Hi All,

I am getting married in December (yay!) and we are looking at Honeymoon options. We are hoping to go somewhere tropical and a bit luxurious but on a budget.

We are hoping to go on our honeymoon in February or March 2013.

We have been told that there are all inclusive packages that work out quite cheap because they include all meals and drinks but I'm trying to find these online and they are either not cheap at all or I can't find what they include!

I've also been told cruising is really affordable but then other people tell me they work out expensive because everything onboard is pricey and you have to buy it from them because you're on a boat!

Was hoping to get ideas and tips from those of you out there that are either planning a honeymoon or have been on a great one!!!!

Thanks guys,

Mel x

Did you want to go on your honeymoon in December (and when)? If that's the case, you will pay more of a premium regardless of where you go as it is the holiday season.

How do you feel about holidaying in Australia? Or do you prefer overseas?

Can you postpone until say February? Bali is always a very cost effective holiday to go on, but probably not in December.

Ps - if you do end up going overseas, I'm not sure whether all inclusive packages really work out to be cheaper... Just my opinion.

Thanks AnA!

I am having one of those mornings, completely forgot to add that we don't want to go on the Honeymoon until Feb or March.... don't want to be travelling in December, too expensive and Christmas time too!!

I am finding that too... the all inclusive packages really don't seem cheaper.

I am thinking about Bali or Thailand but have never been overseas.... have you been to Bali?

Cheers,

Mel

When we looked into holidays in Aus (FNQ, Gold Coast, Perth) it worked out that we would need the same sort of budget as what we had for our honeymoon in Thailand.

We spent around $5000 for 10 days in Phuket (Patong) in total. Even though flights are obviously cheaper domestically, the cost of accomodation, food and activities end up pushing the total cost right up there.

I've not been to Bali, but hear it is cheaper than Thailand.

Could you look into a driving holiday of New Zealand?

I'd recommend you sign up to the Jetstar/Virgin Blue newsletters, and check out their 'happy hours' for deals.

For the very same reasons you mentioned we honeymooned in Bali - 5 star luxury all the way for for a fraction of the cost of a holiday in Tahiti/Australia etc.

I've been to both Thailand and Bali (we travel overseas every year).

Thailand (we honeymooned there) is wonderful but can be more costly then Bali. Bali is a great place to visit - especially when there is a airfare sale on (keep an eye out and be prepared to snap them up within a day). We went last year and paid $1000 for flights (for both of us, direct from Brisbane), had a private villa with private pool for $200/nt (very nice but you can go cheaper if you prefer, as cheap as $60 for a decent room), and food was very cheap (from $5/each for a great meal, up to $150/each for a big fancy degustation meal). Great variety of areas to visit. Pm if you want more ideas re Bali. I dont recommend an all inclusive package for Bali, you will waste your mony. Trip advisor is a great resource.

Like someone else mentioned, a driving trip to New Zealand is an unrated trip - it is such a beautiful country. Fabulous sights, experiences and food - and easy to drive.

And I'll throw another option into the mix - Japan. You can get very cheap flights and it really isn't that expensive.

However if you'd prefer an easier, relaxing tropical holiday, I'd consider Bali as a good option.

Oh and I wouldn't normally point it out - but I've written up a bit of stuff in Bali in my blog (see link in my signature).

Couldn't agree more! We just got back from 10 days in Bali and spent $5000 all up, but could have spent much less if we were being careful (ie we wasted money eating at the expensive resort, spent heaps on paintings etc).

Flights we got for just under $600 each, and then $1000 was spending money/food so the rest was spent on accom which was 5 star and GORGEOUS, we stayed in a Resort in Jimbaran, then a private Villa in Ubud.

I would definitely recommend looking into this option as Bali is certainly a tropical paradise - when you're at the resorts at least! biggrin.gif (and visit a few travel agents for price guides re both flights and accom). Also agree with AnA re Trip Advisor, I spent HOURS in that site before we booked, it's addictive but very informative!

PS - can't go past 1 hour massages for under $10!

We did an all-inclusive package to Fiji which was well-priced. Included all meals, all standard alcoholic beverages and softdrinks, plus airfares and accommodation. I think we spent about $150 on top of that for one tour and some cocktails. While it was in 2007, we paid about $3500 which included an upgrade to an ocean view room.

it is possible to get cheaper all inclusive packages than this too. Look at the last few pages of the travel section in the Sunday Telegraph - there is a travel company that does the all inclusive packages. We've used them twice and had no problems either time.

I agree with beachgurl, Fiji is one of the cheapest places to get to from Sydney and accomadation isn't expensive either. Cousin got married over there and it was gorgeous so I would say well worth checking into and it doesn't seem to have some of the issues Bali does like legionnaires etc.

Out of the places mentioned already, I would pick Fiji over Thailand or Bali (though I did like Thailand).

I also give a nod to the driving holiday around NZ - that is what we did for our honeymoon in March 09, LOVED IT!!!
