Hi all,

I know I haven't said much about our IVF journey on here, but I do stalk a bit and try to keep up with everyone else. Anyway, I thought I may as well share my latest experiences as some others may find the info helpful.

We did our first 3 stims with Prof Beverley Vollenhoven at Monash IVF Clayton. You can see the results in my sig. All 3 times I was on 450 per day (2 doses of 225) of gonal f with Orgalutran antagonist and Ovidrel trigger.

After the 3rd I was very frustrated and wanted to try some different things, but our FS was adamant that we just needed to keep going until we 'struck it lucky'. rolleyes.gif I wasn't happy with that at all and began researching other FSes.

I ended up going to Roshan Shamon at City Fertility. I am so incredibly happy with him, and so far our results are MUCH more promising. This is what he's done differently:

-tested my AMH (which I mistakenly thought had been done at Monash) which is 11.7. So not bad for a 40 year old, and certainly not indicative of needing such high doses of FSH as I was previously given.

-ordered full chromosomal blood tests on both me and DH (results were completely normal).

-put me on DHEA for 8 weeks before stimming again

-completely changed FSH type and dosage. This time he put me on Elonva which is a slow-release FSH and hasn't been used in Australia for long. One injection of 150 which lasts a week. After this I was topped up with Puregon, but only 1 dose of 225 per day. Orgalutran and Ovidrel are unchanged.

I had plenty of follicles which actually developed faster than they had on 450 of gonal f, and ended up with around 20 of fairly even size. Also my lining is over 9mm which is far better than the 7mm odd I was getting before.

EPU was yesterday and they collected 14 eggs, (better than the 11 collected during each previous cycle) and ALL of them were mature. And as of this morning we have 12 embryos. So I am hopeful that our chances of a great quality emby are better.

I've been seeing a wonderful acupuncturist at Bump Clayton as well- I actually started seeing her before stim 3 but have continued right through to this cycle. She has had me and DH on q10 which I believe had a role to play in slightly better embies during cycle 3 and along with the DHEA and acupuncture sessions was how I believe we were able to conceive without assistance earlier this year.

Anyway, sorry for the massive post, but as I said I hope this info is useful to others.

Anica I've been secretly stalking your progress so I'm SO pleased to hear you have had a great stim!

You really do need to trust your gut! I know SO many people who have started treatment with one FS only to change and have success with a new clinic. I really don't think the 'wait and see' approach is helpful at all. Obviously it is ultimately a numbers game, and you can't expect success every cycle (wouldn't that be nice smile.gif ) but you also can't just keep heading down a path that is clearly leading nowhere.

What fab news about your AMH too!

I really do hope this is the one for you, and that you get a freezer load of embies so you never have to stim again!!

Congrats Anica those sound like wonderful results so far I will keep my fingers crossed that you get a good number of those embies throught to freezing. Does your FS do Day3 or 5 transfers? DH & I have recently transferred to a new FS as well so hopefully we too will be blessed with a more successful EPU this time and lots of lovely embryos. I will also be trying acupuncture for the first time with this new cycle so it's good to hear how many people seem to recommend it. Good luck with the rest of your cycle and if you ever want to post in the IVF forum we are a very nice bunch smile.gif

Thanks girls.

HB this FS wants to transfer on day 3 since our embies haven't progressed particularly well in the lab in the past. He wants to transfer 2 embies as well.

Thanks hun.

Embryologist called-10 embies still going with varying quality. 3 look very good* at this stage.

*1 x 4 cell 0% fragmentation
*1 x 4 cell <10% fragmentation
1 x 4 cell cleaving >10% fragmentation
1 x 3 cell <10% fragmentation
1 x 3 cell >10% fragmentation
1 x 3 cell cleaving >10% fragmentation
*1 x 2 cell 0% fragmentation
2 x 2 cell approx 10% fragmentation
1 x 5 cell approx 25% fragmentation

Transfer is tomorrow and they'll update me again then. Need to decide whether to freeze extras tomorrow, or wait and see if we get any suitable for freezing on day 5, or do a bit of both- provided there are enough left of course.

Transfer went well today. 2 gorgeous embies are in, and another 2 have been frozen. There are another 5 being observed in the lab, of those only 1 or 2 have any chance of making it to freezing by day 5 or 6, but I'm absolutely in shock we have so many still going at all!

I'm now on Clexane 40 mls and Prednisolone 5mg. Blood test is on the 8th.
