It might be Sarah. It has been really horrible weather the last two nights, I have struggled to sleep past 5.15 myself because I've been too hot, though that could well be a pregnancy thing. Hopefully with the cooler weather that is meant to come you might get a bit of a sleep in. Fingers crossed!

He did so well tonight.

I sat in the chair until he was sleepy and then I stood up at the door. He thought I was leaving and started to protest and I stayed there and 'sshhh'd' him and he laid back down and went to sleep. I was so proud of him.

Probably a crazy question but when your day starts at 5.30 what do you do? Do you guys play at that hour or have quite time reading? Do you start breakfast or wait until the usual time? My CHN was more inclined not to have food earlier as she said it would help cement the habit of waking at that time for milk or breakfast.

When I have been up with him at 5am I have put ABC2 on and just sat there trying to wake up for half an hr. plus he is super whingy because he hasn't had enough sleep.

We try now to leave him till 6 but if that doesn't work we bring him to our bed and sit him up with toys to play with (non walker remember). He has the fisher price music station, for example, and he plays with that while we lie in bed like zombies tongue.gif. Around quarter past 6 or half past 6 we get up and make brekky.

On days I work, I leave home at 625am (dh does drop off and I do pick up so ds has a shorter day at daycare) so he's usually just starting brekky as I leave. Today he woke as I left which was a bit weird! (don't tell dh but I banged around to wake him so I got to say goodbye...doobeedoo)

Keep up the good work, sounds like he's slowly getting there! I remember standing at the door shooshing, and now he turns his back before I even leave the room-I hope you end up with a similar experience. You're doing really well!!!

Ps, I forgot to add... Ds still had two day sleeps at 15 months. He's just not ready to drop one yet. So perhaps that is part of why we find he isn't a captain grumpy pants during the afternoon...

Not saying you should add a second day sleep, just giving a fuller picture.

With the early wake ups I have had to reintroduce the second sleep. He has been going down at 9.30am and sleeping an hr and a half and then doing 45 mins around 2.30pm

If he was to wake at 11am and try and stay up until 7pm would be completely out of the question. I would end up with the most over tired monster!

You know Tresillian save my life and possibly our marriage. I'd glad you have tools to use with Alex now.

As for waking, any time before 6am, he gets the dummy back in his mouth and I walk back out, he's can scream all he wants, but I am not getting him out of bed until 6am. At 6am he gets a bottle. I'm happy to be up then and he'll go back to bed at 11am and to get him back down we need to be seriously active, visits to the park, running around the back yard, swimming, etc.

we have no hope of a second sleep, he's super cranky by 5.30-6.00 and we try to distract with food and get him into bed by 6.30/7

ust think, another 12 years you won't be able to get him out of bed.

Hey Sarah - how is the sleeping going? I hope you aren't getting too many early wake ups.
