I think that you can take advice from your mum but make a final decision that suits your family. I remember the paed telling me that before 6 months they probably will need to wake to feed overnight but after that they don't need it, and to not feed her.

Of course at about 7 months she was wanting to be fed overnight when she had already been sleeping through. Turned out she was having a growth spurt and boosting my supply. She only fed briefly and settled quickly. She stopped waking for a feed about 8 months and slept through.

I think if you do decide to stop feeding her it may be easier to send hubby in to settle because she will smell your milk which may be confusing for her.

Thanks for your replies. I think for now I might just keep going with the night feeds. I'm just not strong enough to deal with the crying. If I feed her she stays half asleep but f I don't she wakes right up and makes me pay!! I think I need to get to a point where I say "enough is enough" before I can put a stop to it!

Thanks for starting this thread FOF, I have been wondering the same thing lately! I too have decided to just keep feeding him, I'm pretty sure he is waking from genuine hunger/thirst and I feel a bit mean denying him that.

I kept feeding my son until he decided to sleep thru on his own accord at 11ish months.

It was so much easier just to quickly feed & pop him back into bed instead of dealing with the crying etc.

Good luck with your decision. Go with your gut & take other's advice with a grain of salt happy.gif
