Oh I loved your birth story, Marisa! Sooo amazing that you got a baby girl after all those months of thinking you had a boy (but knowing deep inside you had a daughter wub.gif ). What a gorgeous family you have!

You did so well with your labour, I have never even had a contraction but hope to have a VBAC next time - with your description of labour I feel I have a better understanding of what it may be like - you described it all really well!

Enjoy your precious baby girl wub.gif

Gorgeous and well done, Mumma! Congrats and again - I LOVE the name smile.gif

Thank you. I love the name too. I had a lot of doubts for many months about the name "Lucas" so its nice to have found a name that feels right from day 1. wub.gif

Thank you so much for sharing your story!

What a surprise to find out she was a girl, did it feel a bit surreal for a while?

Congratulations - she's beautiful, and I love her name. xx

Totally surreal! It took quite a few weeks to sink in. I did a whole lot of little girl shopping for Chrissy presents and it took me till the end of the day to realise I had a girl too and could buy her something girly as well. I even moved her into the next size nappy after a week because it was such a thrill to buy pink huggies!

What a beautiful surprise! She is just perfect - congratulations smile.gif Having a water birth would have been amazing!

I would totally recommend a water birth to anyone. It was AMAZING!

Oh Marisa! wub.gif You've baked another beauty. She's stunning and I can see so much of you in her face. Can't wait to meet her!

I've been hanging out for this story and I'm so glad you posted it. How wonderful you got a water birth! I knew exactly what you were talking about when you described the urge to push; it's unstoppable and so primitive, isn't it. wacko.gif

Welcome little Ayla, it's lovely to meet you. wub.gif

wub.gif Thank you so much and thank you for doing my announcement here. Let's meet up soon. I know you love newborns but she's growing rapidly so best sooner than later.

Gorgeous story Marisa wub.gif wub.gif wub.gif

I didn't realise you thought you were having a boy. I think you are the first person I know of that has ended up with a girl thinking they were having a boy, it's usually the other way around! What a lovely surprise at the end though smile.gif

I loved your story. You are right that the pushing urge is just so forceful and primitive. I had a farily cruisy contraction stage and coped well with the pain in the bath and didn't think it was hard at all until I got the uncontrollable urge to push the freaked the living daylights out of me. Annoying I was only 8cm when I was getting pushing sensations and I had to 'not push', which was nigh on impossible! I could totally relate to your story though, you described the sensation very well.

I'm so pleased you are enjoying life with Ayla. She is gorgeous and you are a very sweet family of four! Congratulations again.

After googling the chances of them having got the scan wrong, it turns out at 16 weeks, if it is wrong, then its normally them saying boy when its a girl than the other way around. By the 19 week scan that's reversed. Apparently they all look rather boy like to start with and obviously at 17 weeks my "girl" had rather boy looking bits.

Funnily enough I felt like a total novice too. Because I was induced with Lucas I wasn't sure I'd recognize natural contractions at the start. I had so many false alarms but the old saying "you'll know" really is true after all (despite me doubting it right to the end).

Thanks for all your lovely comments. We're still totally smitten. wub.gif wub.gif

Oh my God, this birth story was epic - I loved it! Fantastic read, thank you so much for sharing goodgirl biggrin.gif

I am like you - the pushing bit is by far the most difficult and revolting part of the process dry.gif My first baby was two pushes, two pushes for baby 2 and baby 3 was one almighty push...I just needed that pushing DONE, didn't care what it did to me, just make that feeling STOP. Seriously felt like my body was ripping apart at the seams.

I am so thrilled your gut instinct was right and you have your precious (and very beautiful wub.gif ) Ayla in your arms. Lovely!!
