Waiting4thesun, we have decided to go on the sunlovers holiday package for 5 nights the week after our wedding. Which happens to be in 4 and a bit weeks blink.gif I'll get back to you as soon as I can with how it all went. It has been done up in the last 2 years Peaches, but it is very relaxed and is more of a family island resort. Which doesn't bother us one bit as we have booked the bungalow with the spa right on the beach front AWAY from every one else laugh.gif

So we are really looking forward to just relaxing and taking it all in..............

I went to South Molle for 6 nights in 2001. I had a great time....first time to an island and the staff were really nice (except for one girl, who kept greasing me off!)

The food was standard buffet style....the a-la-carte place was closed for renovations when I was there. The food wasnt fancy, and the dining room was a little seedy but it was fresh and plenty of variety (different themese every night)

They have activities every night....a band...a bunch of polynesian fireworks and dancers, trivia night, talent quest, and a show put on by the staff

I went in October and it was really hot! By 9am it was 30 degrees and i was lazing by the pool!

There were quite a few people that go there for a day trip...people from airlie beach etc and i found that a little rude...as at the time the pool (there is only 1) got quite full.

Our room wasnt a beach one, and it was basic...very hot...and small. But i didnt spend a lot of time in there.

This is more of an island for singles or families....or older couples.
There was no eftpos when we went, but i am sure they have it by now.
No in room internet connection, but a computer in the games room that you pay to use.
One beauty salon and one small general store.

Hope this all helps!

Did anyone see the segment on a current affair last night about South Molle Island??

WHAT DID THEY SAY?
WAS IT BAD?
DID YOU BELIEVE THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE PLACE??

We've booked to go there for our honeymoon.. and this morning we had every family member call us to ask if we had seen A current affair last night..

Apparently the hotel/island has got really REALLY run down..

Huge rats
Rude staff
Cracked toilets
Dirty sheets/linen

etc etc etc etc

I am a little spooked..

It is no huge problem.. we are flying into proserpine.. and can easily change our honeymoon from one island to another..

But i am a little worried all the same.. I know that happy storys dont sell with the media.. its got to be shocking.. drama etc etc..

Can anyone tell me what happened? Or what was said/shown on the segment..??

I'm thinking we might be kissing our deposit goodbye and finding somewhere else..

I can't wait for claire to get back from her honeymoon on South Molle.. then we can get an updated.. recent idea of the island..

It just feels like such a shame.. We liked the website.. the photographs we were shown.. and the listed activities..

*shaker her head...

I'm not sure what to do now..

HURRY BACK CLAIRE!! tongue.gif

I wouldn't worry about the no eft pos. You just charge it to your room and pay all at once which I am sure I paid be eft pos.

How long are you going for?

I know people said that the resort has been renovated since I was there (for a work trip) a couple of years ago, but I saw that story on ACA last night and it looked about the same when I was there. Pretty bad by my standards sad.gif

I wouldn't go there for my honeymoon, unless I was a very, very laidback person!

Ok I'm Back!!!

First things first, South Molle Island is NOT a 5 star island by any means. We booked a beachcomber room which I recommend, it was away from all the other rooms and is a seperate cabin with a spa. Ours was the very last cabin along the beach and was nestled in amongst coconuts and palms and was RIGHT on the beach. It had a small verandah with a few chairs and a coffee table where we sat and sipped cocktails from the bar (highly recommend the Space Coyboy!! wink.gif ) and watched the tropical fish swimming in the crystal clear water, right infront of our cabin.

The food could not be faulted, each night was a different theme, however they accommodated for those who didn't fancy the theme for the night. Monday was chinese, Tuesday was Italian, Wednesday was Aussie BBQ, Thursday was Mexican and Friday was the seafood buffet.

All meals were fresh with heaps of choices and variety. This was the standard for all meals during the day.

Tuesday night we had our romantic dinner on the jetty, which was 4 courses in total, and all very sumptuous as we (well really just me actually) sipped on wine and watched the sun go down over the ocean!!

Wednesday we did our sunset cruise, which was breath taking!! Lasted about 2 and a bit hours as we (I) sipped on champaign, Joe drinks beer and there was plenty of that!! And nibbled on platters of assorted goodies!!

Thursday we went to whitehaven beach on a Mxi Yacht which use to race in the Sydney to Hobart, which was heaps fun!! We cruised around all the islands and eventually came to rest at whitehaven, where we had a picnic lunch and swan in the clear blue water and played beach cricket until it was time to board the yacht again to come home.

Friday we aranged to have our pinic lunch and planned to walk to the next beach and eat it there, but got lazy and sat on our verandah and sipped more cocktails and watched the world go by...

We snorkled right off the beach when ever we got the chance, with heaps of coral and fish to see and the odd stingray and crayfish!! We went out on the paddle boards in the morning for the fish feeding, where you can hand feed Bat fish bits of bread (they have not teeth, just sort of suck it in!!) and pat them as they go past. Lots of differnt fish to see of all different colours.

There were a few people there who complained alot, about not having enough towels and such but we found the staff to be super friendly and willing to grant your every need, all you have to do is ask!!

It is an old resort and not very glamourous, but it's as good as you're prepaired to make it. The rooms are basic but neat and tidy. And for some strange reason, all we got on TV was Imparja (which is a NT TV station???) ABC and a fuzzy 7, but we didn't do alot of TV watching wink.gif

It was exactly what we needed after the stress of the wedding, just to relax and wind down for a while. We made some great friends and both of us were sad to come home.... We WILL be going back!!!

It all depends what you expect out of your honeymoon, if you are expecting to be waited on hand and foot, in the lap of luxuary go some where else!! If your easy going to looking to relax, I reccommend here!!

Sorry it's abit long Oh and we didn't see the ACA report about the island, but give me a camera and I'll show you the bad side of just about any thing!! Just relax and take it all in.....

Congrats on getting married Claire, and thank you so much for taking the time to come back to us to fill us in on South Molle. I'm going there in 4 weeks exactly (YAY!).

We're looking to just relax and be together as husband and wife. You sound like you had a wonderful time. And by the sounds of it, we've chosen the same package (similar room, jetty dinner and cruise). Great to hear you had a fantasic time. smile.gif

I literally just got back from the whitsundays on saturday night.

South Molle is lovely, but i think its rated slightly lower, maybe 3 star or something but its fine. Its great if your into bushwalking type stuff.

We spent a day on daydream & the food was incredible, if your only going for 5 nights, i'd recommend Daydream.

We just spent 5 nights in Airlie Beach at a lovely resort & we paid 4 nights, got one free. We did daytrips to different islands & the reef & it was fantastic. You'll have a lovely time up there & 5 nights is the perfect amount of time, we thought any longer than we were, we probably would have started to get bored.

PM me if you want any specific details of things we did, prices etc...we literally were there last week.

We went to South Molle for our honeymoon.. and it was AWESOME..

Five day romance package..

1 - Sunset three course jetty dinner (included in accomadation package)
2 - Day cruise out to the reef (we organised this beforehand)
3 - Picnic lunch which we took on our walks around the gourgous island walking tracks (packed lunch all included)
4 - Day cruise on Camira (included with accomadation package)
5 - Sunset cruise with all alcohol and nibbles included (included with our accomadation package)

We also had birds sitting on our table beside the bar.. trying to drink our cocktails.. and being EXTRA cute and friendly..

Look in my yahoo website for honeymoon photographs (and wedding shots)

*Staff were really friendly..
*Meals were exactly what you wanted after a hard day of lazing around the pool..
*Execellent cocktail selection.. FOUR different levels/types of cocktail menus..
*9hole golf course on the island.. so you can grab a cocktail and much around playing in the 'south molle championship'
*Lots and lots of walking tracks around the island. We went on a 2km walk. You dont even notice how high your climbing.. Saw bat's asleep in the trees.. ant's building weird leaf nests in the trees.. native birdlife.. EXCELLENT views of the entire island.. lots of secluded places to sunbake, laugh, fondle.. (grin) and if you team your walk/exploration with your picnic lunch you can leave in the morning and return back in time for the 3pm bird feeding.
*Yep.. bird feeding.. we had hundreds.. YES.. HUNDREDS of colourful birds flying around us.. and landing on our hands.. shoulders.. and heads.. You might think you have seen bird feedings... maybe at currumbin.. or somewhere.. but this was INCREDIBLE.. the birds were soo soo friendly.. and cheeky... (look in my yahoo for some photos)
*I strongly suggest getting a beachcomber room.. they are right on the beach.. and each one has a spa along one wall of the room.. My husband and I had a fabulous time curled up in there blowing bubbles at one another.. and you look out over an incredible view.. of your room.. or if the curtain is open the beach..
*10am fish feeding.. they have about 20 bat fish (look like giant discus) which come and swim around the side of the main jetty every day.. you can snorkal in the water with them. there are also colorful parrot fish which swim about.. We really wanted to snorkal with them.. but we always seemed to be doing something else.

I'll add more as i add more photographs

but most importantly.. It was a fabulous choice..

Less then $2000 for a week for BOTH of us..

Which is ALL meals..
Two cruises..
Sunset jetty dinner
Picnic lunch
Walking tracks
Excellent staff (many are international.. so lots of interesting stories to tell)
