Keira has an interview with the school principal on Wednesday at our local Catholic School.

We dont go to Church, but they were both baptised there.

What sort of questions will the principal ask?? Obviously I will do most of the talking and I can see now Keira will go all shy and probably not say anything!!

Im a little nervous.

DH is Catholic, I am not. I am hoping he doesnt ask too many religious questions!!

Kaia is at a catholic school, neither of us are catholic and she isnt yet baptised either.

The interview was lovely, although I was terrified before! I had a full speech rehearsed and it made the prinicpal smile, apparently not necessary but I needed to prepare, lol!

We weren't asked any religious questions, but I was asked about my baptism as it was in a church in his home town! We were asked if we would be willing to attend church for school ceremonies and that Kaia would be required to attend church as part of her education, a given seeing as it is a Catholic school! We were told about the schools relationship with the local parish.

Also why you would like your child to part of their community, what our occupations were, what we liked to do as a family, how long we had lived in the area, whether we would be willing to volunteer at the school and our hopes and dreams for our child.
We were informed of the schools policies regarding all education and religious education, the hours our child would be attending and then took a school tour.

He also interacted with Kaia, asking her a few questions and reading a book together with some added questions and he also observed her playing with the toys in his office.

We asked about class sizes, number of teachers aides and the schools academic rating and how individual needs would or could be met.

We were offered a position on the spot and I cannot believe how relieved I was!

Remember that you are interviewing them also, a great tip I received before hand!

Good luck lovely, Keira would be an asset to their school x

I work in an Anglican school and as far as I'm aware the interviews are nothing to be scared of although alot of parents are! They do expect the child to attend CRS classes and Chapel once a week and parents are expected to be involved with the school (within reason of course). The Principal has a chat to the child and if they are older they ask what they are interested in and what subjects they like. He also asks the parents what they expect from the school. I think they like to keep it very friendly and low key and then the parents do a tour of the school afterwards.

One thing I would advise is to speak up about any concerns or issues you may have no matter how small you think they are. You wouldn't believe how many parents keep things hidden at the interview and then we find out later when the child has started that they may have special needs etc that we should have known about so we could have set the support structures in place.

Anyway I'm rambling! Good luck and although it's easier said than done, try not to be too nervous smile.gif

Actually I don't think there was anything to really worry about when hubby went to the interview at Brandon's school.

It was conducted as a group interview with plenty of other parents and they just explained the whole process, went around the circle and parents just answered when they wanted to and I think they were simply asked why it is important to them that their child attend a Catholic school.

During this time, the kids were in a separate room being assessed more or less by doing activities so they could gauge what level they were up to.

Every school is different but I don't think they are too strict about it all. Good luck.

Aww thanks Kylie for your kind words wub.gif

Thanks girls, getting a bit of an idea of what to expect now. We are having a one on one interview, but a group one would of been good. Oh well.

Need to drag out the birth cert, baptism cert, immunisation printout, they even want a passport sized photo of her. Really should start filling out the enrolment forms aswell. I think I am still in denial that she is starting big school!!

We went to Em's interview at a Catholic school yesterday. Neither G or I are catholic and the kids have been christened Uniting. He didn't actually ask anything about our faith (I guess he knew we weren't Catholic by looking at our enrolment forms), just simply told us about the religious education requirements for the school (eg. one liturgy a week etc). It was fine smile.gif

My youngest is also starting Kindy next year.

I never responded to your other post but Keira did well and he just asked her few questions, made her put a puzzle together, pulled out a few pencils and asked her what colour they were, asked her to do a drawing. He basically just wanted to see if she was ready. Then he went over a few things with me.

So in a few weeks it will be Liam's turn. A bit nervous about him as he doesnt draw pictures, just scribbles, he know all his colours, ABC and numbers up to 20 and can put puzzles together, so hopefully he will pass the test. So will see how he goes I guess. He will be one of the younger ones in the class, but he is currently taller than some of the current Kindy kids so he still looks a big boy.

Hey Claire, just wondering if Liam is getting excited about starting Kindy next year? Tegan has her first orientation morning on Thursday so that will be interesting to see how she goes.

Yeah, he is excited!!

He had is interview about a month ago and my normally loud boy went all shy. lol. He did well with everything he was asked to do though, so the principal felt he was more than ready.

We got the offer in the mail last week so just need to pay $50 and sign that and he will be officially enrolled for next year.

He will have 3 x Mondays (1 hour each) early in Term 4 for orientation, so he is looking forward to that.

He currently goes to Pre-School 2 days and Daycare 1 day a week and I think for some reason he thinks he will still be going to both of them PLUS big school laugh.gif He will know soon enough!!

Hope Tegan goes well at her orientation biggrin.gif
