I am dying to go to Bora Bora and stay in the overwater bungalows, does anyone know how much two weeks would cost?? I know it would be extortion, but I have to know.

Alternatively, does anyone know or has visited somewhere with overwater bungalows for a more reasonable price? Thanks

We HAD to have an overwater bungalow for our honeymoon and I really couldnt find any that werent expensive. However - we went to Samoa to the only oeverwater bungalows there and they werent too bdaly priced really - Coconuts Beach Club - I hugely recommend it, just superb!!

Having the overwater bungalow was worth the cost! It was very luxerious. We used to jump off the balcony straight into the lagoon to go snorkling. We also had a glass floor in the lounge area so we could sit and watch all the fish!

hope you find something suitable!

I'm so glad to know that you have stayed at Coconuts cos my H2B and I were thinking of going. He's Samoan so thats why he is so eager to go there.

Was the water as beautiful as he says it is??

ooohhh Bora Bora is sooo beautiful...we haven't even found out how much it was BUT a lady that works with H2B told him she spent $15K when she went and she was only there for ONE WEEK...so he freaked out and said Bora Bora is out of the question missy...and well the Maldives was/is a bit damaged from Tsunami...so where else would we find the little bungalow on top of the water???!!!!

Samoa is beautiful - really quiet - very few tourists... and yes the water is beautiful. I couldnt stop snorkling - I loved all the different fish and coral.

And coconuts is lovely - I am definetely going back, the food is FANTASTIC!!! I cant say enough wonderful things about this resort. It only has 20 (gorgeous) rooms so its really intimate and exclusive feeling.

Umm I really cant remember prices - but I know its cheaper now cause of the Australian dollar being stronger against the $US.. Our whole honeymoon was $6000 for 10 days but that was only 6 nights in Samoa and 5 star accomodation everywhere.

Flights to Samoa are about $400 each way.

Also to save money - I recommend the beachside bungalows, they are just as lovely as the overwater bungalows and cheaper..

Hope you have a great time wherever you end up going!

This is not entirely true. Some of the Maldives Resorts got damaged, but there are many resorts which are still operating as normal, and many that have been rebuilts already. I think Maldives would be a good option at the moment, because you would get a pretty new resort (Cause it would have just been refurbished), and I have seen a few pretty good deals to try and sell it again.

As for Tahiti, I work in travel, and once I was bored and decided to price an over the top holiday to see what it would come out to, and it was sky high. Those overwater bungalows are more than $1000 per night, so for 14 nights, you are already looking at about $14000 and that is not with airfares or anything, PLUS once you get there, prices are so expensive. I have had people pay ridiculas things like $70pp for breakfast, and $15 for a bottle of coke.

A few alternatives. Instead of Bora Bora, go for Moorea. You will be suprised with the difference, and you still get that beautiful water. Otherwise have you heard of Club Med. They have one in Bora Bora, and it is all inclusive, although I dont know if they have overwater bungalows.

Oh oh, last option. Cook Islands has a little island called Aituaki. They have overwater bungalows, amazing water, and wont break the bank. They are not quiet the same overwater as in Tahiti and Maldives, but they are still nice. They are kind of on the beach, with half the room on stilts overwater, not on a pier in the middle of the ocean.

Any questions just PM me. I am happy to help if I can.
