I paid top $$ for my wedding cake from a very well known Sydney cake specialist and wasn't very happy with the taste of the cake itself on the day (although it looked exactly as I wanted it).

I found out later that they outsource the cake itself and decorate it in house. I'd double check that they make AND decorate it and I'd make sure the cake you taste is exactly the same as the cake they give you on the day.

I bet I know who you are talking about!

And yes I feel there is more to wedding cakes then what they look like, they must be made with the best ingredients and taste as good as they look!

I have heard this too...and I bet I know who you are talking about!

They do outtsource and I know who they outsource to! You can go to this place and purchase too.

I quoted for the cake I mentioned above and it turned out to be $560 so was pretty close. i lost my previous recipe for the white choc and raspberry mud, so I have just trialled another and given pieces to neighbours and husband...all have come back and requested another...with payment (except hubby, of course)!

Oh, and a couple of weeks ago completed my daughters birthday cake. If I was quoting that to a client, they should be sitting down b/c it ended up being around $1200. Anyone want a pic? Maybe I should head to the kids birthday cake thread.

I do it by word of mouth. Easiest way for me at the moment as Í'm busy with the 3 kids plus my makeup business.

Here's a pic of the castle and Belle.

Just beautiful, I commented on your flickr photo.

You are busy! I can imagine with 3 kiddlets it's hard, I have trouble fitting cakes in around 1!

I recgonise your beautiful shoe and handbag cake and realise we are both on another forum (although I don't post much)

Happy Caking! biggrin.gif

I hope our children never become friends lest you shame me and my collapsed/ burnt chocolate surprise.

So agree - you get what you pay for. Unfortunately some wedding businesses aren't as respected as others - like the cake decorators, us invitation stylists get 'but it's just a bit of paper'! I hate it, it's very over-simplistic and whilst I have nothing against those people that need / want cheaper than what I do, that's fine but don't knock the craft at the same time - there's lots of talent and work in designing and creating for both cakes and invitations and no.... not everyone can do it either.

lol...Never LJM. I never compare. Everyone does the best they can for theiir kids. I just happen to love making cakes. One of my daughters friends Mum said she was embarrased about her cake compared to mine. I told her NOT to be. I am not looking and writing on my clpboard and giving a mark out of 10! But, am always happy to help people if they want to make a special cake. Have even offered to make peoples 'base cake'. anyway...I digress...this is about wedding cakes being so costly....

Indigo - so agree with you. Both are an art.
