Just a question... is it possible to get a wedding photographer for under $500?

Forgot to mention I'm in Brisbane.... thanks for all the suggestions so far, unfortunately I think they've all been for sydney.

When I got married the first time 12 years ago, you could get a good photographer for $200-300. Things sure have gone up in price.

Yes, I am sure it is but don't think you will get good photos. You will be disappointed!!!
However, I have heard that Deyan Photography is very reasonable and they do take good photos. You can just get on a disc and that helps with the cost.

TimsGirl - I think you'll be hard pressed to get a package from an experienced wedding photographer under $500 to be honest.

Alternatively, you might find a photographer who is looking to move from portraits into wedding photography - this might give you some bargaining power. Or perhaps look for some budding photographers at College/TAFE etc - again cash payment and adding your shots to their portfolio. There may be some students who have a style that really appeals to you.

Good luck smile.gif

There are many photographers that may offer packages below $500.00 or even free if they need to build their portfolio. You can find them on gumtree or etc..It is like a gamble, there are times that you may get lucky as they may be very good, but just needed a portfolio, but if you are unlucky, you may end up with nothing..I got a secondary photographer that "disappeared" without any photos for my wedding day. He said his computer crashed and etc..yeah.. and what about the rest of the memory cards, back up and etc? but glad i had the main photographer who was a commercial photographer friend who just helped out, its very different, nothing artsy or creative, just gets the job done. I regretted and should have got a professional photographer, and i am not saying all high priced pro is good as well, it depends on your taste of style, just have to do some research on their work/

Hope this helps smile.gif

I was going to suggest tafe students too, or asking a photographer how much for you to get a disk rather than a full album.

We got an excellent photographer, then we got a smaller package of photos, also purchased the copyright on all the pics, and made our own album using momento.com. perfect for us!Q

I agree with some of the other ladies though - I think the photographer is a really important part of the day.

development is a journey, not a race

i had an experienced photographer on the day who decided my wedding was a great day to test her new camera, so i ended up with magority of crap photos, a few good ones though.

I am building my portfolio and have my first wedding in sept for $50 and exchange in services (i get some photo props) and i get to use the photos in my portfolio. so if you are looking for cheaper then u could give someone who is just starting a chance but there is a risk u take with that, that they arent as experienced.

Just make sure no matter who u go with, that they are good at their job because even the most professional photographer can take crap photos. I am just starting and spend alot of spare time researching different types of shots and experimenting with settings on my camera.
