Anyone watching The Block at the moment? I haven't watched it since the very first season years ago, so I was pretty excited about it.

So far, I'm completely underwhelmed. The people are all really lovely, but I just find their design style so boring. It's driving me nuts, because I feel like great, innovative interior design is much more out there these days with amateur blogs and such, and I'm just surprised they aren't trying harder, or that they didn't choose people with more interesting styles.

Hopefully it will get better as they get more confident!

laugh.gif It could be that I just have no style myself, but I'm loving it!!! With the room reveals tonight, the only one I didn't like was Polly and Waz's room. It looked appalling and they can't blame their lack of renovating experience on that, it was purely their decorating skills which were shocking!!

I've watched every series of The Block and love what they're doing this time round...

I'm into renovating but not super into design myself so I'm liking it. Although having said that I don't watch it every night. I like that they don't have to go to their jobs this time and I do like that they have other mini challenges just to mix things up a bit. Although if they didn't have it on every night they wouldn't need to do this. Not really keen that it's on every night.

Polly and Waz's room was terrible. But I don't understand how Tania and Rod only got one point more than them. I thought their room wasn't that bad.

I love any reno shows but honestly the show could screen for 15 minutes if they got rid of all the ads.

I really like the couples and love that they are houses this year. I think it is only just beginning. I wasn't really into any of the rooms this week but I can't wait till they are working on the back of their houses and rebuilding entire rooms

watching and enjoying it apart from the millions of ads, the numerous challenges (its not the amazing race ppl!!) and the repeats of everything after said ads!! We just watched this part, stop dragging it out and just get on with the renos!!

I must say though, so far its been more about decorating than renovating, so hoping that improves as time goes on.... and I like that Scotty has skills and experience and isnt just there cuz he's a pretty boy. How he helped Josh and Jenna last night was brilliant

Last season was way better. They dont seem to be focusing on the renovating at hand as much as they should, its what the show is about but they have all these other challenges and tones of ads. What they show in a wk if they cut the cr@p they could put it in a one hour episode.

Maybe i just like last yr's couples better laugh.gif

Ooh yes please! Is it a nice location? I'm surprised they managed to find 4 derelict houses next to each other for this show.

I'm loving it so far, like LSP I have no design sense! tongue.gif I only started watching since last season and it's definitely more interesting with a whole house than an apartment.

I think Rod & Tania will win overall, but their room was awful...there was so much stuff in there and a bit too over-renovated for my liking.

I love it !! Missed a few eps so hubby downloaded and the 30 min shows are are 21 mins with no ads tongue.gif

Polly and Waz can improve on their design, at least the execution was ok.

Josh and Jenna deserved the win, great design and restraint. Nothing was added to the room that didn't need to be there, loved it.

Rod and Tanis also good but too much stuff in the room !!!! I did love the fireplace though, how nice would it be to push that bed out of the way and ummm snuggle up on the shaggy carpet in front of that fireplace ph34r.gif laugh.gif

If the girls had used a blind instead of those fugly curtains I think they would of won. I loved their room except for the blinds and the painted feature thingy behind the bed. I love how they left the exposed brick which I though was going to look shite.

I'm driving past on Sunday to have a peek !!

Maybe I'm being too harsh, lol! I guess I'm somewhat forgetting that at the end of all this they have to sell the house and make the most money, and it's hard to sell a house with too much of a personal stamp on it. The rooms are nice, after all, but I've probably been spending too much time on interior decorating sites (which are more people decorating their own homes, their own way). I think I just expect to be wowed when i watch a show about renovating and decorating, and so far I haven't really seen anything that makes me think 'I want my house to look like that!' (the way I do a million times a day on Apartment Therapy and the like).

Doesn't stop me from looking forward to it though - I do love a good competition at the end of the day!

The houses are in Richmond which is very close to the CBD, shopping and eatting district. Having said that, it's not the nicest part of Richmond but like you said, it would of been hard to find 4 derelict houses.

This is some of the information I have found about the show

"The entire block from 33 - 43 Cameron Street Richmond was advertised for sale in July 2010 with approved planning permit PL06/0042 to building a 3 storey building for 16 apartments plus basement car parking.

The house next to House one was actually demolished so they could have their dumping ground that you see on TV

This is a picture of how they looked before and then what Ch 9 did before the show started filming

IPB Image

The house that used to be next to House 1 - which was demolished to make room for trucks, building stuff etc.

IPB Image

Jenna & Josh - House 1. Single story double fronted. The only house to remain single story. My favourite of the 4. Garden was lovely although you can't tell in the photos

IPB Image

Polly & Waz - House 2. Single fronted with second story

IPB Image

Katrina & Amie - House 3. Single fronted with second story. Was really disappointed with this one. Looks unfinished in the front like they ran out of money or something.

IPB Image

Tania & Rod - House 4. Single fronted with second story. Was painted quite dark (didn't get a good photo).

I've seen every episode except one ph34r.gif I also watched last season.

I preferred last season, when there was more of a focus on the renovating and design rather than the challenges and 'twists' of this season. I like watching closely how they do each room and pick out the design elements which seems to be missing a bit this season, even though it's on everyday! They don't seem to actually be in the house that much!

With the first rooms, I liked the girls' best and then Josh and Jenna's. I loved the fireplace that Tania and Rodd did. I agreed with the judges that Polly and Waz's room was boring and a bit oddly put together. They really needed something on the walls at least, it was so bland.

I agree that Tania and Rod were ripped off a bit, to only get one more point than Polly and Waz. There room was much better, and not that much worse than the other two. Yes, it was a bit crowded but it was still very nice.

My thoughts exactly! I would rather them just focus more on the designing and the bitching ph34r.gif Last season's couples were good because there were a few fireworks and controversies which made it a bit more interesting, the constant challenges and recaps are so annoying!

I liked the format last year, i think it was on 3 nights a week, that was enough, i think they are padding it out with challenges to make it go over the 5 nights.

Also, what is with Shelley Craft wacko.gif

Thanks for all the photos SK. I love seeing what they've done. I do think it's a bit odd that 3 are single fronted/double story and 1 is double fronted/single story but I guess it's hard to find 4 the same in a row in need of renovation. I'm surprised how focused on design they are this year but I like the scoring system, how they get feedback and I think it will be really interesting when they rebuild. I wonder if they get any say in the design... Probably not as I imagine the DA's would have gone through council prior to the show starting.

Marissa, i never thought about DA's before.. thats interesting.. It is certainly portrayed that they make the decisions themselves, but they must not of!

Isn't house 1 bigger than the others? with more land space? that could be why it is single story, and the others double?

Im really looking forward to the back end of the houses, i think actually building frames etc will be more intersting than which pillows to use wink.gif
