hi ladies!!!

Im here Im here, on the "other side!!"

I have been meaning to pop in here but ive been so busy and quite overwhelmed trying to get the hang of everything.

Harper is wonderful, we are having some issues with constipation so we have switched her to a different formula but that hasnt helped...its hard seeing her poor little face go all red trying to poo. We tried breast feeding of course, I had my heart set on it so it was really a sad time when I had to make the decision to switch to formula - but my body just wasnt working properly, sigh....

Amy - hun those feeding times are awsome - yaaay! what a good little boy. Thinking about bub number 3? wow....we are not even sure if we want number 2!! hahhaa. there is a lot to weigh up isnt there?!

ooh gotta run miss Harper is awake, ill be back for more personals later.

xx

Amy, I'm super jealous of those feed times!!! I can't even imagine 5 hours between feeds at the moment. I wish I could!! sleep.gif Jack has been very unsettled again for the past few nights, screaming from about 6pm til 10pm unless he is being fed, and then waking 2 hourly overnight *YAWN* I'm thinking he has a bit of mild reflux combined with his 6 week growth spurt. It's hard work, but he is totally worth it!! wub.gif I've booked in for Jack to see an osteopath next Friday, so hopefully they help. Any opinions on this (stalkers allowed!!)?

Kate, good to see you here. I've been stalking Harper's photos on FB. She is adorable!! Sorry your body wouldn't co-operate with BF, but at the end of the day, a happy and healthy mum and bub is all that matters. I hope you can sort out the constipation issue. I think it's a bit of trial and error formula wise for most babies.

Sam, Donna & Tori, how are you guys? Hope all is going well! Just waiting on Jazy and Piper now... Sounds like neither will be too far away from meeting their precious bundles and joining us over here biggrin.gif

I'm also pretty chuffed with those feeding times- 5 hours between feeds feels blooming FANTASTIC. Now, just to make sure he keeps that up....

Klu- I think you deserve a massive pat on the back for deciding to switch early and doing what works. I'm a big breastfeeding fan, but I think it's stupid when people put themselves and their babies through all kinds of pain in an effort to breastfeed- for what reason? Sometimes, for nobody's fault, it just doesn't work. Your baby needs to eat, bottom line. Sorry for the mini-rant here, my cousin decided that she wanted to feed at all costs and her baby ended up in hospital with failure to thrive before she'd listen to anyone tell her to at least try formula for a while, while she built her supply back up. It makes me sad to think of how hungry her little one must have been..... sad.gif

Photo's of Harper are gorgeous, you must just sit around staring at her all day! Adorable smile.gif I totally get what you mean about being busy, the only reason I'm on here so much is because I've worked out a system where I can prop my laptop up, feed and type all at the same time. Keeps me sane at crazy hours of the morning!

BD- Reflux sucks sad.gif It's awful seeing them in that much pain and barely being able to do anything. Guy had gas he couldn't bring up a few nights ago and just wouldn't settle for hours and hours- I was about to pull my hair out. He slept on my chest that night!

ok Im back, Harper is down for a nap.

Amy/BD - girls I cant describe how much your support about BF/Formula feeding has made me feel better. TBH I have been terrified of actually coming out and saying yes, I gave up and yes I am bottle feeding my baby, the hospital made me feel like a lepper - even tho it was their own lactation consultant who (after manually expressing for 2 days and having hardly anything) told me that yes my supply was too low and that it "should" eventually catch up but who knows when! Harper was beside herself with hunger and I thought there was nothing coming out so once I had 2 midwives and the lactation lady confirm that my supply was low, I made the decision. But they are so pro-breastfeeding (which i understand of course, breast milk is best for bubs) that they neglect any mothers who bottlefeed. there was one little locked room where i could make formula, and it wasnt even in the maternity wing - it was in the childrens wing! i had a c-section so wasnt very mobile, but because i wanted to feed my baby myself I had to (with Harper, pushing her along in her little crib the whole way):
-walk to the midwives station and get the key
- walk out of the maternity wing and next door to the childrens wing
- walk down the long corridor to the one little allowed formula room
- make a bottle
- lock the room
- walk back to the midwives station to return the key
- walk to the kitchen to heat the bottle
- walk back to my room to feed harper
I left hospital after only 2 days and 3 nights because i couldnt stand it!! there were so many rooms that could have been set up for breastfeeding AND bottle feeding. i wish i could have breastfed and my god i tried and tried and tried, but in the end i didnt want my baby to starve!!!

ah, feels good to get that off my chest. so anyway girls, thank you thank you for being supportive!!!!

Amy - i am trying to picture feeding and using the laptop at the same time - i cant!! hahaha, clever girl!!!

BD - Harper is always unsettled between 10pm - midnight....funny how they have their cranky times ah!

Klu- that is terrible! They should be better prepared!! My OB said I needed to be prepared as it was very very likely I wouldn't be able to breast feed with my arthritis in my arms (I do BF after she put me through all that smile.gif)
I know a few mums who wanted to BF but for whatever reason it didn't work, and they DID try and want to feed!! And it tortured them to make what I think is the RIGHT decision! Bubs need food! I see no reason to shame mothers for feeding their babies!
Good on you for making the switch!

Amy - YES! ME!! A couple of weeks ago I decided that we NEED another baby!! But we will wait until 2013. smile.gif

Um I had more but Immy is hungry. I'll be back xo

Hey Hey Ladies...Yay I can now join you on the other side wub.gif I have not had a chance to catch up on any reading yet but will do over the next few days. Then I will be able to better join in the conversations.

Hope everyone is settling into being home with their gorgeous babies wub.gif Levi has been fantastic...feeding 3-4 hourly and sleeping like a trooper. Klu I just noticed you are bottle feeding too...I know how tough can be to make the decision. I am bottle feeding here too...it did not work out with my daughter and had the same problems with Levi. So made the decision to bottle feed. WAt the end of the day you need to make the decision that is best for you and your baby wub.gif

Will come back over the weekend to catch up properly wub.gif

Good Luck to Jazy & Piper wub.gif wub.gif

Klu- I can't believe the hospital would put you through that! It just seems ridiculous- I can understand why they promote breastfeeding, but to make you go through that- it's downright disgusting, really. Not to mention that by this point, your poor little baby is probably screaming her guts out having had to wait 30 minutes for you to go through this whole procedure! I'm so sorry you had to go through all that sad.gif

Tori- Yay, more babies! wub.gif

MM- Welcome to the 'other side'! Sounds like little Levi is doing really well!

Jaz- Hopefully not too much longer for you now smile.gif

Hey Karli

Eliza has reflux/colic and it sucks sad.gif It is horrible watching her in pain and struggling to catch her breath because she doesn't stop screaming. We went to the physio/chiro last week, and for us it helped her neck, but the next few nights were 10 times worse than they had been. Could have been a coincidence, who knows, but it was horrible. We are going back again as her neck needs more work (she can only just turn it to one side, a lot less movement than the other side). What has helped the last few nights is Des Lardner's Colic Mixture. It is made in Horsham (though could be available through other Advantage pharmacies as he did sell the rights to them a while back) and can be sent to you if you order it over the phone. It smells a bit funny, but Eliza has been a completely different baby since we started using it.

Tori - that is great that you have been successful with BF - yaaay!! Thanks hun - I feel I made the right decision.

MM - Welcome to the other side!! hahaha! I am so glad Levi is feeding and sleeping well. It will be great to be able to share advice and experiences with bottlefeeding too.

Hi Jazy - good luck hun for your big day!!

Amy - thanks hun yes I was pretty disgusted...and your right, poor Harper was not impressed about the giant mission we went on before she got fed. at least I am home now and that is all behind me.

Piper - looking forward to seeing you here too.

AFM - The whole family went for our first walk today - mum, dad, Harper and Rocky & Aprilia (our staffys). It was soo nice to get out of the house! Harper has been a bit unsettled, her constipation is giving her a bit of pain still and she had a bit of wind..poor little girl, she has been quite grumpy.

wub.gif wub.gif wub.gif

Klu- Your first outing, hooray! It takes so much to get out of the house, but it's so worth it. We went out yesterday purely because I was going stir crazy inside the house laugh.gif Sorry to hear she's still having problems with constipation- poor thing sad.gif Are you thinking of changing her formula again or waiting to see if this one settles down?

AFM- Today is Day One of Operation 'Be a Real Parent'- AKA My husband's first day back at work. So far, I'm doing okay. Little Baby is in bed and Big Toddler is about to go down for his nap, and then I'll have a whole blissful HOUR to myself before the little one needs feeding again. I was really worried about today but Guy co-operated and only woke once overnight, and my toddler has been uncharacteristically well behaved. Goal for today is just to survive, goal for tomorrow is to get to playgroup. Just taking this one day at a time.

So, so sick of leaking though. I was given a false sense of security in the first week or so, I didn't leak at all, but now all I have to do is think about the baby and 'drip, drip, drip'. I've got to be so careful in public and all of my shirts have white milky stains on them wacko.gif Last night I was tired and he took a while to latch on, he was so wet afterwards that I had to change his entire outfit!

Speaking of breastfeeding, I've got about three shirts that are breastfeeding friendly, and I'm sick to death of them. What is everyone else wearing? (I've heard you can wear normal singlets under t-shirts, but I can't quite see how that makes it easier?). Help?

Sorry, just stumbled on this thread and had to firstly say Congratulations to you all.

Secondly Klu - I am so sorry they put you through hell at the hospital!!! I also had no supply and a very, very hungry baby. First time they didn't even tell me there was a problem so went home with a hungry baby sad.gif I will never forgive myself for not moving to formula earlier sad.gif Second baby they did take me aside and say we aren't meant to say this but formula might be the best bet for you guys. Also Klu my second one had bad constipation and wind as well so I know the hell of that. I have no idea if you are interested or not but I found Novalac constipation formula a god send. You can only get it from the chemist which is a bit of a pain, but not nearly as painful as a constipated bub!!

Good luck to you all and enjoy your little bundles of love!!

*Arrivals*

AK2- Amy- 9th July, 2011- Guy Elliot
~Piper~ - Rosy- 24th July, 2011- Eli Keith
Jazy84 - Jaz- 25th July 2011 - Alison Hana

Congratulations Jazy and Piper and welcome to Alison & Eli!!! wub.gif wub.gif And even numbers of boys and girls, too! Can't believe we're done already. We did have a lot of early birds. It's nice that everyone can move over to this thread now.

April, thanks for your advice re: reflux/colic. Jack was much more settled last night, somaybe I jumped the gun a bit and it was related to his growth spurt? I'm hoping so, anyway! I've been using Infants Friend, too, so maybe that's helped a bit. I think I'll keep our appt with the osteo on Friday regardless, and just see how we go. DH has 3 days off after that, so if Jacks more unsettled, at least I'll have help!!

Klu, how good does it feel to get out of the house? I try to take Jack for a walk most days, but the weather has been so ordinary here it's sometimes hard to get out. I go a bit nuts on those days!!

Amy, I'm struggling with BF tops too. I grabbed a couple of cheap ones from Kmart, but they're super thin and terrible quality! They are much easier to feed in though! I'm waiting for a nice day to go for a drive to the next biggest town as apart from Kmart and Big W, no where here stocks ANY maternity or BF clothes!! Maybe I should go into business?! laugh.gif Apart from that, I'm getting by in BF singlets and normal tops, just pulling the top up and my tummy stays covered.

We just got back from Jack's first lot of immunisations. Apparently they now do them at 6 weeks rather than 8 due to the whooping cough epidemic. He screamed for about 30 seconds, then promptly fell asleep! He's feeding now but seems OK. Hopefully it lasts! Any advice from others? I was a bit worried that he would be unsettled, because last night was our first decent night in 3 days!! I was hoping that would last a bit longer...

Most welcome Karli. Eliza's worsening could have just been a coincidence, who knows. Everyone else I have spoken to has said they had great results with physio/chiro/osteo. Trust my child to go against the grain
