Hi Girls

FH & I are leaning heavily towards Fiji for our honeymoon but are not sure whether to stay on the coral coast/mainland or one of the other islands.

Which islands and/or resorts do you recommned? Why?

Are there any you think we should steer clear of? Why?

Thanks for help, Rose biggrin.gif

Sara is staying at Crusoes Retreat on the Coral Coast.
I'm sure she will let you all know when she gets back how it was. The pictures she showed me look great!

Hi Rose,

Definately the islands! They are gorgeous! Ive also stayed on the Coral Coast but preferred the islands. Less to do though then the mainland so depends on how much relaxing you want to do. We are staying at Tokoriki but Ive heard Castaway is also great.

We decided to stay away from the coral coast two hours was too far to travel to and from the air port for us so we decided on the Sonanali (SP???) so that we where close to nadi, we thought that we can all way day trip if we want. What is like in the pictures great, real life no idea can tell you in 3 months.

Hi Kirst

I assume you mean Sonaisali. That was one of the 3 resorts we went to whilst on our honeymoon in 2002. We also went to Tokoriki and The Outrigger.

I am not sure what things are like there at the moment but back in 2002 when others went, there were quite a few complaints that were posted here.

Hi Rose,

My MOH just got back from Fiji, and she is raving about Treasure Island.

She had a great time and said the water was beautiful!

I did searches and read what others had written about it and they sounded happy, the only bad thing that I could find is the beach, and I already knew about the volconic ash (black sand). Can you remember what the complaints where about????

We stayed at Castaway island in Fiji the beach was beautiful you could snorkel straight off the beach in a stunning coral reef, the restaurant is also so romantic.

The bures are also right on the beach. The sunset bar is amazing.

Have you considered the more remote islands of Fiji?

We were looking at Maravu Plantation Resort and Taveuni Island Resort - they look like really cosy resorts and you can get packages with all food included and they have loads of free activities!

Has anyone been there before?

We just got back from fiji, we stayed on the mainland then moved on to the islands. Islands are the way to go. We stayed on Mana island and I would go back anytime without a second thought.

From memory, I think it was moreso the service, the rooms and the amount of construction going on at the time as they were extending the resort.

We've just come back from our Fiji honeymoon and went for a cruise then a resort. The cruise was a Blue Lagoon one and OMG was it fantastic! I would recommend it to anyone from age 8 to 80! It was by far and away the best thing we could've done and it allowed us to explore the Yasawa Islands which are relatively untouched compared to other parts of Fiji - and we got to see more of the 'real' Fiji. We were also treated like royalty which was how you hope you get treated on your honeymoon.
For our resort it was the Sonaisali (fancy that!) It was good being so close to Nadi although I now realise that's not a big deal as there isn't anything much in Nadi (apart from cheaper food / drinks which you should definately get as resort snacks / drinks prices are incredible eg. one big cocktail there is $18!). There was no construction going on there, service was fantastic (although restaurant staff were a little slack) and they offered much more than other resorts in terms of activities. We did a island hop and went to surrounding resorts and found that Sonaisali was by far and away the best resort in the area. On the negative side, the pool was a let down (big but not as big as the brochure would have you believe) and it is quite big so there are quite a few people there, otherwise I would say it was good but no matter how good it was, you really should try to include the Blue Lagoon. I can't rave about that enough.
If you have any questions about Sonaisali etc. just PM me.

I know a great travel site that offers really $$cheap$$ holidays! My mum booked her honeymoon to Fiji through them and saved $1200...

She is staying at the outrigger or something ?

PM me if you want the site...
