So, to save me taking over Steph's thread, I thought I'd start one here and make it a bit of a general chat thread. A place to share your latest purchases, post the latest thing you're drooling over, wanting to find something, or ask an opinion.

I'll get things rolling tongue.gif Bought a couple of new things at the Jeans West sale this morning. I bought this cardigan and this knit top.

I'm really struggling to find some jeans. They're either too tight and give me a really bad muffin top, or they fit nicely at the top but too loose around the bum and crotch.

I'd like to venture into the tunic/short dress with leggings arena. My sister has tried to get me to try them in the past but I've never been confident enough but have decided now I'll give it a go. Anyone able to point me in the direction of some nice ones?

And if I can find some nice jeans that I can fit boots over, I'd like to get some boots. I've been put off in the past because I'll try on a couple of pairs and they're too small for my calves. Any thoughts on where I should look I what I should try?

Hi all,

I have the fashion sense of a slug, but would love to read and get some inspiration!

I have smartish clothes but very conservative - shirts and v-neck nice long-sleeve tops and black trousers or jeans at the moment.

I'd love to get into wearing nice wintery skirts with tights and boots, but worry that I'd have to buy too many other things to make it work with what I already have. I don't have a lot of good cardigans or winter jackets.

I actually found a good pair of skinny jeans at Jay Jays (felt totally uncomfortable shopping there, the sales assistants and customers all looked 12 to me!). Go great with boots over the top or ballet flats.

As for the dress/legging combo, I picked up a gorgeous grey one from Target last year. It's plain, not patterned, and easy to dress up or down. Also a lot of the ones I found were more empire line and that wasn't too flattering on me, a waist that was actually, you know, AT my waist, suited me better.

I'm on constant lookout for a long cardigan that doesn't make me look frumpy! I have a lovely one from Review a couple of seasons ago that is so thick and warm but I'm short and have bumps in different places now and when I do it up I look sooooooooo frumpy. So if anyone sees a good one, let me know!

AliRo have you tried Country Road for jeans? They have some great skinny leg and straight leg jeans at the moment and at $100 area good price. Also, Cotton On have great cheap skinny jeans, very comfy and under 40 bucks! I got them in black but they have all the funky colours that are in right now.

As for tunic type dresses, I wear a lot of Metalicus style stuff, particularly for work (we're not corporate obviously!). Mesop is a similar brand and I have a couple of other brands that I can't think of right now but they are all that same fabric and flowy enough to hide a few bumps (plus tights hold you in nicely anyway!!). Most of mine are sleeveless dresses and I wear long sleeved tight t-shirts underneath, a normal-length or long cardigan over the top and ballet flats. Boots look good too with it all when it gets colder. Looks smart and is super comfy smile.gif

for me im trying to find online (my only way to shop as we have no real retail shops close by unless i play to fly out or spend a day driving) -

Nice quality leggings that dont stretch out of shape or become thin after a few washes
Nice lightweight tops - probably tunics and more on the breathing type of fabric as we during winter the temperatures are around 20-30degrees smile.gif
Lightweight Cardigans
Casual short dresses.

Anyone know of any good online sites that are reasonably priced?

Great idea Ali smile.gif

I got a gorgeous tunic dress from Target the other day that looks great with tights. I also love shirt dresses with tights - I have a great one from Witchery that never fails to look casual but chic..

Slim cut jeans - my fave pair currently are actually from Dotti.

Wide legged boots - I seem to always find them as I need slim legged boots! I found Mathers seemed to have really wide cuts.

Also don't forget ankle boots tucked into jeans are in. I got a great pair of bikie style ankle boots with a comfy chunky heel that look so great tucked into grey jeans and an oversized jersey top.

My latest purchase is a black knit dress from French Connection with a tie belt and bell skirt - very sweet and such a great cut. I am dying to wear it but the weather hasn't been cool enough yet!

I have already stocked up on tights, patterned stockings, light scarves and boots (LOVE winter fashion!) My big purchase for this season is going to be a delicate Allannah Hill cardigan in black. They are such works of art and I think my girls are old enough that they won't trash it on me!

Ali I love the knitted top - it's such a gorgeous colour too. smile.gif I need to break away from my obsession with mainly buying black tops. tongue.gif

Can't help with the jeans as I find jeans one of the hardest things to buy. So will look forward to what the other girls recommend.

Seed Heritage has some nice tunic tops/dresses at the moment like these Tunic Dress for $69.

Rosie I love the Metallicus and Mesop clothes. They are so comfy. Vigorella are another brand that are similar - I've been eyeing off some of these tunic type tops from them. Vigorella

Another great website that I thought I'd include is the Westfield website. I like it cause you can use it to search a whole range of different stores at once.

Also, suss out Target - especially their Limited Editions range. I've grabbed some gorgeous stuff from them over the past 6 months or so.

I agree with Penny too - great idea for a thread too. smile.gif

Great idea.
I usually stick with jeans and a plain long sleeved top for winter but I am trying to branch out a little.

The other night from Jeans West I bought
This skirt

and
this top

I want to find a tunic that has buttons up the top so that I can BF in it.

I LOVE my David Lawrence jeans - when on sale at DJ's they are around $100.
Another alternative if you only want to wear them tucked in to boots is just buy what fits up top and don't worry too much if they are long enough as you won't see the bottoms. I need to find a pair like this - almost jegging like but thicker - I know kmart have some for $10!

thanks for all the ideas! I don't have half those stores where I live so will just have to hunt around the stores that I do have a bit better. Tops I don't mind buying online, but definitely not jeans!

I will check out Cotton On and Jay Jays though. I usually don't venture into those stores but will have a look next time I'm there.

sjm, I like that top and skirt too. But I had to restrain myself and not buy too much!

I convinced myself that the skirt will also work in summer and the top can also be worn with jeans. So I can get 3 outfits out of them wink.gif

Well this would have to be the first time ever I have managed to create a spin off thread in the fashion section!!!!!!! laugh.gif

For those that read my thread, my birdsnest parcel arrived today. Super impressed with their delivery, I ordered Friday night and I get it Tuesday. They also packed it up in tissue paper and then a material bag and then the parcel post bag.

The dresses actually fit!!! If I had ordered the size I was recommended they would have swum on me. Thankfully I already had an Espirit dress so just ordered the same size. If I am brave and wear one of them this Saturday for Hubby's birthday I will post a photo of me in it.

As for jeans, I really struggle to buy jeans that fit my hips and then don't gap at the back waistband. The ones that fit me really well at the moment are these -> jeans. Only downside is that they don't come in many colours, but they actually fit me so I try not to complain too much wink.gif

ETA It would seem they have made a liar out of me and brought out the Curve Embracers (which I always call Curb Embracers for some reason laugh.gif ) in a whole range of colours which is better than dark blue only when I bought them.

Im not a fan of kmart clothing they look great, great price but within a few washes everything seems stretched or becomes thinner.

Steph - i bought the curve embracers last year just before we moved and love them they are comfy and fit properly - for me its better to spend the $$ on quality jeans rather than cheaper ones that seem to get baggy after a few washes.

so I've just discovered Glassons and they seem to have quite a few nice, basic, reasonably priced items. With free shipping! They also have quite a good range of items with merino wool, which I'm excited about, as even though I live in QLD, I live in a part that does get quite cold. But for some reason I find it so hard to find clothes with wool in them. Speaking of which, does anyone know where I can find kids clothes with wool in them? Would love to get a couple of undershirts for DD for this winter.
