I was just wondering who else has a child heading off to school next year? Are they/you getting excited or nervous?

Rosie starts at our local public school. She'll be 5.5 and after 2 years of preschool she has really blossomed and her confidence has soared, so I'm feeling confident that she is ready. She went to a transition session a couple of weeks ago and strolled inside the classroom with a "buddy" from the current kindy class with scarcely a backward glance, so that was a good start.

She's not too keen on the uniform - green checked tunic and green hat. What, no pink and sparkles Mummy?? laugh.gif

It helps that her cousin is starting at the same school, as is R's best friend from preschool. But going 5 days a week (preschool is 3 days) is going to be a big change for all of us. And her new school is big - over 800 kids - so that will take some adjustment. But their resources are fantastic and everything I've heard is very positive.

Anyway I'd love to hear about your preparations and emotions for this new stage smile.gif .

Keira is starting next year and is going to our local Catholic School.

She is really excited about it. She will be 5 in January and has been going to Pre-School for the last 2 years (1 day a week the first year and 2 days a week this year)

Last Friday she had her first orientation day (1 hour in the morning) and she has another 1 hour session this Friday, and then a 2 hour session next Friday and there will be a 1 hour parent info session that day too. She said she enjoyed herself at the first orientaiton and she came home with a drawing of our family.

Keira's uniform will be blue and maroon.

There are 3 kids that she knows from Pre-school in her class and 1 girl from her Ballet class. There is 26 kids in total in Kindy next year.

Myself, I was alright about it all until I entered the classroom on Friday at her orientation, then it really hit me. I am really happy for her though and am looking forward to just some Mummy and Liam time while she is at school. Might even be able to do a few more hours work, with Liam hopefully going to Daycare or Pre-school 2 days a week next year.

Yes DD2 officially starts prep next year. She's busting something and whilst we've been at the school for 3 years now and DD2 being in their pre-prep program, it still is an exciting moment for her so we have to make sure we make a big deal out of it.

DD2 turned 5 in July, so will be 5.5 by the time school starts back. We have about 15 kids moving up from the pre-prep program into prep, so it'll be great, but I am actually really excited about her making some new friends too. They had an orientation day a couple of weeks ago now and the new students also came along so she was pretty excited by it all!

Our uniform is dark blue - shorts & shirts. It has a brown and white trim, but it's the school badges I'm not particularly looking forward to. DD1 lost 7 in her first year!!!!

Claire, wow 26 kids! There will be 6 classes with 20 kids in each starting kindy with Rosie next year. I hope she copes ok with the crowd unsure.gif

ACL, I didn't realise our daughters were the same age. Rosie turned 5 in July too!

I've heard school jumpers are a killer for being lost. Can't wait for winter wacko.gif

Another one here. After two years of kinder, she is most certainly ready for school. She is going public and is very excited her uniform is purple. They only allow 21 to a class which I am happy with. There will be 3 full prep classes next year.

Charlotte is starting school next year too. She turns 5 in December, and is quite excited about starting. She is going to our local public school which is quite small - the kindy grade next year is considered a 'big' one at 31 kids, so they'll have one straight kindy, and one K-1 composite. I think the whole school only has 8 teachers. The uniform is pretty dreadful - brown and yellow! But I'm very thankful it will stop the arguments about what she has to wear each morning.

Although I think she is ready socially and developmentally, the largest adjustment will be separation from her brother during the days, and even though I know its actually a good thing, I'm a little bit sad about it too. At the moment they go to the same pre-school (a Montessori) 3 days a week where they spend the morning in age-based classrooms (so different rooms), but in the afternoons they play together. On the other two week days they are together with my mum or our nanny. I think my son might actually have a harder time being apart from DD1 than vice versa, but I have noticed them getting on each others nerves alot lately, so maybe it will actually be a good thing for them!!

DD is at school next year too, she is so excited! Me too actually, I think she will love it.

For the past year she has been in a pre-prep program (5 day fortnight) and 5 of her classmates are going to the same school as her.

She is pretty excited to go to the school where most of the other children she knows also go smile.gif

H starts next year as well. He will be 5.5 years. We did orientation the other week and lets just say he was not very happy to start with!!! He did come back with a smile, but he is so shy despite being in the preschool attached to the school for the last six months!

His uniform swims on him. He is all skin and bone and the smallest shorts we can get are a size four, he is currently wearing size two shorts!!! Think I might have to get the sewing machine out and sew some extra elastic in them laugh.gif

He is going to the local school which is a five minute walk up the road from home. They have 18 in kindy next year. The whole school only has 120ish students!!! It is so small the principle knows every family by name and all the kids know each other.

Lizzzard I am with you on the separation from their sibling. I am not sure how my two will go without each other. At the moment they are in the preschool attached to the school (actually in one of the schools classrooms!) and they spend all day together and then at home too. Even the girls at preschool said they aren't sure how they will go, especially as H keeps A under control a lot of the time!

My little one will be closer to 3 when DD starts and he is ok with her being at kinder atm but I think 5 days a week is going to be a huge shock to his system. I have plenty of activities planned for him next year and also hoping to put him in Occasional care for two 1/2 days a week as we are going to start him at 3yo kinder in the second half of the year.

It's lovely to read everyone's stories!

My 2 kids have been at the same preschool all this year, but in different classes and they have separate playgrounds, although the staff are happy for them to spend time with each other if they want to. Eddie goes 2 days a week and Rosie is there 3 days. E actually really enjoys his day alone with me, being the centre of attention tongue.gif. Next year he will go 3 days and I'll probably enrol him in dancing and sport on the other 2 days to keep us occupied.

I think Rosie will miss him a little and will probably miss me as well. After being fairly self contained until the age of 5, she is being more affectionate and clingy recently. I don't know if that is related to starting school or just an age thing.

Well we are not really starting full school but Cate starts kindy next year which is a big thing for us too.

It is part of the local primary school and is 3 full days one week and 2 full days the next. We have our orientation next Monday to find out days etc and for Cate to meet her teacher.

I am not really sure how Cate will go. She goes to daycare 2 days a week at the moment and loves it but she is the type of child that can take awhile to settle in so we will see. I am not sure whether any of the kids from her daycare will be going to kindy with her but I am hoping there will be a couple at least.

The uniform is light blue shirts and dark blue skirt/shorts so nothing to horrible :-) They can wear a dress if they want to as well but I think shorts/skort is a bit better for active kids so will go with that.

Keira would love India's class, she doesnt like boys!!! Out of the 26 kids in Keira's kindy year there is 12 girls and 14 boys so a little bit more even.

Keira attended her first school assembly last week at orientation. Her orientation was the second session which went from 10-11am so she had to sit through the rememberance day assembly where they had a minute silence and sang the national anthem. I asked her what she thought of it and her response was that she was bored!

Emmy starts school in January also!!! I am very excited, as after 4 years at family day care she really needs the extra stimulation! We have been to the prep orientation and bought the uniforms, now just excitedly waiting!!

She is going to our local Catholic school and her uniform is maroon and white smile.gif There are 3 prep classes (around 20 kids in each) and she'll know 1 little boy from FDC, and 1 girl from swimming!

Penny will be starting at one of the international schools up here in PNG next January. School goes back on the 25th January and she will turn 5 on the 27th.

Penny is already at preschool 5 days a week and most of her classmates will be going through with her next year. She already goes to the "big school" on Wednesdays for computer and library and Fridays for swimming. We also take both our girls to ballet and another swimming lesson there on Saturday so she is very familiar with the site.

They have had 2 x orientation sessions and Penny has thrived both times. She introduced herself to the "big" prep kids and had a blast!

Her school is quite big and her year will have at least 75 students in three classes but they are considering adding another class as the demand is quite high.

Penny is so excited about going to big school! She can't wait to wear the uniform and go to her new classroom.
