What actors do you like to see? I'm not necessarily referring to those who are outwardly attractive, but those who you admire for their craft.

Mine would be:

Jeremy Irons
Maggie Smith
Dame Judi Dench
Ben Kingsley
James Wood
Tom Hanks

When compiling this list, I realised the actors I find have sex appeal aren't the ones I like to watch for their acting ability? Maybe it's because they just ooze magnetism, it makes up for it? Am happy to stand corrected. happy.gif

Oh good post.

I'll have to come back and post when I am more awake but one definite for me is: Sean Connery. I really enjoy watching him act.

The actors I admire the most for their craft would be:

Johnny Depp;
Robert Downey Jnr;
Cate Blanchett;
Meryl Streep;

As for pure enjoyment...

I'm a huge Brad Pitt fan, I also love Kate Hudson and am really loving Bradley Cooper's movies at the moment.

I agree Nep, the actors I enjoy watching aren't necessarily for their outward appearance, but the general magnetism, 'presence' and acting chops of those listed below has drawn me to their films. (Even though some of those films may have been dreadful!)

Edward Norton
Maggie Gyllenhaal and her husband Peter Saarsgard
John Malkovich (I admit he is rather typecast these days)
Jeremy Irons
Helen Mirren
Johnny Depp (yes, he is gorgeous but also a damn fine actor!)
Meryl Streep
Susan Sarandon
Liev Schreiber
Ben Kingsley
Judy Davis

I know there are more but that's all I can think of this morning. Interesting to note that they are all over 30 and many well into their 50's. I'm struggling to think of an actor in their 20's that I admire!

Robin Williams
Alan Rickman

Tom Hanks and Johnny Depp.

Both without doubt are the most talented actors of my time to date. (IMO, of course)

I really like Hugh Laurie and Alan Rickman (although I admit I do find them sexy as well), Billy Bob Thornton, Mandy Patinkin and Laura Linney.

I'm also watching Parenthood at the moment and the boy that plays Max is excellent.

For me it's always been Leonardo DiCaprio. Yes he is gorgeous but he is such an amazing actor. He was robbed of an Oscar for What's Eating Gilbert Grape.

My happy little boy!

Same. I can see he's physically attractive, but he's never appealed to me - honest! biggrin.gif I think he's an amazing actor. He's very versatile from What's eating Gilbert Grape to Basketball Diaries to the Aviator. He's one of the few actors which make me forget I'm watching the real life celebrity, and make me believe in the character.

Agreed. I also love Kate Winslet. I think she's physically gorgeous but I love how she chooses a lot of quirky roles over blockbusters (most of the time). I will generally always watch a movie she's in because I'm guaranteed to either love it or at least find it interesting.

I'm a fan of Brad Pitt I was blown away by his acting on his film The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.
