QUOTE (allure @ Jan 22 2006, 12:30 PM)
I wouldn't consider allowing silk flowers to pass my front door. I despise the look of them. I just think they look like cheap decorating not to mention dust collectors. For that reason there is no way I'd have them in my bridal bouquet.

I would also only consider real flowers - I just like real things, even if they aren't as perfect. I love the smell of roses and bouvardia, which is what I'm having - so it wasn't a big decision for me.

However, I think we need to be careful about how we express our opinions. Many people on this forum have obviously chosen to have silk flowers and comments such as "I wouldn't consider allowing silk flowers to pass my front door " I think are insensitive to people who are excitied about their choice of silk flowers. Obviously, everyone has a right to express their opinion but I also think we need to be careful not to get stuck into other peoples' choices.

Out of curiosity for those of you keeping your silk wedding bouquet...what do you do with them?

Several thoughts of mine:

- Put them on my pop's grave;

- Use them as decoration in the house;

- Put them in the buffet;

- As a centrepiece on our coffee table it is a small enough posy to look nice. smile.gif

Those are my thoughts for now.. wink.gif

I understand your point of view Laurette darl, but I started this thread to get advise and input from other silk flower brides. It's a smidgen annoying to have people saythat they are totally against silk flowers in general when that's not the point of this thread.

Not only is it annoying, it is quite hurtful when you think about it, considering it was not relevant to the thread whether or not someone likes silk

Also, makes me wonder now - whether the people who voted "Definatley" in the poll (as in they definatley regret having silk flowers) were ACTUAL SILK FLOWER BRIDES (which was the point of the poll), and not just people totally against having silk and wanting to give their opinion about it.

It's a little strange since all the responses from true silk brides have been so positive......hmmmmm......

Exactly Row, if I was still undecided it would not have helped me at all! I really want to know if there are any brides out there that had silk flowers and regretted it and why they regretted it.

But anyway, Sue's locked in now biggrin.gif

I am considering having some silk flowers added into my bouquet. I did not think I would EVER even think about "fAKE" flowers, but I am getting married in January and I had my heart set on tulips. Every florist that I have spoken to has said "no way can you have them!". Even if they could get them they would blow open and droop after not too long. So my options are: add them in in silk with my other fresh flowers or not have them at all. I still havent made up my mind which way to go yet.

I had silk flowers and have absolutly no regrets!

user posted image

This is a picture of my flowers. On the day I was able to put them down without worrying about damaging their petals, and I didn't have to worry about them dying.

I was MOH at a wedding 3 weeks after my own. The bride used the same flowers as I did and by the time we got to the church they were dead and wilted. sad.gif

I was originally having real flowers, but as my florist friend headed overseas prior to my wedding she made me silks instead as she then kept her childhood promise of making my wedding flowers!
smile.gif

I wish I could keep them, but I have no where to store them. sad.gif I am going to sell them soon and hope someone can enjoy them as much as I did. smile.gif

I FINALLY picked up a piece of furniture I had on layby that is an old school buffet with the lead glass doors at the top - the PERFECT place to keep my bouquet!! you can kind of see the flowers through the glass and its out of the dust and somewhat on view.... I felt terrible having my flowers tucked away in a box so now I finally have them "on display"

I'm another Sue bride to be.

Price was a big factor for me as well as being allergic like some of the others here but by far the biggest factor for me was the fact I could have anything, any colour and I can fragrance them myself if I want to. I had real flowers the 1sttime I got married and did nothing but worry about them all nite.

So another vote for Silk!
