hahah no I didnt see any sharks, but the manta ray's scared the sh!t out of me for some reason, they are sooo cool, but move like lightening when they want to, you can just be floating around and suddenly there is one below you, and I am scared of big critters, even though they dont attack you or anything! They are gorgeous, with purple spots, great to look at, but I am such a sook, little fishies are great, bigger fishies, and I am very very nervous! I loved the snorkelling, just soo stunning. Largish fish are not very large, I am just a nutcase! Also, despite what anyone tells you butterfly fish do bite! hahaha the are small and have teeny tiny mouths, but everytime I got in the water they would start nibbling at me! Doesnt hurt, but dont know why I was so tasty, and was irritating after a while! Jon didnt believe me, so had him watch with his snorkel mask on, and he was amazed at how tasty I must have been!

I am devising a small list of the does and donts of Rarotonga if anyone wants to see it. Wont post it in here because it names businesses, but will send one to anyone interested. Just a few thoughts that might help you guys about to go there not to get ripped off etc. Since we lost about $300 in the getting ripped off process, lol.

Oh I would love that list! We're currently exploring options and Cook Islands keep coming up. For those of you who've been can you enlighten me on what there is to do if you get bored on lounging by the beach/pool after a few days?! Don't get me wrong, we're really looking forward to that but we also really want to do a bit of exploring and not come home and say we spent the entire time on a beach- cos we could do that here for next to nothing IYKWIM.

Thanks girls!

Hi Nessie,

I don't think you'll get bored, but there's plenty to do if you're sick of lolling:

go on the cross-island walk

go to the cultural village

go to one of the island nights

go pearl shopping in town

do a horseback tour - includes riding through the water

hire a boat at the sailing club and learn to sail

take a picnic to one of the little motus off Muri beach

borrow/hire a kayak and paddle around the lagoon

Belladoah - we stayed at Palm Grove too! Weren't they lovely there..

Can i have your list too please? So helpful to have someone who's already been there done that. smile.gif Love the idea of nibbling fish - kind of like enforced exfoliating!

I got bitten by the trigger fish off Muri beach - they are very territorial and really go at you. One bit me twice - and drew blood and gave me a bruise! It wasn't scary though, more irriating. I wanted to pluck it out of the water and give it a good talking to!
