I'm tossing up between real and silk flowers at the moment and I'm leaning towards silk but thought I would find out if any of you regretted going with silk and if so why?

Great idea Megs... I am also trying to decide on either real or silk... Pity that not many people have replied... C'mon girls!

I havent recieved my silk flowers yet, but lately Ive been thinking how nice it would be to have beautiful fresh flowers on the day.

They both have pros and cons you just have to decide whats most important ie - keeping them afterwards etc

my little opinion is...I would never consider having silk flowers. I would much rather look back on my wedding day and say weren't my flowers absolutely gorgeous...and real...and just beautiful...

Silk flowers to me kinda defeat the purpose...BUT THATS JUST MY OPINION. I know there are people out there who love them and yes they look lovely. But just not the same to *me*...

Yes it can be expensive to have your flowers preserved but I found another option of having my bouquet freeze dried for only $60. A lot cheaper an it only takes 7 days to do.

I didnt vote cause i havent had my day yet so cant really regret anything but my two cents worth is im having silk. I want to keep mine and my choice of flowers dont last long so its the only way of guaranteing (sp) they stay looking good.

I dont think i will be missing out by having silk. This way i get to stand in front of the mirror with my flowers whenever i want!

These are the reasons why I chose silk:

- I wanted to be able to keep my bouquet, and I priced preserving a cascade bouquet and it was $800 I'd have to come up with on top of my florist prices.

- preserved flowers tend to look a little dry and brown and dont always look the same as they did when they were fresh, that and I'm not too keen on having dead flowers pressed in glass on my wall.

- I had a tough colour in my gown to match up and with silk I could match up colours myself and see ahead of time that it went to ease my mind

- I wanted flowers that werent in season at the time of my wedding, and all flowers are in season with silks

- I've seen real bouquets start to droop and look sad and sorry at the end of a hot day and I wanted mine still looking perfect

- silk was hundreds of dollars cheaper than real

As you can see from my photos they definately looked real and lots of people had no idea they were silk until we thanked our florist at the reception. I wouldnt have done it any other way.... sue definately deserved my business a lot more than all of those other stuffy florists around town.

With all Melaines reasons for her flowers, it proves a great option.

I however would of never of gone silk...it was so pretty having the vibrant pink lillies and white ones, and i just loved having all these fresh flowers around..

i don't think klay woulda appreicated me having ANOTHER momento as well..

I had silk and am glad that I did laugh.gif For me it was for a few reasons that I chose silk,

smile.gif I get bad hayfever, I had to take enough tables for the makeup and hair spray and everyone elses purfume.

smile.gif Frangipanis are not known for there life span and it was the end of April.

smile.gif And the best reason it was one less thing to worrry about on the day, I knew what my flowers looked like and I loved them. There was no waiting for a florist to arrive and wondering what they where going to look like.

No one has commented to me that I had silk flowers, prob the oposite there was a competion between guests at the reception to see who get the flowers first!!!! I did have about 5 large boxes full of flowers for decorating the venue I now have my flowers and a med box.

It is funny though I have been to our guests houses since the wedding and I have lost count of the number of them that have our wedding flowers on display laugh.gif

I am the same. I have a really sensitive nose and the amount of times I've sneezed simply by walking past someone with perfume or strong deodorant, hairspray, scented moisturiser on.. well.. yeah .. too many to count. sad.gif

I'm going with Sue too! smile.gif
