I noticed that a few of us mentioned that we love to talk about our pets/animals in the what do you like to talk about thread. So I thought I'd get the ball rolling by creating a thread for just that. smile.gif

So I'll go first...

What sort of pet(s) do you have;
We have a 3 year old part Siamese cat called Moni.

How did you end up getting your pet;
She wandered into our yard when she was about 8 weeks old. Hubby found her hiding behind one of our bushes late one night and thought she was a possum. wub.gif We coaxed her out with some raw chicken and got her inside. She was such a tiny little thing and she kept me up all night that first night jumping all over me and none stop meowing. Right from the first moment we met her she stole our hearts. wub.gif

What are your pet(s) nicknames;
Moni has so many nicknames it is ridiculous! biggrin.gif We mostly call her Moo (shortened from Moni Moo Cat) laugh.gif She also gets Moni Monkey Bottom, Moni Girl, Monishwa & Monica. biggrin.gif

What do you love the most about your pet(s)
Moni was born with cataracts (which we found out after her first vets visit). We love the fact that even though she is vision impaired she still runs around like a mad man (woman), she chases her toys, scrunched up paper bags/tin foil, catches the odd sparrow huh.gif and jumps up and down on things. So she certainly isn't a princess when it comes to her sight stopping her from enjoying things.

She also talks - a lot! And it cracks us up at times with her jabbering away - especially when she is eating and this kind of Nom Nom Nom type happy chatter. We also swear she can say "Hello" - as she responds to our hello's each night after work with a kind of "How Woh" meow. Yes, it's official we are crazy cat people. laugh.gif

She is also better than any alarm clock we've ever had. As she wakes us each day at 5am on the dot to (request) her breakfast. tongue.gif And if we don't wake up her requests (paw taps) get harder until she finally resorts to doing a run around the bed then up on to the bed running over the top of us till we finally wake up/get up. She is so cheeky. laugh.gif

But, most of all I love how she snuggles with us at night on the bed and she sits up on the window sill waiting for us to get home at night. She is the first thing we see and look for when we get home. And I love that. laugh.gif

What sort of pet(s) do you have;
A 3 year old Blue Heeler named BJ (Bear Junior)

How did you end up getting your pet;
I organised him as a surprise for DH, who desperately wanted another Blue heeler puppy after his old dog had died of Cancer a couple of years earlier. He was advertised as Free to good home on our local noticeboard.

What are your pet(s) nicknames;
Normally El stupido on his not so smart days. Some days we call him Princess, because he acts a bit like one.

What do you love the most about your pet(s)
He is crazy. He reminds us that he needs to be fed every night (from about 9am lol) by picking his bowl up in his teeth and flinging it at the back door. He keeps doing it until he gets fed, which can make for some awfully long days.

He is THE laziest working dog ever. He gives up at the end of our street when we try to walk him - and we live at #13 in a culdesac, so it's not a long walk to that point lol. He spends his days laying on his back, sprawled out like he is dead. He does the 'dead' look so well some days we aren't convinced he isn't. He is pretty skilled at 'yoga' and does what we call his yoga stretches all the time. He also has the 'sun lounger and cocktails at the resort pool' look down pat too.

He loves DD, probably more than anything else in his little doggy world. He headbutts the door trying to get her attention if she isn't paying him enough attention. His absolutely favourite activity is jumping on the trampoline with her. He is partial to playing football, but his max is 5 throws, then he needs to lay down and recover after that.

He is the only dog I have ever come across that will actually eat the entire bone and not bury it. We give him half a big cow shin bone twice a week, and I can guarantee he will eat the whole thing within about 2 days. He is great with kids, and knows that he isn't allowed to take food unless it is pointing in a certain direction. He gives the best 'meh' look when we are playing with him by not holding his food in the right direction for him to take, like he is trying to tell us he doesn't give a crap when we know he is dying to eat whatever we have for him.

He also sulks if we have the camera out but don't take photos of him. It's hilarious.

Wow, your thread has prompted me to find my photobucket login, I love my pet so much! We have a heeler too, Lisa.

What sort of pet(s) do you have;
A 3 year old Blue Heeler named Axel. I keep telling DH that when we get another dog in a couple of years (we've always wanted two) it will be a female red called Rose wink.gif

How did you end up getting your pet;
We've wanted a dog for SO LONG but have been in townhouses and DH has always wanted at least a medium sized dog so it wasn't suitable. When we moved, we were into our house 3 days before I was down at the pound picking a dog. Axel was microchipped but the owners were not responding. We think he was unwanted, he was picked up wandering but was very fat, had been well trained and was already desexed and we just think they realised a heeler is more work than they were able to put in. He was due to get the needle the next day so we grabbed him.

What are your pet(s) nicknames;
Axa from Cait or Buddy (a bit confusing because my sister's dog is Buddy...)

What do you love the most about your pet(s)
He is such a good dog! He does love lazing around in the sunshine and rolling over for belly scratches but he also loves his exercise. He chases after kangaroos like a nutter when we walk through the bush and is really good on a lead. He will jog with you and DH put him through a very intensive 'get fit' running program when we got him to help him lose the weight. He does get puffed but wants to please so much that he just keeps running with you.

He's also great at chasing the ball, DH is teaching him lots of tricks. And he absolutely loves Cait, puts up with so much from a 3yo but loves it. He plays really well with other dogs too. We're so glad we got him!

What sort of pet(s) do you have;
We have 2 three year old Australian Shepherds - Belle & Myah.

How did you end up getting your pet;
Hubby & I have both always had dogs our entire life. When we were looking to move out together, (after being together for 5 yrs) we started talking about getting a dog. We decided we wanted to get 2, as we both worked full time and we wanted them to have a playmate when we weren't around. We discussed the pros & cons of lots of different breeds for a few weeks, and in the end both decided that we couldn't beat the Aussie Shepherd. We then found a breeder that wasn't too far from home (3.5hrs) and I contacted her to enquire about the litter that was due to be born within the next month. Initially she was hesitant to give us 2, (& 2 girls), given we wouldn't be showing them, and had plans to desex them. After a long phone call though, & a few emails back & forth she realised that we would provide our girls with a very loving home. I already had plans to go overseas for a month when the puppies would be born & we agreed that she would email me to let me know of their arrival! I got the news on Xmas eve when I was in Paris - our girls had arrived! wub.gif There were 5 healthy pups in the litter & so now it was just a matter of waiting to see which ones would become ours. Shortly after I returned home we made the trip 3.5hrs south to visit them & meet the breeder. We instantly fell in love with our girls, and our breeder fell in love with us smile.gif It was then & there that we both decided which ones would be ours & we travelled back home, knowing that in just a few weeks they would be ours for good wub.gif They came home with us on 13th February 2009 at age 8 weeks, and I can honestly say they were the best valentines day present I could have ever imagined. wub.gif Our journey to becoming a family was complete when DH & I got engaged the following weekend wub.gif

What are your pet(s) nicknames;
Myah tends to get 'Misty' most of the time or sometimes 'mistymoo' 'mischief' or 'mischievous' (not that she is!) . Belle is more often than not 'Belly', 'Belleyboo' 'Bubba', or 'Bubbabelle'. Very rarely do either of them get called by their real name! tongue.gif

What do you love the most about your pet(s)
What don't I love about them?! laugh.gif I love the fact that they are sooo close and really are the best of friends. Seeing as though they are littermates, they have never been apart & they are so in sync. I imagine it would be similar to having twins tongue.gif If one is scared/anxious, the others personality changes, they are the same size/strength so are the perfect tugawar playmates, they ALWAYS cuddle up together when they sleep, and they are never far apart from each other.

Despite being traditional 'working dogs' they definitely have an off switch, and are quite happy to come inside and sleep on their mat for hours on end. If they are tired, and I want to put them outside, they have no dramas in 'playing dead' and making me pick them up & carry them out! haha

My favourite thing about them though is that they just love being around hubby & I. They are never far from us and you can't go outside without them wanting a pat. If you sit down on the floor, they will, without fail, come over & try & plonk on our laps. They think they are lap dogs, even though they are 20kgs! haha laugh.gif
If I'm outside hanging out the washing, Myah has a habit of coming up behind me and squeezing her head between my legs - just to get a pat! Or if we are sitting down, they will nudge our hand/elbow/whatever they can find so we can pat them. They are VERY affectionate and love being treated like babies (inc being carried around! rolleyes.gif ).

Show us your favourite photo(s) of your pet(s)
Because there is 2 of them, I think it's only fair that I add a couple of photos? tongue.gif blush.gif

Okay, I'll have to do a few posts because I'll have a few pics to post. I'll do this in chronological order, that might be easiest. tongue.gif

Piper is my little dog who I got when I was 13. I was homeschooled for 18 months in 1998 and 1999 and it wasn't a very happy time in my life, but because I wasn't at school I was able to volunteer at the RSPCA during the week. Piper came into the RSPCA as an 8 week old puppy and it was love at first sight! I straight away asked my supervisor if I could have her. I don't know where she came from, she was found just her on her own, not as part of a litter, so her origins and her breed are a mystery. She has some spaniel but she is a real bitzer.

Piper is my soul mate in doggy form. I will always have a strong bond with her because of the other things I was going through at the time, she was the only bright spot in a pretty dreadful time. But she is just a divine dog anyway, even people who don't like dogs like Piper! She is 13 now and still going strong but I can tell she is getting old. I love the way that she follows me everywhere and when she was a pup if she thought my brothers were getting too rough with me she'd growl and try to protect me, very cute as a pup (not so cute as an adult but she grew out of it!).

This is her a few years ago, I don't have a picture on the computer as a pup. She is only small, less than knee height.

I will have to come back later and give proper response when I'm not on my phone. Both DP and I love our animals. So much so we have two cats (1 Maine Coon and 1 Ragdoll) two dogs (1 German shepherd 1 Boxed) five fish (2 are large oscars) and 1 Rainbow Lorikeet.

As our current living situation means we are in two separate locations and I rent where I am. When we do get to be in one place. We will be purchasing a house out of town on a few acres because we want to get a pet pig and one or two highland cows. We will also be making a large cat run and I will get another Maine Coon cause we just love the one we've got to bits.

Andrew would love a highland coo (cow). He fell in love with them in Scotland, and has been obsessed ever since.
Currently we have 3 bunnies (Filleap, Felix and Nox) who have just learned to play nice together, which is really cute, 2 guinea pigs (Mango and Tango), 3 ducks (Sakata, Thin Captain and Quacker Jack - because they're 'quackers' rolleyes.gif ) and chooks (Opal, Obsidian, Peregrine, Kestrel, Aniseed, Mustard, Bruno...)

Piper gets Piper-puppy and Piperee and Piperdee, but mostly just Piper. smile.gif

KiJo, your dogs are gorgeous. They look so soft and fluffy. I didn't know what Australian Shepherds were like but they are very nice looking dogs.

Ollie is a black and white moggie who was given to my then boyfriend for his 21st birthday in 2003. Ollie is an RSPCA rescue, in fact all our pets are. I hadn't previously owned a cat before but I fell in love with Ollie pretty quickly. He is not a really smoochie cat but when the mood strikes him he is affectionate. The thing I love about him the most is his head butts! He will head butt you in the forehead if you lean down for him, it is very cute. When he was a kitten he liked hair and so he'd tried to sleep on our heads, that was kind of cute too. His nickname is Mr O.

She gets 'Oi you!' at lot ph34r.gif Also Kitten, Furbaby but she's usually Isis.

What do you love the most about your pet(s)
She's so pretty! And spotty, I love her spots. She's also a huge sook, loves her cuddles (especially since Hattie has gone to bed) and she hugs you wub.gif

What sort of pet(s) do you have?
A British Shorthair called Teddy

How did you end up getting your pet?
My family have always had cats, and it was always our plan after travelling to have a pet. We chose the British Shorthair breed as they are low allergy, and happy to be left alone for longer periods during the day, as we both work. We found a breeder not too far from us, and originally we had chosen a 'blue' kitten (dark grey in colour). Unfortunately, the two kittens that were born in the litter both had severe respiratory problems and had to be put to sleep. There was another litter born at the same time - two boys of a 'cinnamon' colour, and they were the first of that colour bred in Australia smile.gif We had the choice of either boy, and when we went to pick him out, it was Teddy that came forward and starting playing with hubby straight away...almost like he chose us! He was ours from that moment wub.gif

What are your pet(s) nicknames?
Teddy, Ted, Teddy Bear, Mr Bear, TB...oh the list goes on! laugh.gif

What do you love the most about your pet(s)?
He is our baby - we joke that he will always be our 'first-born'! happy.gif

Most of our friends and family will say that he is thoroughly spoilt, but he is just such a gorgeous character that it is hard not to! I have a feeling that perhaps he has been on this earth before...he seems to understand what we are saying most of the time!

He isn't overly cuddly (he has never willingly sat on my lap for a snuggle) but he is affectionate in his own way. He will follow us around the house when he isn't napping, and sit as close as possible with touching! Every morning he hops up and snuggles beside me to wake me up, and loves a good hard scratch behind the ear smile.gif

He has given us so much love and joy from the short 2.5 years that we have had him, and we couldn't imagine life without his little fuzzy face!

Now to follow from my previous post.

How did you end up getting your pet;
Before DP and I got together I had had my ragdoll for about 5 years and he had his German Sheppherd and Rainbow Lorikeet. For his b'day last year I have made him an IOU voucher for skydiving (as we were overseas at the time) and I had used my funds for the trip. When we were home he was looking at boxers and came across a lady who had one for sale for $300. I agreed that we can use his birthday money to pay for the puppy and that weekend we drove to pick up the Boxer known as George.

My birthday was just over a month later I kept saying that he could get me a cat for my birthday. Originally we had been looking for a Bengal but were struggling to find one with nice markings that weren't soo exxy. Then we came across an advertisement for Maine Coon kittens ready to go. I had seen one years early when I got my ragdoll and instantly feel in love. I had even bought a book about the breed. I asked DP if would he consider a Maine Coon and told him about how big they grow. He then looked at a picture and said "YEAH!!" lol. We then rung the lady about the kittens and it just happened that she had one left, she lived just outside of Melbourne. We then said we would drive down that night to pick him up (8 hours away) and paid way more $$$ then we had originally intended for the Bengal.

I personally think he was waiting for us cause she said that of all the other people that had come to pick a kitten he would go off and hide. That was why he was the last one. And then when we got there he came straight up to us and sniffed as if to say "Yes".

When then checked into a motel and drove him the next day. He was a lot of money but so so worth every penny wub.gif.

What are your pet(s) nicknames;
German Sheppherd - Zharlee - No nickname (if she's nasty we sometime refer to her as Bi@ch ph34r.gif, in a nice way of course)
Boxer - George - I call him Georgie Porgie
Ragdoll - Oscar - We all call him Ossie
Maine Coon - Rushemar (Pedigree Name) - We call him Rush
Lorikeet - Lucky - I call him Lucky Loo
Fish - are called just "fish"

What do you love the most about your pet(s)
They all have there own personalities and I think that is what we all love about them.

Rush is just full of personailty. From the day we got him he was our alarm clock. He has since died down with that but he loves cuddles and like to be apart of the family. Often if we have people over and we're talking on the lounge. He will jump up on the lounge as if he's apart of the conversation.

Oscar - names suits him to the ground cause he is bit of a grouch. Affection is on his terms only.

Zharlee - as mentioned about sometimes she can just be a bit@h. But she is lovely at the same time. We've had such a learning curve with her and now understand the importance of obedience training from as early as possible. There have been times when we've thought it would be easier to surrender her but we could never find it in our hearts to do so and as she's getting older she is getting much better.

George - well his name says it all. George is a big dopey boofy boxer. He is now our naughty dog as he is just getting through his puppy/teenager dog year. We have to hang our washing out the front of the house and keep most things out of his reach. But we love him very much.

Lucky - is cheeky but charming. Loves a conversation and very appreciative when you give him food or change his water with lots of "Thank You's". But you have to be careful as he will trick you in thinking its safe to put your hand in the cage to get his food and then try and have a nip at you when you do. One day DP was outside with my DD and they were sitting next to Lucky's cage. And then lucky moved up very quietly to them both and said in a low voice "Fu#k Off". DP couldn't believe his ears when he heard it.
