Hi All!

FH and I are doing a bit of research and trying to decide on our honeymoon. I have had fantastic help from the girls on my previous thread for a cheap-ish honeymoon to somewhere warm and islandy and have come up with:

Bali
Fiji
Vanuatu
and maybe Thailand but at this stage leaning more toward the others

I would love more info from anyone who has been to these places - particularly Vanuatu as the other girls have given me a lot of ideas re Bali and Fiji (but all info is welcome and greatly appreciated). Also any destinations I may not have thought of (that are not expensive).

We would like to spend a bit of time relaxing by a pool or on the beach, go to markets, see some sights (historic and cultural type stuff), go to a dayspa and get pampered (ok that one is mostly me smile.gif ), eat great food and maybe go snorkelling or diving or something.....

I would like something nice and romantic and comfortable but nothing that is going to cost me half a house or anything! Our budget is around $4000 - $5000 tops.

See Ana - took your advice - have posted budget and activities! smile.gif

Thanks all!
Mel x

I have been to Vanuatu and Thailand. I loved them both but were completely different experiences (could be due to the fact I went to Thailand with friends while DH stayed home, and Vanuatu on our honeymoon)

In Vanuatu we stayed at Iririki Island Resort, in the new apartments. They had not long been completed when we went (April 07). We had booked a garden view bungalow but got upgraded to the new apartments. I loved the accommodation, particularly the big spa out on the balcony - we spent nearly every night in there drinking wine! It cost just under $4000 for us both to go, that was our flights, airport transfers, 7 nights accommodation and a 'discount book' which gave us discounts on a lot of different tours, meals etc. It wasn't cheap in Vanuatu, you paid pretty much what you'd expect to pay in Australia for food and drinks etc. They have markets to wander around in. We only ate off our island once, and that was only because we had a free lunch voucher for a cafe. The food and service at Iririki was amazing, they have 2 different restaurants and the poolside cafe to eat at. We did a couple of tours, a traditional village tour, one to an amazing waterfall, did a sunset cruise on a yacht with champagne and canap├ęs, went snorkeling, and also did a day fishing charter. I'd say we spent at least $2000 there, probably more, but the fishing charter did cost $600. Vanuatu was exactly what I wanted for my honeymoon - hot, tropical, relaxing. It was really beautiful and the people are amazing. I want to go back for our 10th wedding anniversary!

Thailand I also loved. We went to Pattaya, we were originally going to Phuket but we went 5 months after that horrible tsunami came and washed away half of Phuket :-(. Thailand was amazing and CHEAP!! Not sure on costs of getting there as my trip was paid for by my best friends parents and I shared a room with my friend. I think they said it cost them $1700 for me, that was flights, transfers, 16 nights accommodation and breakfast daily. I took $1600 cash with me and came home with about $400. And we did a lot in Thailand and bought lunch and dinner every day. There's so much to see and do - they have pretty great markets where you can get lots of cheap stuff, we did tours and saw shows. I really loved the place and it was quite relaxing too. But also a lot busier, just a completely different feel and pace. Plus the ummmmm night time adults only shows were certainly an eye opener laugh.gif Lots of beauty places too, to be pampered and primped, also very cheap. Lots of "normal" places too like Starbucks, maccas etc which Vanuatu doesn't have, it's more traditional

I'd definitely recommend both places, but like I said they're SO different so I guess it just depends what kind of experience you're after.

Good luck with your decision!!

We went to Vanuatu this January and we also stayed at Iririki. It was fantastic. Can't recommend them enough - in fact my sister is going their for her honeymoon. They were just so hospitable. Our flights were delayed - so we arrived in darkness. On the transfer from the airport to the island FH lost his passport holder - with his passport and all travel documents - arrrrraaagghh!!!
In the morning they called us and had scoured the van we were transported in from the airport and the little ferry and finally found it!
Anyway - yay! Go Vanuatu.

BTW we are planning our wedding (in fact, FH proposed on Iririki Island wub.gif ) and have been considering the Cook Islands. Just throwing it out there!

Vanuatu is nice but the Cook Islands were so much better!

I haven't been to the others but I was going to ask if you had considered the Cook Islands. Rarotonga, the biggest island, ticks all your boxes. We've been there twice and we're looking forward to trip no. 3 in a couple of years.

I know Miss Mel started this thread but it's so lovely to hear reviews of the Cooks Islands - that's what we're going with!

We went to Bali for our honeymoon. We stayed in the Bali Villas in Seminyak. I can tell you they were exactly like they look in the photos! Amazing!!

The food was ok in Bali, the shopping was better!

Cant remember the cost, but it was very affordable for a villa with private pool. We had the option for a chef to come in and cook our meals for us in the outdoor kitchen. It was wonderful!

I wish I had photos on this PC to show you... Anyway, depends on what you're after i suppose. For us privacy was extremely important, so it suited us.

We went to Fiji for our honeymoon, and loved it. We wanted somewhere relaxing, and this definitely fitted the bill. My brother also lives over there, so I've had a few visits and just love it. I haven't been to the other locations, so they may be the same, but we liked how all the locals are all so friendly and will do anything for you, and the whole way of life over there is laid-back.
