meant that the seats were bigger and we got to choose our meal. It was great though. We felt very special!

And for the exciting finale....

Our flight home from LA to Sydney was overbooked and we weren't even able to sit next to each other on the plane sad.gif (14hr flight). So they told us some people would be asked to give up their seats on the plane in return for a night in an airport hotel, US$600 worth of travel vouchers each and a business class flight home on the same flight the next night. So they asked us if we would like to take up that offer - so OF COURSE we did!!

3) We flew home the next day after a great day at Santa Monica and Venice beach, in business class, where the lovely extremely gay flight attendant wanted to hear every detail of the wedding, and he gave us a bottle of french champagne to smuggle into our bags as his gift to us. And we still have $US1200 to spend on flights whenever we want.

Not bad, not bad at all! tongue.gif

We got 5 nights free in our second hotel (they are trying to get people back after the tsunami) We got free fruit on arrival. Free cocktail on arrival at both hotels. Free transfers from hotel to hotel and then from hotel to airport. Free massage for us both. Free honeymoon cake but we didn't eat it. We were (or I was) supposed to get a free Thai cooking class but it never happened. Our hotel also provided a free bus to and from town which saved us lots.

On the airline we got a free sick bag and that was it. They told us they didn't upgrade but were happy to tak $700 each off us to upgrade us. We tried to drink $700 worth of alcohol on the plane but only managed 2 drinks each.

* Our honeymoon suite was upgraded free of charge with a late checkout. They also put a bottle of champagne and strawberries in our room.

* In Vanuatu, our room was filled with flowers and a bottle of champagne.

* We had a complimentary meal one night at the hotels restaurant.

* One night, the restaurant was really quiet (we were the only ones there) so the chefs decided to try out some new dessert recipes which we got to taste test smile.gif

* The resort gave us a polo shirt each and they are so comfy, I wear them everywhere.

We're hoping to get something like this, in a couple of brochures we have picked up on either mauritius or the maldives a lot of places have 50% off the cost of the brides room or something like that, which would help dramatically in the price, which would make it more likely that we can go there.

Not bad at all! Although its probably worth noting that the upgrade is a benefit of being bumped from the flight not a honeymoon benefit!

Great that they plied you with champagne though!

A few years ago I had a round the world business class ticket and was on my way home to Sydney from Munich. At Munich aiport the BA check in agent would only give us an economy seat and it was only after a huge stinking argument that I got the seat I paid for. Once onboard I told the FA what had happened so he started plying us with champagne. He was also tucking bottles into every spot in my carryon that they would possibly fit. Explained (slurred?) to him that I couldn't drink any more champagne as I would be too drrrruuuuunnnkkk and they would not let me board my Sydney flight.

So he wrote me a note to give to the next crew explaning that I was ok to fly and got me a wheelchair!

hilerious.!! haha

Considering we went to the Greek Islands and everything is soooo expensive there, we were upgraded to honeymoon suites each time.! thank god because I did see one of the rooms we paid for and it was crap..

Pity about the plane though.. We were sardines all the way.!

We got a few...(We made sure we told EVERYONE who would listen we were on our honeymoon!! We were that excited!)

Mainly hotels, like in Stockholm we got told in check-in we had been upgraded to one of the best suites in the hotel, it was beautiful...

We also stayed at 3 Hilton Hotels in Europe and were upgraded to King Suites, free champagne and fruit on arrival with rose petals all on the bed.

We were told that the bigger hotel chains (Hilton, Hyatt etc) do this for you.

My happy little boy!

Our suite was upgraded froma garden room to a room with a view of the beach.

We got a basket of fresh fruit on arrival.

All our flights were really really full, but we ended up with the only spare seat next to us each leg.

We got soooo much form the flight attendants on one leg. They just kept bringing us wine and nuts etc. They were loads of fun.

We didnt get much for free really, but we had lots and lots of fun and people were very very nice to us.

Ohyeah, just remembered, we got a free mini bottle of soethign or other when we bought somethig duty free. The lady noticed our rings were all shiny and new so slipped us a little present in our bag ...

Depends where you are going a bit too.

We went to the Maldives, not suprisingly there was a very high number of other honeymooners going there too.

For our flight there, DESPITE specifically mentioning 'honey moon' and 'seat couple together' AND checking in {at in town check in} 15 hours before the flight we were not even assigned seats together!!! ohmy.gif
Naturally we made a fuss, but it was one of those planes that has a seating configuration of 3 /3 / 3 {to the Maldives... twits!} so obvioulsy no one was prepared to move so we could sit together as they were ALL couples on the plane!

The crew did make it up to us holding a little champagne party just for us at the back of the plane, and making sure our seats on the way back were good ones.

Our first 'honeymoon' was when we weren't even married yet (sounds weird, we went to Singapore for our 6 year anniversary and decided that would be our 'honeymoon', we did it all backwards - wedding at the engagement party, bucks night after the wedding LOL) and we got nothing at all, even though we told people we were honeymooners! We did get a fantastic seat at the highest restaurant in Singapore, though smile.gif

Our second, after-the-wedding honeymoon was just a weekend in Margaret River, hubby booked it for a weekend and it turned out I couldn't go, he went to reschedule for the weekend after. It was a public holiday and they wanted to charge a surcharge, but they waived it when he said it was our honeymoon! That's the extent of our freebies..
