QUOTE (heairo @ Mar 20 2006, 11:53 AM)
We are in the lagoon deluxe suites.

I just was on the phone to them this morning checking that nothing bad happened to them from the cyclone. I felt awful checking my honeymoon would go well when all these people have lost so much, and the affects will last forever. But the girl assured me I wasn't the only one!

That will be nice. It is a bit quieter down that end.

I have been to daydream island and the one resort takes up a good part of the island so you feel you have the island all to yourself - plus maybe sharing it with the odd couple or two of course.

We got married on Hamilton and stayed for 5 nights and loved it. All out guests did too. We didnt find it overpriced (accomodation can be if you don't shop around though). This island seems to have the most to do, however tends to be busier than the others.

We then went to Peppers Palm Bay for 3 nights (mini bungalows on the beach, five star dining, no kids........peeerrrfect). We loved it here as it is casual, romantic and just the loveliest experience for a few days of rest after the big day. I would soo love to go back.

We then went to Hayman for 3 nights too but found it overpriced and a bit run down. It is one of the more exclusive islands but you definaltey need to be prepared to spend if you go there. It wasnt my cup of tea but i know alot of people rave about it and have a great time.

It is such a beautiful part of the world i am sure you will find somewhere perfect.
There are a few websites that have more information too on all the islands.
Also check trip advisor as there is quite alot of feedback on all the islands.

We went to Daydream Island in the first week of feb and had perfect weather. Got a bit windy on the last day, but that was about it. While it is a "commercial" island, as melissah has pointed out, the one resort took up the entire island so you felt kind of secluded. They have activity sheets every day with things to do if you want to join in, or you can book things like trips out to the reef for snorkelling, picnic lunches on whitehaven beach (we did this - went by helicopter, and we were the only people on the entire beach!). The best thing about going in feb is that the school holidays are over and the island is not that busy. Also, when we were looking, daydream was so reasonably priced.

I think if you decide to go up there, you will enjoy anywhere you go. It is absolutely beautiful up there.

I agree with Jodes, we also went to Daydream. It was really secluded and quiet.. Best part.. there is a bar IN the pool and they make the best cocktails!! Found myself drinking one only to look at my watch and see it was 10.30am!!! Im such a drunk... lol
If you go to Daydream though make sure you get breakfast included.. We didnt and it cost us 30 dollars every morning for breakfast.. Im not a big eater so it was a waste of money.
We went there at the end of Feb and got tropical storms for 3 days we were there.. But the weather had apparently been lovely the weeks before so you will be lucky if its like that.. It was still hot though..
Definatley go to Whitehaven beach! We did an ocean rafting day on the North end and got to see alot of the islands from the boat. It was so much fun!! Its high speed and you get a real adrenelin rush! Stopped over at Whitehaven for lunch (all supplied) and did a bit of snorkelling on Dumbell Island which was amazing.. All this was included in the Ocean Rafting for about 60 dollars I think per person. They pick up from Daydream and Airley Beach. If you want to see Whitehaven I think thats the way to go because you get a few extra things thrown in.

Our trip from Melbourne for the two of us including air fares boat transfers and 5 nights accomodation cost us about 1500 dollars.. Which I think is very reasonable.. Meals are ok. Some restaurants are expensive but the Fishbowl tavern is pub style meals and open most nights.. But hey its your honeymoon and hopefully you will only do it once!!

Hope that helps!

We also went to daydream and loved every minute we were there. We also spent alot of our time in the pool bar. I also loved all the rock pools it was nice to walk around there.

We also stayed at South Molle, While this wasn't a 5 star resort at all we found it very relaxing and there are heaps of walks you can do. We were able to get away from the crowds and have one on one time.

We just got back from our wedding honeymoon in the Whitsundays. We rented an awesome house in Airlie Beach (the mainland) to start with and then went to Daydream which was fabulous. It was nice and quiet, the cocktails at the pool bar were great and the weather was hot! I agree with Foxxx though, get breakfast incl if you go there!

Things to do that I recommend:

Ocean rafting or a sailing trip (We went on Camira which had free alcohol and food YAY!)

Jet-skiing - very fun!

Skydiving - the highest in Oz! Sure makes it a trip to remember!

Whitehaven Beach and Hills Inlet - do both so you get to spend time on the beach as well as the see the awesome view from the lookout over Hills Inlet

Have a great time!
