So how is everyone going with preperations for big school.

It will be only 2 weeks to go tomorrow. Keira starts on the 31st January. It is coming around quick!!

We have pretty much everything organised now. I got 2 x dresses, 1 x sports uniform, Hat, and School bag before Christmas, then for her birthday off Nan & Pop she got black school shoes and white joggers (both Lynx brand) and I got her a Dora Library Bag and Paint shirt.

Just want to get her a bag tag or some ribbon for her school bag to tell it apart from the others and some socks then we are all set.

H doesn't start till the Thursday 2nd Feb, however they go full days instead of the half days other schools seem to do.

We have the whole uniform, although I still need to label everything.

We got a sandwich box and fruit box the other day. H is a huge fruit eater so wanted to make sure we got a lunch box big enough to put a stack of fruit in it to make sure he doesn't go hungry.

Also got his school shoes (which are actually just black sneakers) from Kmart the other week too. Had to get the next size up as they don't do all black sneakers in his size rolleyes.gif

H is so bored, and I am hating school holidays already!!! Although he still seems pretty 'take it or leave it' towards the whole school thing. We had a playdate with a couple of other boys we sort of know who will be in his class so at least I know he will have someone there he knows.

Weird how all the schools vary with their start days and hours. Keira goes straight to the normal hours of 8.55am - 3.15pm. The rest of the school starts on Monday 30th and Kindy start the Tuesday, so I assume she will be pretty tired after 4 full days of school. Maybe thats why they start kindy a day later so they dont have a full week to start with.

Thats another thing you reminded me about Steph, labelling. I have enough iron on labels but need to get a few more of the vinyl labels, so should get on to that soon!!

School for us starts next week (no idea on hours yet!). The kids are so excited! YAY!
We've already got the uniforms (courtesy of DD1) and I've just paid for the stationery/books etc wacko.gif I actually need to buy DD1 a new shirt as school photos are done in the first week of school.

DD2 just received a letter from her Grade 6 buddy which has really excited her about finally being up at the big school. smile.gif

Rosie starts on Tues 31st. For the first 2 weeks they will finish at 2.30 instead of 3pm. And on the first day they are doing staggered starts for the kindy kids, with each class arriving 15 mins apart. Our start time is 10am, which I am very happy about as we are not great in the mornings tongue.gif

We have everything except the school shoes and we're getting those tomorrow. Last week we bought her a new lunch box and drink bottle. She has a couple of keyrings for her backpack. One of them is a photo keyring with a picture of her beloved teddy bear. She takes him everywhere currently but he won't be joining her at school. We're also going to make him a "house" out of a cardboard box so he will have somewhere nice to live while she is at school.

I have iron on labels plus I bought some of those laundry markers to write her name and class on everything.

Right now R is most excited about the fact that her brother goes back to preschool on the 24th which leaves her with 3 full days alone with me. I'm excited about it too wub.gif

We have everything we need. Although it occurred to me this morning that I will probably need to buy her school jumper/jacket this week or next as, despite it being the middle of Summer, it is still sometimes VERY cold in the mornings here wacko.gif I also need to label everything, thanks for the reminder! happy.gif

The weather has been so weird, definatly hasnt felt like Summer thats for sure. Thats what I was thinking I might need to get, a school jacket/jumper. It's been cool, but not THAT cool if you know what I mean, so I dont know what to do. Guess it wont hurt to get one just in case. Might have to do that tomorrow!!

I ordered H's uniform months ago, he has zero fat on him so feels the cold easily so decided to be cautious and got a jacket and a pair of long pants for him. I am so glad I did now!!!! Mind you the jacket was standard in the kindy starter pack so I guess they realise it can get a little cold before the winter orders arrive.

As for school starting times, I was talking to a friend the other day and she said her son is starting on the 31st but will finish early at 2.30 for the first month of school. Sounds great for the kids but how do parents that work do it??? We would be stuffed!

Going up to the school today to meet H's teacher and to do the best start assessment, then I have the day off on Wednesday to spend with H before he starts on Thursday.

2nd week in and we're going fabulously. smile.gif By Friday last week, we were all a bit tired, Mummy included blush.gif

DD2 is really settling in now and making new friends, although still plays with the girls she knows from last year mostly. I think all the kids are being tested this week for numeracy and literacy.

Rosie started today and had a really good day. She had a wobble when we left the house this morning, about leaving her teddy behind for the first time ever, but we had a good chat on the walk to school and she was happy when we got there. No tears from either of us as we said goodbye, although I could feel my eyes welling up.

I have been worried as all mums are about how she would go in a new environment and how she would get along with her teacher. I noticed that they had given her a name tag that said Rose despite me advising them that she prefers Rosie. When I was giving her a final hug I told her that she could tell the teacher that she likes to be called Rosie, and she replied "Mummy I've already told her." So I don't think I need to worry about her too much tongue.gif

Keira was so excited that it took her ages to get to sleep last night then she was up at 5.45am this morning keen to get her uniform on. So I thought for sure there would be no tears. I held it together but Keira didnt, I gave her a kiss goodbye and her eyes started watering and by the time I had got out of the room she was bawling and being consoled by the teachers aide. Apparently the tears didnt last long though and she was happy when I picked her up. She is keen to go back tomorrow. It must of taken alot out of her though as she fell asleep on the floor when we got home and slept for an hour!!

Here is a pic of Keira this morning all ready to go.
