I am trying to find one of those new style flat veils. Can't seem to find one anywhere. They are just like normal veils but they don't have all the gathering at the comb, they are well flat (lol)

I did see one on a bride on the weekend and she had a back like mine on her gown (one you really don't want covered with all that tulle). It looked stunning, I know one of her BM from school, so asked her if she knew where the bride got it from, she said all she knew was it came with the dress.

Now when i go into a bridal store they look at me as if I am asking them if they have any veils made out of leather, huh.gif My only other option is to wear a normal veil, but a really short one (arm pit length) but this will mean I can not have it over my face during the ceremony, I have always dreamed of that moment when Chad lifts my veil. (also I will be crying alot so the veil will help cover the red eyes)

Please tell me you have seen one ?????
Sorry for any typos, I have a dislocated shoulder nerve.

It depends where on your head you plan to wear your veil. My veil was about armpit length, give or take an inch or so, and as I wore it high on my head was was able to do a layer over my face.

If your are wearing your veil low on the back of your head, I can see there being a problem with the part over your face.

You could probably get a longer veil, if you made sure it was very loosly gathered as this would allow it to spread nicely and only be 1 flat layer on your back, a tight or heavy gather would make it thicker and less see-through. One way to do this if you make it yourself is to start off with material that is only about as wide as your back, then you could loosely gather it so it would fit on a comb, you could also do a seperate veil that went over your face, and remove it and its comb after the ceremony leaving the longer back one.

I'm trying to imagine this... smile.gif So is there a comb or not? Or is it just a question of how much "gathering" there is on the comb? Coz when I first read your post I was thinking of a Spanish mantilla (I think that's how you spell it?).

That's what I was thinking of too - I love mantillas, that's my choice, a mantilla worn flat across the top of your head (no extra headpiece).

To wear something over your face though you would need an extra layer on the mantilla.

I think I know what you mean - one of my friends had a veil the sat quite flat, almost like someone had taken a piece of tulle and laid it over her head smile.gif

She got hers at the bridal shop but I'm sure someone could make it for you if you knew someone crafty

I know of a place in Pascoe Vale - Melbourne on Cumberland Road called Trimmings and Rimmings - they have this tule which I am using in my wedding and it is just beautiful. It too - is quite flat - so try this place. Email me if you want the phone number or proper address. I am pretty sure it is 324 Cumberland Rd - Pascoe Vale. Good Luck!

Why not make it?

Surely it wouldn't be hard at all...

I made a "foofy" veil, and it wasn't too hard, so I can't see a flat one being an issue.. smile.gif

Í think I might have to. the only thing is the edge, you need an overlocker for those and I don't have one, might just put some nice ribbon

Not if you're using tulle you don't. Tulle doesn't fray.

If you are using a "material" as opposed to tulle, there are other edgings, like a roll hem, which only requires a straight stitch and a little patience.

Here is one example of a mantilla:

http://cgi.ebay.com/...&category=15719

(I don't think it's the best example, as the lace edging is TOO heavy, it's usually a very fine floral edging, but the pictures on this item show different angles and how to wear it - also how you CAN wear a Mantilla over your face!)

Another example:
http://cgi.ebay.com/...&category=15719

Here's an Australian example, this one is worn very low under an up-do:

(as stocked by Park Avenue Bridal, I-do advertisers, so it's a valid link smile.gif)

I purchased my dress from p@rk @venue brid@l in parramatta and they had the flat style veils.

I tried one on with my dress, but it didn't really go.

It was only about 2 years when i purhcased my dress, surely they would still stock them.

Good luck searching!!

Ok I am going to make it

And on the edge I am putting some shear ribbon. The same ribbon will be used on my boquet. I am going to make 3 lengths. 1 long train length (my gown has no train but I would love on in the church). 1 mid length (to go over my face, from way down the back of my head) and 1 full circle armpit length (will be about 30 max) to wear at the reception.

I will only wear the long and mid for the ceremony.
