I would pronounce Elia as "Eh-liah"
I would pronounce Eleaya "Eh-lay-ah" - and yep, sorry I think it looks a bit funny - like you've tried to throw extra letters in there for the heck of it. (sorry).

It looks a bit like Elijah, so I think people will mostly gravitate towards that sort of sound.

I don't know how I would spell it to make it be pronounced the way you want. Most people would only mispronounce it once or twice before they learnt though.

I'm going to be brutally honest here.

Eleaya looks completely made up and I'd have no idea how to say it. I'd guess Elle -ee - ay -ah more than El-ee -ah which I think is what you're going for.

Ellia would be the least 'uneek' of the spellings I could think of. I know an Elia that's pronounced Elly -ah, so the extra 'l' would make me elongate that sound.

I do think Ellia and Amahlia are a bit close though, JMO of course.

My brain had to think for a while about how to pronounce it, but eventually I decided on E-lie-ah
Ellia would be my preferred spelling for the pronunciation you're wanting

I'm personally not really keen on any of the variations as they just look made up to me. I also think that name is too similar to your other daughter's name. Sorry if that comes across as harsh, but just letting you know smile.gif

If I saw that name I would pronounce is E-lay-a.

What about Eleah. Just Leah with the E in front so no-one can get that wrong surely!

Must say when I look at it like this it looks like it should be said E-leah-ya with two ah sounds at the end, which is weird. Maybe I should just give up on it.

I don't think there is a spelling that will guarantee the pronunciation you want. I do think Eleaya looks weird, sorry.

And I agree with those who said it's very close to Amahlia. In fact the more I think about it, the more alike they seem. Sorry!

Yup I agree that it looks made up and I wouldn't really know how to pronounce it.

Are we talking girls name?

Also, I think you need to steer clear of name with too strong an L sound given Amahlia.

Your set at the moment being Ashton, Zakarie and Amahlia are all very different sounding so I'd be choosing something different again.

How about Nina smile.gif

I think it's unfortunately one of those names that is always going to have an ambiguous pronunciation like Helena, Alana, Elana, Lila, Leila etc.

For the pronunciation you want I'd go with Eleah, however you would get some variation in how people think it's pronounced. I don't think it would take much correction though. Have you had many issues with people pronouncing Amahlia's name? I don't think it's any different difficulty wise than Amahlia.

I think it's a little matchy with Amahlia but not to the point that I'd rule it out if you love it. Personally I'd go for something with different sounds to Amahlia but that is my preference, I don't think Eliea/Eleah etc is awful with your other kids, just not ideal.

No one has ever pronounced Amahlia's name incorrectly. Although they have Ashton (Ashon 3 different times) how wierd is that.

I am having great difficulty staying away from A names. Just love Amity and Alexa (the 2 other names from Amahlia). Although Alexa is to closr to my name so Amity would be it. Just really can't use another A name.

Evanna is another name I just came across but hate the NN Evie (had a girl at schiool I hated with the name) or Anna. Also worried its sounds a bit like my name Alena (A-len(hen)-uh

ALso liking Vivienne- but think it is to old school for my fkids names and not out there enough.

Xanthe I don't mind but once again knew a girl I didn't much like and keep coming back to her.

Priya- Don't mind this

Callee- but again to close to my sisters name which is Kaylie.

Sorry, I think it is a horrible name and it made my head hurt trying to work out how to say it.

There is a character in the Game of Thrones series called Elia but I always said it E-lie-a in my head.

Hmm, how about:
Veronica
Vera
Verity
Viola
I taught a Vivianna once
Sylvie
Freya
Xanthia or Zanthia

I really like Verity from Gretch's list. It's similar to Amity but without the A, and very pretty!

Verity is nice. Its not at all 'out there' though so not sure if you think it would fit with the others but its not something you hear around often at all so would be different from that POV.
