Ok, so here we are a few days after our "big day", we're in Phuket and I can't sleep! So I thought I'd hop on here and write about our day.

They weather was perfect, not a cloud or gust of wind at all. Amazing!!!!

My day started at my parents, with me finishing an assignment that is due the day we get back from our honeymoon....I didn't want that hanging over my head during the day and honeymoon, so I did some homework the morning of my wedding!!!! Nerd *cough, cough*

Then my sisters and I went for breakfast in Keilor village. I could hardly eat! Then we went to the castle where our ceremony and reception took place. We had the cottage accommodation to get ready in. Our hairdresser and make up artist met us there and we got the beautification started!
Before too long the photographer turned up. We had our getting ready photos and then he left to get ready for the ceremony. Our invites said 4:15, but we planned for 4:30 start. I think I asked my dad what time it was every minute from 3:00 to 4:20!!!!

Finally, at 4:25 the bridal party was collected to walk around and get into position. I was so excited... I didn't want to wait any longer to walk down that aisle. But wait I had to...
When we got there the lady from the reception place tol us to wait a few minutes, some guests were still turning up. I was fine with that. After a few minutes I said that's enough, anyone turning up now is over 15 minutes late. Let's go. Then she said, your groom wants to wait a bit more... His dad had to leave to get something. He'll be back soon. I started becoming anxious, I was worried that his dad Might do something. Still we waited. Then I was told that his dad left almost an hour ago. We live 15 minutes from the venue... I had no idea what was going on. Apparently he left some medication st our house and went to get it. We had booked our photographer for 7 hours, I was worried delaying things would compromise our photos, especially the father daughter dance photos, the last thing on our photographers list.

I told the lady tell him I am walking down the aisle now, or I am leaving. I feel sorry for the lady, I did swear a bit, and I realise now that I was irrational. But I kept saying to myself, you don't make the bride wait on her wedding day. The groom should be anticipating her arrival, not dictating it. I don't blame my husband at all, just his dad. Of course he would want his dad at his wedding, who wouldn't.

So anyway, the music started, I put smile on my face and we started. The ceremony was outside, behind the reception room. We walked along a verandah and down some stairs to the grassy area where our guests were. I remember seeing my husbands face smile ( he was worried looking, no doubt thinking about his missing father). But I also remember seeing the looks on all our friends and families faces. I felt like a movie star, with people all taking my picture. I remember lots and lots of smiling faces! I was terrified I would fall or trip on the stairs, so I was chatting a bit to my dad, making sure he didn't let me fall. We got there and I had my dad standing next to me for most of the ceremony. About halfway inthe celebrant asked, "who gives this woman" and my dad said ,"I do" then he sat down. I had to concentrate really hard on my vows, because when we had practiced I kept getting tongue tied by saying,"With this wing, I thee wed!" I was giggling, my sisters were giggling. The best man was giggling. Our celebrant, bless him, was a funny old fella. He kept telling people when to take photos and even said,"for better or worse, for richer or poorer, but I recommend richer!!!!"

All said and done, you may kiss the bride, and then he said, kiss her again!!! And we officially became a Mr and Mrs.

Then we had photos, our reception and we stayed the night inthe cottages. Our speeches were all wonderful, I think my dad and my sister did the best. Then my husbands' speech was great. Food was ok, I've had better and worse at weddings. Guests started to leave so we called the quits a little bit early, but I was more than happy to do that.

All in all, our day was terrific. Apart from my father is law going missing, delaying the ceremony and missing he ceremony, and apart from my sister is law bitchy shitty behaviour we had the day we wanted.

I haven't written about my SIL because there is a long back story. Suffice to say that as nice as my DH is, his sister is horrible. She literally said two words to me all night. She said, "hello" after the ceremony and "goodbye" as they left (early). She and her husband sat there like misery guts, and even left the room a few times for long periods of time. They were the only two people not standing as we were introduced as mr and mrs.... Not sure what type, if any relationship will be continued after this. My DH was very angry at her, her behaviour and because she didn't bring her kids. He really wanted his family there, at least for the ceremony (we had lots of kids at the reception too, they could have come). It's a long story, but I want to think about the smiling faces as I walked down the aisle.

So that's my wedding day. If you're getting married in Melbourne, particularly in the west, PM me for some recommendations. Dress was stunning, make up and hair, flowers, venue all was reasonably priced and fantastic!

From Mrs P!!!

Woot! Congratulations on making it to the other side!

Hope you don't mind me asking, but what happened to your FIL in the end? Did he apologise for walking out on you all?

DH and I started our day discussing him. DH feels like it's his fault, he said to go before the ceremony, he had an hour to do a 30 min trip. I heard my FIL talking about the traffic, and how he got lost... Blah blah blah. I was really aggravated by the whole thing I hardly spoke to him. I think he may have apologised, but it was in the middle of rushing through the family photos, I don' really recall if he DID apologise.

After our wedding my DH is re-evaluating a couple of key relationships: namely with his sister (who was beyond dreadful, she was just disgraceful, horrible, rude and mean) and he wants to have a chat with his dad. I think both my husband and his father didn't really realise what effect making m wait had. Apart from just stressing me out and making me anxious and agitated, because we were delayed we lost time with photos, so we didn't get to take all the photos we wanted.

My husband (the novelty of saying that hasn't worn off yet!) and I decided to focus on the best memories of the day, not the couple of shitty ones. I expect we'll visit FIL and he'll say something then.

Congratulations!

I just can't get over your FIL. I can't imagine what medication is so important that it couldn't of waited an hour. I would have been furious! No one makes the bride wait! Especially when you give a 15 minute buffer. Hope your husband is able to get some answers when he chats with him, it just doesn't seem right.
