We have a rough draft of what we where we want to go on our Thailand & Malaysia honeymoon but i'm not sure if we've allocated too much time in one place, and not enough in the another. Can you look at this and let me know if you think it's too jam packed and that we'll be moving around too much?

Thailand

Bangkok x 2 nights
Phuket x 3 nights
Phi Phi x 2 nights
Koh Samui x 4 nights

Malaysia

Kuala Lumpur x 2 nights
Penang x 2 nights
Langkawi x 3 nights
Sabah x 3 nights <----- should we bother with Sabah? we want to see the Orangutans though, can this be done as a day trip of KL or something?

Thanks guys any advice appreciated

xx

Personally, I think you are trying to cram too much in. I don't think getting from Phuket to Koh Samui is that easy (I know you have Phi Phi in between, but I *think* you have to go back to Phuket to then get to Koh Samui). How are you getting around to all of these places? If flying, then ok, but if taking train or whatever, a lot of your honeymoon time is going to be taken up by travelling.

For us, we wanted to stay in one place for as long as possible, just totally relax, have our bags spread everywhere and not have to worry about packing up every couple of nights.

Maybe you could do one country or the other? and then you could spend a few more days in each. Have you been to Bangkok and KL before? I personally hated Bangkok and we only spent one day there. I think they would be very similar, but if you are doing it for teh shopping then that is probably ok. But spread it out a bit more or prioritise what you really want to see. Is your travel agent arranging internal tranfers or are you doing it yourself?

Thanks for your reply Lauren, thats exactly what i wanted to know, whether we were trying to do too much.

We have never been to either places before (well i was born in Thailand but left when i was 1, does that count? tongue.gif)

We want to do both so i guess we should pick the places we want to do most.

We are booking our flights and transfers with the travel agent but will book the accomodation ourselves. We've done the research and we're saving $400 just by doing so! Hopefully the agent can match the price...

I've heard Phi Phi can be done with a day trip from Phuket, maybe we should do that then.

Ok, back to the drawing board...

Ermmm, nope! Dont think you can go from KL to Orangutangs in a day trip. They're a long way apart! You'd fly into Kota Kinabalu and then have to get another plane out to Sandakan (or bus it, 6 hours) and then all the way back to KL so I dont think it's a feasible option. Nothing is impossible but I'd give it more time on another trip smile.gif

OR instead of KL which I took to mean Kuala Lumpur did you mean KK, Kota Kinabalu? In which case it's possible but still a hardcore thing to do in a day.

Personally, for me there is nothing worse than being on holidays and going from one hotel to another, unpacking and repacking your bags, checking in and checking out of hotels, carrying bags etc - I find that's how you spend the majority of your time!

I'd love to go to all those places though... I guess I'd just prefer to stay in the one place a bit longer...

Bangkok x 2 nights
Phuket x 5 nights
Koh Samui x 5 nights

Malaysia

Kuala Lumpur x 2 nights
Langkawi x 5 nights

you might have to stay in phuket one night as i think the ferry only goes once per day earlyish in the morning. i think one night in phuket is worthwhile though, just to experience the seediness!!

personally i'd be cutting down kl and bangkok to one night each. i have spent a night in each and felt that it was enough - but hey, i'm a real lie by the pool kinda gal.

No, not too full on. I think when you are staying more than one night in one place you can relax more. I would not recomment having to move to a new place every night. What you have suggested is a good mix of relaxation and adventure to still get around.

I think it's better, I agree with Rachelle and would not stay in Bangkok or KL longer than necessary.

Phi Phi is apparently beautiful (I see you have cut it out) but the beach is apparently full of backpackers

Thanks for all the input guys, we have just realised that there are specials going around during our time which means if we stay for 5 nights we get an extra 5 nights free! So the itinerary will be shuffled again a little.

Lauren we did take Phi Phi out but we were told we can easily do day trips there from Phuket so we are definetly still going!

Yeah, Thailand is unbelievable value. Just be careful though because some of of those deals are only on basic room types
