I think its normal and natural to be worried about babies names, if its any consolation I am in the same boat right now especially with boys names. I was thinking about it over the weekend and asked myself the question 'why is this so difficult for me?' and came up with the fact that I feel like we have already used our absolute favourite boys name ever and so I am worried that nothing else can ever compare to that name if that makes any sense? I also think that it is more that we now associate our (current) childrens names with an emotional response.... I hear the name Liam nowadays and I just smile as I think of his gorgeous nature and cheeky personality and just how much I love him wub.gif Other names by comparison are just "names" at this stage as we haven't yet formed that emotional response but we will over time as we get to know and love these new little people coming into out lives. Sorry, not sure if that makes any sense I am a little hormonal and slightly crazy right now tongue.gif Anyway, here is an answer to your original question.

- Alexei (Lex or Alex for nn)- I like it... more importantly I get the feeling that YOU like it as I notice that this is a name that keeps cropping up in your short list and have a feeling this may be a front running name for you?
- Xavian (Xav or Xavi as nn)- Not a fan sorry
- Rhys (no nn mad.gif )- Its OK, but not sure that it suite your naming style for some reason?
- Oleksei/ Olexei (Leks or Ollie for nn) Definitely not a fan, I think if you are liking this style of name then Alexei may be a front runner for you
- Seth (no nn mad.gif )- Like it
- Emerson (girly mad.gif )- Like it, how about Emmet?
- Koen/ Koehn- As others have said I only like this name is spelt with a C fort some reason. I think Cohen is a lovely name!
- Knox- Its OK
- Mathew (quite popular and 2 of my best friends are named this so don't think DH will go for it)- I think Matthias is more your style for some reason?
- Evander (Ev or Vander as nn)- Don't like it sorry
- Quinten (Quinn as nn)- Don't like it sorry
- Emanuel/ Immanuel (Manny as nn, maybe a bit to old sounding)- Like it
- Matthias/ Mattieu/ Mattathias (Love Matt as a nn but unsure)- Another one I could see you using and have a feeling this is also on a 'shorter' short list for you?- I like it
- Atticus (Atti as nn)- Its OK but something about this is not quite right but can't put my finger on it?
- Lachlan (Lachy as nn but SOOOO popular has always been my fav name since before Zack)- Like this name but it is very popular and I have heard you say that you are not a fan of names that are too popular?
- Riley (So popular)- Quite popular as well
- Luca (could you use Luey as nn instead of Luke??)- Like it
- Alexander (Many nn possiblities for this but very popular and starts with A)- Like it
- Finley (Finn as nn)- Like it
- Nathaniel-(Nate as nn)- Like it
- Sebastian (Bastian as nn I use to hate this name so don't know why I like it now but I do but prob not my fav)- Agree it is probably not your fave
- Mannox (Love Manny and Nox as nn just not sure only just added this)- Not a fan sorry
- Zebadiah (Zeb as nn not sure on it and don't know if I want another Z name)- Strongly dislike
- Xanthus (girly sounding?) dislike

For some reason I think that your front runners may be Alexei or Matthias as I have heard you talking about these names before? I also really like Cohen but spelt with a C as opposed to a K and could see it working with your other names. Also, there it no reason not to use another A name.... if you like it then I say go for it. It is most important to have a name that YOU like and are comfortable with.

Also, would you consider narrowing it down to a short list of say 3 of these names and then waiting until baby is born to see which name you think suits them best? There is no reason to feel pressured into choosing one right now, you still have time left so take all the time you need to choose one that feels right for you xxx

Thanks everyone. I haven't searched for names since posting this which is a big difference as every night I have searched for names for hours until I went to bed. I think I have found one! Its in the list and many have said they like it.

Truffles- Alexei has been on a fav list for a while but alot saying it was a girls name always put me off. I do love it and it will be the middle name if it isn't the first. If I use Koen I won't be using the Cohen. There is many families Cohen in our town, many I went to school with. It's also meant to be offensive. Koen means bold and daring in Dutch and I like that. It would be one of the front runners but not sure James will go for it bc of the many families in our town with that name.

I will be narrowing down the list and taking the list he won't be named until we have him as I won't talk to DH about it until then (lovely IL's). My problem was I didn't have any that I liked (or wanted to use more then another).

Thelma- I love Eli lots! But think its a bit girly like alot of the names I have

I'm glad you are feeling better about names now! I've been meaning to come in and comment.

Alexei is definitely not girly so don't let that put you off. It's one of my favourites from your list. I have also been meaning to comment on the Cohen issue. You are correct that the name Cohen (that spelling) can be offensive to some Jewish people as it is a religious title and not usually bestowed as a first name. It is becoming more popular now but that doesn't stop it being offensive to some communities. Whether that bothers individuals is up to them but people should be aware before using it. You are correct that Koen is Dutch and not considered in any way offensive. I'm not normally a fan of K spellings of names but in this case Koen is definitely the better option in my opinion.

Off your list I like for you: Alexei, Rhys, Seth, Knox, Matthias, Luca, Nathaniel, Sebastian, Alexander, Finlay (I prefer this to Finley but Finn or Finnegan also work). I don't think any of the 1 or 2 syllable names need nicknames, and you might find they arise organically over time anyway.

Really?! I consider it quite strong, I think mostly because there is that really long, strong 'eeee' sound at the beginning.

Anyway, glad you're feeling a bit more relaxed about names. I think it's the same as when you're trying to find something you lost. You look and look for it everywhere and can't find it. So you give up and later on it just shows up out of the blue!

I agree that Eli is strong. Elijah was our back up for Alexei as its the Hebrew translation of Ilya's name.

^^ I think I have the same taste as you Monica as I love both of those names!

Yay Lena - glad to hear that you stepped away for a little bit and may have THE name. Can't wait to find out what it is!
