Hi. My h2b and I met this photographer at one of the bridal expos. We liked his work and the look of his albums. It was perfect... but they charge around $6K for the package we want. Is this a bit too much??? It is costing more than my budget for my dress, but the photos were excellent. Would like your advice. Thanks

I'd say hell yes.. but that's because we got a great package for under $2k.

It included 7hrs of photography (colour & BW)
Dry mounted Album (which has over 100 pics in it)
ALL of the pictures not featured in the album in a 6x4 format (not in an album)
Extra enlargements to be framed
PLUS the negatives

They advertise through I-Do to... www.leisurephotography.com.au

And I HIGHLY recommend them! I would use them again for other special events (ie: naming day for kids etc)

That is way too much. We are looking at a photographer which is only costing $2500ish. He will be there from start to finish and even doing a display of the location shots and getting ready shots during the reception.

It also depends on the time that you are getting and if you are getting more than 1 photographer. Personally I wouldnt pay that much, but I know other people that have.

We found our photographer on i-do. Peter Ryan from Cubist Photographics. Our package all-up will be about (or under) $2000 for all day photography (including night shots after the reception), fully-mounted album with at least 20 enlargements and as many small size as we want, all negatives, all photos taken on the day (300+ photos) etc.. etc..

He is just fantastic and we are so happy to have got him! biggrin.gif

We shopped around for ages to find someone who did excellent photography (he is also a photographer for a living - not just weekends!) but who didn't have the enormous price tag.

Cheers,
Susie

Annabel,

You're not really allowed to advertise any wedding related services on these forums unless you're paying to advertise through I-Do.

Just thought I'd give you the heads up before you get growled at.

That's a lot more than I'd be willing to pay, but I don't know how much you prioritise photos & what the package includes.

Our photography package for 8 hours includes:
- the photographer & his assistant (who arranges the dresses etc for shots)
- 360 photos in 5x7 prints + negatives + on cd (that's every shot taken)
- if we want extra photos it's only $60 per roll of 36 (shots taken, 5x7 prints, negs & cd)
- we get the negatives & digital copies so we can organise our own reprints/enlargements with no restrictions, all 2 weeks after the wedding

for $1350. We didn't want an album, they will give us a basic one with all the photos in it but we wanted to make our own.

Just a rough guide of what you can get for your money!

I'm with the girls - that is heaps for a photographer. I'm paying $1750 and that includes 8 hours of coverage, pre wedding photos, all his work is done digital so we get every picture taken on cd in both B&W and colour, wedding album with 17- pictures included and gst is included aswell. And he is a great photographer his work is amazing and being in digital he can do so much work to the photos!!!!!

$6k is a bit rich.

This is really creeping into the boutique photography market (from $5k to over $15k is pretty much boutique). The boutique market is all about show over substance - you don't get twice as good a job as a $3k wedding, but you do get to boast about how much your spending.

IMO, the best value for clients with wedding photography high on their list is in the $3-5k range. Solid, professional, discreet people who don't turn the whole thing into a show of money.

Anything under $2k - you generally won't find the quality or the volume, if you are discerning.
Anything over $5k - you've got more dollars than sense.

Dig a little deeper into the Sydney wedding photography scene and you'll find tremendous value from the non-brand name photographers...

I think you are probably paying too much.

Does it include video????

We are paying $2k for our video/DVD, but she comes highly reccommended and actually is a TV producer, so has lots of credentials.

Our Photography package is $3K. We are getting a good deal as reccommended by a friend. Whole day (as long as it takes) coverage from me getting ready to when drive off from the reception. 20 page album, all our photos on CD, another proof album 6x4 (approx 250 photos) 3 giant enlargement suitable for framing etc etc etc.

He did the photography for a friend wedding, PLUS when we interviewed him, I was laughing the whole itme, so I am sure he'll be able to make me smile on the day, more likely to like the photos if I look happy in them!!!

We are quite pleased with our package, Our firends photos were brilliant!.

PM if you'd like details.

Cheers,

Amanda

We are paying around $3k for our package however we're not having a videographer (just a friend with a handycam)! Photos were one of the most important things for me and seeing I have studied photography I'm also very picky biggrin.gif
Our photographer is fantastic, gorgeous quality images and the album itself is amazing. It's a work of art not just a photo album and it is all handmade. I would look around and see if there's anyone else you meets the quality of his work for a lower price, but at the end of the day it's the photos you will have as a reminder of the biggest day of your life!

Can I be rude and ask you which photographer you are using?

I do think that $6K is a bit rich.

I agree with Sepia. For me, it is about quality and you have to pay for that. It is a work of art for some people and I want my photos to be a priceless piece. The handmade albums are just divine!

I'm afraid that if I get a cheap deal, the quality is compromised.

I am still tossing up between a few photographers and trying to decide on the better package deal or the better quality for a higher price tag..... I'm looking at paying $2K - $3K.

You really can't put a price on it when you think about it. You only get one chance! (Well let's hope so anyway! LOL)

huh.gif Not in Sydney if you want a decent photographer, you will not find anyone under $1500 for a decent package. Personally I don't think I'd trust someone who only charges $900 in Sydney!

Don't feel bad, if you realllllly like them, and can afford it, why not. Scott and I are paying $6,000 for out photographer, with a videographer, from me getting ready, right through to the end of the reception when we leave. ($4,500 without video). We get our album, plus two complimentry parents albums (1/2 the size, but still stunning). B&W and Colours and panorama's plus free colour brushing/retouching onto the sepia photos for us. Mind you, this was the thing we decided to allow most for in our budget. In fact, we budgeted around our photographer once we'd picked them. We wanted some one decent and who we both fell in love with their work. You hear so many horror stories of girls paying cheap prices for their photographer, then forking out an extra couple of grand for the actual album or proofs and reprints. I didn't want to risk it!

My cousin spent just on $10,000 for her photographer in Sydney. I heard most girls for delux style packages in Sydney will pay between $4,500 - up to as much as $10,000 for a photographer!!! blink.gif

So don't feel bad. Perhaps shop around, but if you like them, and they are well worth the $6,000 and you can afford them in your budget, go for it!! A bit of possitive zen coming your way! wink.gif
