So for months now I have decided I want to call my bubba boy Nathaniel Alexei with Koen Alexei as my back up if James doesn't like it. Now I am not in love with Nathaniel but it just seems to fit with all my rules the best.

Now I am not so sure. I am not sure if I like Nate. I don't know if I am having last minutes worry as its only 3 weeks away now. My problem is Koen, Evander, Mattieu (not sure if people will know how to pronounce it) just don't seem right either. I still like Oleksiy lots but even though spelling and pronouncing my name all my life didn't worry me (I love my name) I think it might be a bit to much for a boy and no one else seems to like it so it has been scrapped but is still in my head.

So any other last minute suggestions on names or thoughts??

I think Nate has quite an american sound to it but apart from that it is a name that is cute when bubs is little, cool when he is a teen and appropriate as an adult.

Aurelia is just at the age where she is starting to get annoyed with having a name people don't spell or say correctly. I don't mind the name Koen either, I just dislike that spelling.

Everyone will have their own opinion mate. Perhaps when bubs arrive one will feel right?

Is it just because you're unsure about the nn Nate that you are unsure now? Or just a general not quite right feeling? If its just the nn Nate, maybe another nn would work. Nat is cute, I know a Nathaniel who goes by Nat. I do really like Nate though too. There are lots of nn options wit that name though! Nate, Nat, Nath, Nathan...

You never know, he might arrive and look exactly like a Nathaniel smile.gif Maybe take your short list to hospital and decide once he arrives?

I like Nathaniel best, although I do prefer more traditional names. I agree with Chelly and Bluebug, maybe when your son arrives something will feel just right?

I love Nathaniel - I think it is a lovely strong name for a boy.

You never know what he will end up with as a nick name, your other children might end up calling him something else (if they have trouble pronouncing Nathaniel and it may stick), you could use his middle name, or another term of endearment for him.

I know a Christopher who is Chrisopher... he has never been called Chris (as his parents don't like it) - he is 16 now, and I don't remember ever hearing anyone call him Chris.

My sister's nn is "olive" becuase people thought she looked like Popeye's girlfriend and it is completely unrelated to her name, but has stuck for years (and started when she was in primary school and she's almost 30 now)

My brother's nn is from his initials.

I wouldn't rule out a name, becuase you don't like the shortened version. If you like Nathaniel but not Nate, I would call him Nathaniel and ask others to call him that too.

I think it's an awesome name! If its any consolation I have been second guessing our boys name too (if that's what we end up having) and it sounds like for similar reasons.. I like the full name but don't like any shortened versions of it. I have gone through our list of names so many time but nothing else feels right somehow? I also think that if I ended up changing it at the last minute I wound regret it down the track and think I should have gone with my first choice? As others have said though you may look at him when he is born and decide on another name which is fine too!

Anyway, FWIW I think that you have chosen a great name.. I really like it so I will vote for keeping it the same smile.gif

I too really like Nate.

I love this site for inspiration: http://nameberry.com...oys-Names?all=1

I thought the "best cool unusual boys names" sounded most appropriate biggrin.gif
