Hi everyone.

I am hoping someone can offer some advice about indoor ceremony locations in Melbourne, preferably in the CBD or within 5-10 kms. Sounds fussy i know, but with many guests travelling from overseas and interstate, we want it to be easy for them to get to and from.

My fiance's family is Catholic and mine is Anglican so we thought we'd do a non-denominational or civil ceremony, however as we are getting married in Winter, we want an indoor ceremony. It seems many places don't accept ceremony-only bookings and we have already booked our reception venue. We will have approximately 100 guests.

Any advice would be more than welcome! smile.gif

I spent hours researching exactly this, but ended up getting married in the cafe/restaurant bit of our reception venue (Fenix) because it poured with rain on the day so outside wasn't an option.

St Michaels Collins St is a lovely venue - I wish I'd known they did Civil services!

The other options are kind of 'arty' or performance venues - 45 Downstairs, Chapel on Chapel, possibly the Salon at the new Melbourne Recital Centre on Sturt St. It might also be possible to book some of the smaller rooms at the Melbourne Town Hall (there's a lovely long high-ceilinged meeting room upstairs), as well as some of the other inner-city town halls (Nth Melbourne, Fitzroy, South Melbourne etc.)

You used to be able to hire the Great Hall at the National Gallery, but it'd probably be a bit pricey and big for those numbers.

The ANZ pavillion in the State Theatre is lovely, if you like lots of red and gold!

If you don't mind going out to the suburbs a little bit, I got married at Monsalvat in Eltham. It has a number of buildings you can marry in and it's beautiful

My blog I call it a humour blog because I crack myself up

Hi everyone, thank you so much for all your suggestions. I have seen Montsalvat online and thought it looked really beautiful. It's a bit further than our ideal, but might be worth it given the pictures I saw! At the moment though it looks like the Dome may be the best option. We've had a chat to the manager now and he was really helpful. It's quite beautiful inside, prices seem reasonable and it's a handy location for our guests.

Thank you all for your suggestions and all the best with your own marriages, may you all be happy and healthy smile.gif

The Dome @ 333 Collins ST is AMAZING!!!

I had my heart set on having our ceremony there... only thing is that they put up the MASSIVE christmas tree in early November and our wedding is on the 20th of November 2011, so our wedding would have this "christmas" feel...not what we wanted... sad.gif

We have setteled on having it at the Royal Botanic Gardens and I couldnt be happier! biggrin.gif

I hope it all works out for you at the Dome!
