- Come up to Narrabeen beach instead (a couple of beaches north of DY), you can park for free in the street. smile.gif

- Borrow a surfboard or a kayak or similar from friends.

- Browse the web for ideas for whatever your latest interest is - mine have included renovating, decorating, cooking and most recently jewellery shopping (though the latter can be very expensive!).

- Have a bbq with friends, or even a bbq at a park somewhere (Palm Beach has a great area on the Pittwater side, or jump on the ferry to the Basin for just a few $)...

H2b and I are saving every dollar we have and putting it towards our wedding and honeymoon. So we too are trying to do things that don’t cost money – or not much money.

This is what we are doing to occupy our time

* playing board games with friends or just us.
* Playing cards
* watching Dvds in our collection
* I scrapbook whilst h2b plays xbox
* do puzzles / crosswords
* do the jobs around the house you have put off for ever – mine was going through the 3 wardrobes of clothes that I have – and going through all of my shoes and donating the ones I don’t want
*Going for a bike rides
* Going for swims
* Going for walks
* picnic in the parks
* another thing we do to pass time is …….. well you know! wub.gif

Amy that's great to know that Narabeen is free - is it much further from Dee Why? (we go just past Dee Why, at the top of the hill if that makes sense)?

I love all these ideas - I can't believe I didn't think of them but it's great to brainstorm...

this weekend (apart from the saturday members meeting) I'm hoping we can go for a bit of a drive - I've never been south like towards um... what's down there ... south coast area somewhereabouts?

Anyway I love getting out on the open road - any other recommendations to take a dog?

Leisa, if you're going south I absolutely LOVE Kiama. it'll probably take about 90 minutes or 2 hours, and it's beautiful.

If you want to go a bit further there's Jervis Bay (Gemma can tell you all about it) or Berry. If you're into crafty things, Berry is great but may not be good with the whole trying to save money thing!

PMSL!!!

She's right, it's not that exciting. But it's a lovely part of the world.

How much is Jamberoo nowadays? That could be fun as well.

We just went camping down south this weekend. $70 a person including food/alcohol/accomodation for 2 nights! That's pretty good! We enjoyed the beach and just sitting around chatting with friends. Our campsite allowed dogs too.

Kiama was nice except our car got pooped on!

We also visited the Nan Tien temple at Wollongong. I've been there before but I love it. We took photos of the lotus pond and just sat enjoying the peacefulness. Its free too.

There's always the Bay walk, orange grove markets, rozelle markets, free events held in Darling Harbour - check out the Sydney city council website, picnics at all the parks in Balmain/Leichhardt. Catch a train out to a suburb you've never been too before - eg Cabramatta and just soak in the interesting culture. Chinatown is always fun for a bit of wander, always something funny happening. That's what I like to do anyway. We also waste a lot of time on the Internet which is relatively cheap.

I just go to the gym and do a couple classes. Its money I would have to pay anyway, and it gets me fitter, without spending extra money.

Narrabeen beach (well, Collaroy-Narrabeen beach) is the next one past DY-Long Reef. It sounds like you've been parking at the Long Reef end of DY beach? Drive about 2 mins further north, Collaroy is on the north side of the Long Reef golf course, although there's not too much parking around there.

Keep driving north for about 5 mins, turn right into Ocean St, and there's free parking the whole way along the beach from South Narrabeen to North Narrabeen (a famous surf spot). Shhhh, don't tell anyone or I'll have no where to park... wink.gif If you make it as far as North Narrabeen, that's where we live. smile.gif

Leisa (hoping you agree Amy!), Collaroy and Narrabeen beaches, IMO are much nicer than Dee Why anyway....

smile.gif It's nice on the Central Coast most of our beaches are free - and Nick's parents live 5 mins walk from Shelly Beach anyway!

This post has been really helpful for me too, we're poor!

We're going to the auctions this weekend (Hubby is yet to be informed of this, although we have discussed it laugh.gif) to look at timber for our deck. Doesn't sound very exciting, but it will be for me because things will finally start HAPPENING!! biggrin.gif

We'll have to pool our resources together Leisa and find free places to take the dogs. We're always trying to find places we can take for for a romp.
