QUOTE (Amy K @ Jun 2 2004, 01:34 PM)
I'm after white tulips - but in summer, in Sydney, silk seems the only way to get them!

LF quoted me $297 for the bridal bouquet of tulips with a "collar" of gardenias - apparently it'd be cheaper without the gardenias. I have no idea whether that's reasonable, but adding $77 each for 4 bridesmaids' bouquets + corsages etc...

I'd really like to do them myself though so I might keep looking to buy them by the stem as Alex suggested.

Were you happy with your quote Natasha?

smile.gif

Oh My lordy!!!

Almost THREE HUNDRED dollars for ONE bouquet!! ohmy.gif

I don't know whether it's just me, wink.gif but who do these people think they are??? blink.gif

They are working with silk flowers, so they are not working against the clock, and the quality of silk flowers is consistent, so there are no 'bad' flowers or wastage.

That seems rediculous. For three hundred dollars I would expect the whole lot (bridal, plus BMs, plus corsages buttonholes) in fresh flowers, but maybe that's just me, tongue.gif I can't stand being over charged for stuff. dry.gif

I thought the same, Alex! That's why I asked for your wholesale recommendation - I always wanted to do them myself anyway. smile.gif

Apparently gardenias are particularly expensive - even so...!

Yeah, that sounds pricey to me! White tulips sound lovely. They would look quite elegant on their own.

I haven't sought a quote yet, as I haven't sorted out my BM's dress colour yet. I am interested to compare the cost of silk to the real thing. I also have to find out where you can get great stems, so you can make it yourself... if you know of any, please PM them to me! I did a Google search, but didn't really find anything useful.

OK, I've just checked out what they are listed under in the yellow pages.

Depending on what area you are in... look in you local yellow pages

under Artificial Plants and Flowers OR Florists - Wholesale OR Florists Supplies

You should find at least ONE place.

i found the net was pretty sparse when it somes to silk flowers. I did send you that reccommendation didn't I??

After many weeks of searching the net I found a site that may help you.
I am still waiting for my price lists to turn up so Im really not sure of the costs yet but their range is great.
Everything from tulips to frangipanis.
If you want the address Pm me.
Melinda smile.gif
Ps, it is not the site that is most common. They sell wedding things and wholesale silk flowers.

Can someone PM the websites? I am really interested in silk flowers.

Has any one looked at comparisons between silk and fresh flowers? I have no idea about flowers.

OK... I guess I need the info as well as everyone else in here.... I know about LF and she is local to me but havent been to check it out yet... My dilemma is that we are getting married the day before Mothers Day... And so many florists will not do weddings that weekend... So I want to look at silks although I do know one florist that only does weddings and she is happy to do it but very big $$$$$$.... SO I want to look at silks....

Also has anyone heard of/ seen latex frangipanis????

I have just been to a silk flower company in Brsbane (Toowong) that also deals online, and their flowers are just to die for. I really loved the lady and the flowers look so real. I loved the fact that they scent their flowers (and you can pick which scent you want). For fresh the cheapest I was quoted was $648, I just ordered online and it is $257 for me, 4 bm, 7 buttonholes, 2 corsages. I also like the part where they will put a safety clasp on the buttonholes if they are for children.

Anyway PM me if you want the internet link.
Sorry for any typos, I have a dislocated shoulder nerve.

In order not to clutter up the place with a new thread...

Could you guys PM me a few of these suggestions? I'm Sydney too, and both my BMs have spectacular allergies so I'm going with silk.

Thanks in advance,

J
