Yep!

How great is it?

I never expected being a Mum would feel this powerful. I had heard about it and thought I understood, but I really didn't. I LOVE to look at her and marvel that I grew her and made her and that she is a part of me and my husband combined. I am just sooo in love!!

Mike and I joke that were becoming those annoying parents that talk about their baby and think even their bowel movements are interesting (cos we do... ) lol!

How is your boy coming along? Did he have any complications due to being born early??

How are all the April Mummies going? There are a few of us now.

I'm totally in love with little Seth, I can't seem to take my eyes of him (he is napping next to me as I type). I just love watching all his little facial expressions.

I'm starting to settle into this whole being a mum thing, the first week was HARD but we seem to be settling into somewhat of a routine now.

I still need to sit down and write my birth story (I'll get to it eventually).

Hope everyone is going well and enjoying their new little bubba's/

Hello lovely ladies! So I believe we should all be over here now (I think we're still waiting to hear from Kaygee though?) smile.gif. I'm so glad all the lovely April bubs arrived safely (and in a speedy manner by the sounds of it).

I'm still trying to write my birth story. I've started but I keep distracted with things. It should be done by his first birthday though. tongue.gif I'm still trying to grasp how quickly the days pass by. If I can get one thing done a day, then it's a good day. Sometimes my one thing might be as simple as washing my hair though. laugh.gif My current top priority is getting these thank you cards written and sent. I'm only managing a couple a day but even the ones I've done are sitting unposted so far.

So Lucas was pretty much a perfect baby up until Easter. He was feeding pretty much on the dot of 3 hourly at first which then turned into 4 hourly (although the feeding process was taking an hour of that) but be was sleeping soundly in between each feed with no dramas which was nice and predictable. The first 3 weeks were great as DH was off work so he did the day shift and gave me a chance to catch up on sleep. Him going back to work was tougher but I still seemed to manage a fair bit of sleep. We were really lucky that my family made us lots and lots of meals (which we still haven't finished) so not having to think about food for us was great.

So everything was pretty much perfect up until Easter when it all changed. I'm not sure if it was us going away which threw Lucas out or what happened but suddenly I had a very clingy baby who did not want to be put down, fights going to sleep and who suddenly seems to have wind. There were a few nights last week where I only got about 1 or 2 hours sleep a night. Thankfully I could catch up over the weekend when DH was home. It's gotten slightly better over the past few days and I've started using wind drops at night which seems to help. But he's still fighting sleeping at night for sone reason. I haven't attempted any sort of routine and won't for a while but I'm trying to set up a few sleep cues (eg wrap, rock in dim room with soft music playing) which I think might be helping. Lady night we had 5 hours of sleep at night which was wonderful. I'm not really sure what else I can do at the moment other than hope it's a phase and it will pass.

Anyway, I hope everyone's settling in at home well and that motherhood is being kind to you all. I had a whole lot more I wanted to talk about but this little man seems to have dozed off on my chest so I'm going to try and get him into bed.

Xx

Good morning lovely mummas!! wub.gif

Marisa - those wind drops are awesome!! We're using them at the moment as I'm expressing breast milk and feeding via a bottle (for all but the 6pm feed) thanks to really BAD attachment in the first week at home - oh my lord how sore they are! I'm still a little nervous to put him on full time - taking it in baby steps though.

We had a PERFECT baby the first few nights at home ... but he's since discovered his lungs and how interesting the outside world is LOL! Can't blame him though, being stuck in utero couldn't have been the most stimulating of experiences laugh.gif

We're on a semi-flexible 4 hourly routine of around 2am, 6am, 10am, 2pm, 6pm, 10pm feeds - we've found its easier to wake him up just before he stirs for the 6pm, 10pm & 2am feeds as he drifts off back to sleep fairly quickly ... touch wood!

I'm still a little in shock over having a baby! We're also constantly marvelling at how extraordinary he is - does anyone else think they're babies face keeps changing ... or are we just losing the plot LOL!

Hrmm .. birth story ... yeah I'll be with you Marisa and have Joshua's done by his first bday LMAO!

I'm back to my pre-pregnancy weight as well which is friggen awesome!! And I totally do not miss my big old belly getting in the way!

Quick stats for us:

Joshua Aiden Kennedy - born 1.34pm
Weight: 3.8kg (8pnd 9oz)
Length: 51cm
Head Circumference: 36cm
Length of labor: approx 5hrs
Pain relief: Gas at first then nothing once he started to crown

I'll post a pic of the 3 of us once my sister emails them too me - for now here's the little man with his proud as punch dad wub.gif

Have you tried using nipple shields Rachelle? The silicone ones don't interfere with your supply and help with both attachment and sore nipples. We've been using them since about day 4 on the advice of a lactation consultant and I've never had cracked or sore nipples and dont need to use any lansinoh on them. The medela ones are the best apparently which is what i'm using. I'm also expressing and doing at least one feed a day with a bottle as it seems to be quicker and then DH can do a few on the weekends too.

Wow, I can't believe you're back to your prepregnancy weight. I'm still about 3 or 4 kgs more but I figure at least one of those is in my boobs and I quite like the other couple of extra ones as I feel like I have a more feminine figure now. If I could stay just like this but flatten the tummy a bit I'd be happy. I don't miss my belly one bit. I wasn't entirely comfortable with the whole weight gain / feeling fat thing so I'm much happier now. I only got one stretch mark, just to the right of my belly button and an inch down, which turned up a couple of days post birth. It's already fading but I quite like having one mark representing Lucas' birth. wub.gif

Gorgeous photo of Joshua. wub.gif What was his actual birth date? I'll add the stats to the first post. Same goes for everyone else please!

Hey girls, I'm glad to see everyone is going so well. Can't wait to hear from the newest April Mummies as well.

We seem to be going well here. Seth just melts my heart wub.gif

I'm still trying to get my head around how fast the days are going as well Marisa.

As I mentioned in my last post, the first week for me was incredibly hard. I really wanted to get home from the hospital as soon as possible, had talked to our midwife about this previous to the birth and it was agreed that I would leave somewhere between the 6 hour to 24 hour mark depending on the birth, unfortunately I had a third degree tear and they insisted I stay two nights (not without a lot of begging on my part to go home the next day). I ended up going home just over 48 hours after the birth with about 3 hours sleep under my belt. Thankfully DH was excellent the first night home and took over everything just bringing him in for feeds. For some reason my milk never competely came in as well so from days 1-8 we had quite an unsettled baby on our hands, he was feeding every hour practically and then would scream for more, it was devestating to watch him lose weight at every weigh in so we moved him onto formula from day 8 (combined feeding from day 8 to day 11 at which point my milk had pretty much dried up). Once we made the switch he was a completely different baby, would actually sleep in his cradle (until that point he would only sleep next to me) and go for more than an hour between feeds. I did spend a lot of time in tears the first week and when we decided to change to formula until our community nurse pointed out that there is more to motherhood than breastfeeding (sadly I don't think the midwifes were very happy).

We haven't attempted any type of routine either, he feeds anywhere between 2 hours to 5 hours and is usually pretty good at night. Most of the time DH and I manage to get a decent amount of sleep even if he wakes every three or so hours. The only sleep cue that we have is he is wrapped for his night sleeps (days sleeps he doesn't get wrapped and he still manages to get his arms out for night sleeps) and the blinds are closed. Day sleeps the blinds are open and we got in and out of the room (he is in our room) without being too quite.

I'm thinking of trying to start a night routine tonight, nothing strict but something along the lines of feed at 7:00pm (bed at 7:30pm) and then try to strech it out to every four hours from there so 11:00pm, 3:00am & 7:00am. Once he is a bit older we can work on dropping the 3:00am feed. We tend to do bath time every second day here and usually in the morning which he seems to like so I think we will continue with that.

Poor bub's has been a little bit constipated the last few days as well due to the formula so we are working on that. I put his first cloth nappy on him this morning in the hopes that would make him do a nice big poo for me to clean and it worked! plus he looked so cute in his little cloth nappy. We are working up to the whole cloth nappy thing and we have decided to start with one cloth nappy per day and the rest disposable and then work our way up (we got given so many newborn disposables that I don't want to just throw them out either).

Rachelle, I think Seth's face is changing heaps. When I look at his first photos I can't beleive how much he has changed and that was only three weeks ago! Good job on getting back to your pre pregnancy weight as well. I still have 1.5 kilos to go but I also put on 5 kilos just before I got pregnant so I need to work on that as well!

I'm not sure if I ever posted stats as well

Seth Alexander
Born - 1:25pm
Weight - 3.46 kilos
Length - 50cms
Head Circumference - 34cms
Labour - 6ish hours long drug free blink.gif

Anyways, going to try and catch up on some Masterchef while the little one has his nap...He barely slept between 8:30 and 12:30 this morning!

I meant to suggest the same thing, Seth had poor attachment to my right breat so I used the shields as well (I had the avent brand). It helped immensly, he would attach straight away and it hurt much less...Sadly he still wasn't getting enough milk but I think if we had been able to make the breastfeeding work I would have continued using the shields.

Hi ladies! Great to hear from you all!

I hear you all about bubs going through a change!! First 2 weeks she was a breeze. We were told to feed every 2 - 2.5 hrs as she was low birthweight. Except they never told us when to stop it. So I have been feeding approx 2 hourly until last week. She also started wanting up to 120ml most feeds, but started getting erratic, most likely cos she was feeding too much.

I took her to a clinic last Thursday and she said to go to 3 - 4 hourly feeds. I have been doing that, but it means a very whingy Abbey as she often starts grumbling for a feed at about 2.5 hours and I have to try to settle her til 3 hours. Sometimes she settles quickly and is fine, some days she goes 3 hours no problem.

Today she is whinging every 2 hours and is hard to settle. She is currently in my left arm, napping on and off but also wiggling, rubbing her face into my arm and sooking every now and then.

Some days she also doesn't want to sleep in her bassinet through the day. Some nights she doesn't sleep til after 12:30. but she has been going 5 hours without a feed most nights so we geta good stretch ofsleep.

Although when she is in a good mood she is so funny! Kicking and making happy sounds. She likes to sit next to me in the recliner and look round, or go on her playmat. She also LOVES her change table. I am thinking it is cos it is opposite the mirrored wardrobe. She stops crying straight away and just wiggles around on it. making happy sounds. The only problem wit htis is that she does this regardless of time, so I try not to change her middle of night unless needed cos she wakes up and won't go to sleep!!!

I think Abbey's face has changed too!

Sadly I am not back to pre pregnancy weight. Actually I am unsure which scale to trust. I weighed myself this morning and one said one weight, and another said 5 kg's heavier... i'll go by the lighter weight fow now LOL

I need to start exercising but need to find the motivation. Plus the time, with the cuddle monster being a pain atm I think I will need to wait until she seems to have a routine. I am setting up my wii fit and will star with that!

How amazing that most of us seemed to have quite quick labours!!! Lucky us! haha

Take care!

Nic, what a heartbreaking first week you had. I'm so glad things got better once Seth started getting some good food into his belly. Our system is pretty similar to yours in that we only wrap and have it quiet for night time. During the day Lucas will either sleep on the lounge, in his swing, on the coffee table (with the change mat under him), on a play mat on the floor, in his swing or on me. wub.gif We also have it nice and noisy during the day time.

I love your method in getting a poo and glad it worked for you. laugh.gif

Janna - it is hard to break the short feeds isn't it but a 5 hour sleep overnight is great. I wish Lucas would start doing that on a regular basis. ph34r.gif

I'm another that can barely see a resemblance between how he looks today and his photos when he was a newborn. They grow up so quick. sad.gif
