Hi Everyone,
I need some advice. I am starting to plan our wedding stationary and I have gotten a few quotes. I am not good with my hands and do not want to spend weeks, days etc of my engagement worrying about stationary!!! So I have been leaning all the way towards having our stationary fully made and printed for us. The quotes are all around the $1000 mark and although the stationary has all been lovely, I am having trouble parting with this sort of cash (although it is within our budget as my fiance reassures me). We need 70 invitations, 70 Order of Service Booklets and 95 Place Cards.
The way I am trying to justify it is that we're already paying so much for anything else associated with the wedding, for example cars as I am sure you've all found out cost a fortune!!! So we should just go ahead and get the stationary for $1000?
My future sister in law took me to a DIY shop on Saturday and I was feeling sick because I just know I cannot make the invitations we want myself, they will take me forever and look bodgy.
My fiance wants me to order whatever stationary I want, however I am having trouble justifying this for stationary...

First of all, welcome to i-do! smile.gif

There are ways of making your own stationeries without having it all DIY... yet save on printing costs! Some ideas for you:

Get pre-cut materials - for my invites, I had pre-cut and assembled DL sized victorian coordinates (so DL card and matching "envelope")

Get your inserts printed at printing companies such as Snap, Kwik Kopy etc. (so all you have to do is to assemble it)

If you don't want to have any DIY at all, visit smaller invite/printing companies... or even small graphic designing companies. Whereabouts are you?

Hey there. Welcome!!!

When we were doing our stationery, we ended up going through a company that not only does the printing, but can just send you the stuff, pre-cut, so all you have to do is print and assemble.

Much less fussy than completely DIY, but much cheaper than having someone else do it.

We did a bit of precut and a bit of us doing everything, it was about the $3-400 mark.

We did ours ourselves Debbie and I don't mind saying that they looked brilliant!!! We got asked who our stationer was!!

We printed the inside vellum ourselves on a friends laser printer and had the outside card professionally printed! It cost us less than $100 for the printing and we had about 130 invites printed with gold wording (more expensive than blue or green for example). The inside vellum was bought from a stationary supply shop who cut it to size for us and the cards we bought pre-cut with envelopes from a craft store. All we had to do was put it all together!! (and tie all those bows!! nightmare!). All up I think our invites cost us less than $150!! There are pics of our invites up on our webpage.

I'm happy to help you out if I can! Just let me know!

Welcome to I-do
As far as invitations etc go - I am *not* arty/crafty AT ALL but we made our own invites smile.gif (didn't have OOS) All up the paper/envelopes/pins cost us $48 smile.gif I used our PC and prnter and we borrowed a guillotine to cut the paper (that bit was Andrew's job!) Then we assembled them, our invites were DL size with an overlay, pinned together witha heart split pin (I think??)
Good Luck!

I plan on doing all my invites on the computer, all you need to do is design the invite in word or a desktop publishing program and then purchase the fancy paper & envelopes from a stationary shop, there are literally hundreds on designs to choose from, a pack of 100 sheets of paper costs about $20 and because your invites are flat and a regular size postage is so much cheaper. They won't be very fancy but if you want to make them a bit more special you can always fold the paper into pretty shapes, put some glitter or something in the envelopes, make up little gift boxes, whatever your imagination can dream up.

If all this stuff is just to overwhemlming then that's okay too, DIY is not for everyone. IMO I would look at all your options & get lots of quotes first before maing a decision that way if you do end up spending $1000 you'll know that you made the right choice because as they say 'knowledge is power'.
Married 8th October 2005! I will love you today, tomorow, always!

Where do you live? Maybe there is one of us close by that might help. I know I would if I am close to you.

I am doing mine all myself, just buying the invitation covers pre-made.
Sorry for any typos, I have a dislocated shoulder nerve.

What a great idea!!!

I'm pretty nifty with the papercrafts, and if you're in Sydney, would more than happily lend a hand!!

Hi Guys,
Well I must say I am shocked I got so many replies and that aome of you are even willing to help me. Thankyou so much! You brides have made my day!
I agree knowledge is power completely and being a Virgo I have explored all aspects of Wedding Stationary. I just really want to pay someone and have all my stationary done. All I have to do then is make a list and give the designer addresses etc and post them.
I love the stationary we're thinking of ordering... they suit the theme so well. I just feel guilty I guess about the whole cost of the one big day, as much as I am looking forward to it.
Thank God his parents and mine love us enough to pay for this elaborate event!!!
Keep on posting guys, I need advice. How did you cope with spending stress, in particular when your spending someone else's money. A lot of money. I must admit it is harder asking his parents for money, I get him to do that.
Love Debbie

If you still need another idea - I am getting all my bridesmaids to input their ideas and what I am doing (as I am making my own invites) is to have a girls night with a bottle of wine and heaps of glue sticks, scissors, etc...and just sit all night - reminscing on old times, chatting and making invites.

It is a great way to spend some time with your BM's.
