Reading this thread, I was pretty much nodding in agreement with every comment!

Is it just me, or does anyone else think that maybe the NZ couple weren't cooking in their own kitchen last night? It just reminded me of how my mum can't cook with my oven, because she's not used to it, where as I have no trouble. I'm thinking the producers didn't like their house - maybe couldn't get the right camera angles or something, so they had to cook somewhere else?

Something I hadn't thought of but it does make sense smile.gif

I think all my DH noticed of the whole show last night was that their front door looked like a laundry door tongue.gif

I was wondering last night about that too. They seemed like they didn't "know" the oven that well...I felt bad for them last night.

Another one who hates Thomas here! He was just a tool last night. Everyone was criticizing the kiwis meal fair enough, but he was quite mean (as was Jennifer). But when Pete asked the kiwis if they had problems with the oven and they admitted that they had, everyone else felt terrible for them, and Thomas SMILED!!! That made me hate him even more. I am very interested to see how he and Carla go, I think it would be great if they stuffed up after being so rude to the others.

My favorites are the brother and sister and the army guys.

I hated last year how the show was on Mondays to Thursdays, and really annoyed that they're doing it again this year!

I felt so sorry for them with the oven issues sad.gif but tbh I just wouldn't have done a pavlova, especially not when you're needing the oven for another dish in the meal too!

Even if it had all worked, then it was just pav, creme pat. and cream and fruit blink.gif

Also, her creme patissiere was so runny. When I've made it, it has thickened up while you're making it - it's thick before you put it in the fridge to chill it. How did she think it was miraculously going to thicken if she'd only cooked it to a thin cream consistency?

The entree sounded lovely, but I nearly died when I saw how much they'd cooked the broccoli blink.gif I can't think of any reason why it needs to be cooked past tender, when it is easy enough to blend, has a nicer flavour, and is such a lovely green colour. I would have loved to see how it tasted because it just looked like a big puddle of snot wacko.gif The scallops looked lovely though.

Thomas is a wanker, Jenn is a cow. When they told them about the oven troubles, Jenn kept on making fun of the poor soggy pav, and obviously everyone else was pretty uncomfortable about it.

As for if I'd go on a show like this, I'm a good cook, but don't get to do enough of it at the moment, but I don't know if I'd fold under pressure in something like this biggrin.gif I've had enough times where I've been in tears over something probably quite minor happening if we have guests over, so don't know if I'd want to elevate that to a reality show level biggrin.gif Also, I can make things taste good and cook them well, but my plating is atrocious - I don't have a good eye, and ultimately can't be bothered for just us, so have no practise at making anything look nice. I wish I could go to a course just for making the food LOOK good biggrin.gif

ETA - as soon as they started eating the girls dessert off the tiles the other night, I commented to DH about the awful noise of the cutlery on the ceramic wacko.gif I was about to leave the room because of it, and then they mentioned it too!

I heard last series that the contestants have to submit heaps of recipes and the producers decide what they're cooking from those, which would explain why they sometimes look so flustered with a recipe.

I'm really enjoying it, same as everyone else, Princess makes me want to throw things, Thomas was an srsehole last night. I like the NZ couple and felt terrible for them but I don't understand why they still served the pavs. They knew before mains that the pavs were a fail, so why not use the time to prep something else instead??

I am having a lazy afternoon catching up on all the episodes back to back so I can finally join in. I am just about to watch the pavlova disaster... WHY ARE THEY STILL SERVING THOSE THINGS wacko.gif .

Leigh seems to have only nice things to say about everyone and seems genuine to me.

I agree with everything you said BlueBug, except the above. There is something about Leigh that I really don't like. It's almost as though she is clever enough not to say things herself and is using Jennifer as her mouth piece. Obviously it's all in the editing but she just stares unflinchingly into the camera while Jennifer is saying horrible things about other people... I also thought her "fainting" performance was ridiculous.

And Thomas and Carla, well just dry.gif .

DH & I love it! My favourite is the greek brother & sister - he always makes me laugh.

Last night I said to DH that I wanted to smack him in the face. DH now thinks I'm an angry pregnant woman happy.gif

I can't wait to see what food he produces, I want to know if he's as good as he think he is. Even Manu got annoyed at him last night.

I had no idea (granted, since I've rarely been around the forum the past year or so), but CONGRATULATIONS!! Wonderful news smile.gif

Yeah, I saw it tonight.

Thomas and Carla better cook like their lives depend on it, because they're very quick to lay the boot in themselves.

Funny that the dessert saved them, and the only two that had something bad to say about it was Leigh and Jennifer...

Leigh, Jennifer and Thomas always have a sour look on their face. Even the Kiwis who actually have something to lose by the army boys doing better managed to give credit where it was due.

I would love to know what those boys were thinking when they decided to add kiwi fruit to their entree? Very bad idea!

Do these contestants not do trial runs before hand and taste things. I remember the army boys saying something about I haven't eaten all those things together yet. Why would you serve something that you hadn't tasted before? And if they had done a trial run they would know how long to cook the steak in the oven for.

This makes sense, as they do look incredibly flustered and not entirely sure what they are doing half the time.

DH and I ask each other the same thing! I just don't get it. Chefs wouldn't just make a dish and serve it without trialling it first so why do the contestants?

I know I wouldn't serve something I hadn't tasted before... The steak last night was a disaster, anyone could tell that it had been in the oven for too long (and if there are specific temps, how did they mix it up?).

I'm really looking forward to tonight's show, sounds like little prissy Thomas and his side kick bomb out - mind you, it could be channel 7 playing suspense tricks again...

You took the words right out of my mouth! I really liked Thomas & Carla the first night, it's a shame he's turned the way he has..

Did anyone else notice Jennifer call Thomas 'Tommy' on the preview? It makes me wonder if maybe they've got an alliance away from the filming..? Would you really call someone a nick-name like that if not? They've both got the same attitude. ph34r.gif

hahaha so happy to see Thomas and Carla fall flat on their faces! Especially Thomas. I just can't get over the fact that they thought everyone's scores were unjustified and they should have got higher.

I don't even understand the main course they served up, it didn't seem like anything to do with a day at the polo. And why weren't the cheesecakes done during the initial prep time? And why didn't they taste that lavender top?

Very glad to see that smug look wiped off Thomas' face tongue.gif
